Well I wasn't sold on them yet because of my previous 2 experiences with them. Going into this I was a little hesitant based on those other 2 experiences, but I do like to follow the old "3 strikes" rule when it comes to new bands. So this was their 3rd pitch, and they ended up hitting a home run.

THAT was the last song in a 90 minute concert. They had THAT much energy at the end of their show after performing for 80 minutes before this. The Kami band are amazing and Hideki (the drummer) is a machine. All the Kami band have great personalities and they get their time to shine in a few songs. And you do see them crowd interact often as well. Check out more BABYMETAL. The Kami band get opening solos in a few songs. The girls.... perfection. They are true professionals and you can see they love what they do. You can hear Yui and Moa more during the entire song. They jump in more often than you think. They also are the most dynamic duo when they perform as Black BABYMETAL when Su takes a break. Then Su does her solos to allow them to take a break. The hand symbol is the Fox God. Lots of fun lore about that and how that even came to be. 🤘🦊🤘 This song/video was the third song that introduced me to the world of BABYMETAL and it made me emotional too and that sold me on these girls for life. Also, you know you are enjoying something when you didn't complain how long the video was after it was over ;)

No.. this isn't Budokan, but they have played there. In fact, up until BTS came along, they were the youngest group to ever play Budokan. And as you know, you have to be invited to play Budokan, so that is a huge honor. This arena was roughly 23000 people, but that isn't their largest. For that, they have actually played Tokyo Dome... yes, the big indoor baseball stadium. Tokyo Dome seats 55,000 people... they sold that out two nights in a row, so they've played to 110,000 people over 2 nights, with a different set list each night. Yes, Babymetal is the real deal.

This song was my entry into the Japanese rock / metal scene. I already knew X-Japan, Loudness before but only fleetingly from the 80's, I also had no idea how big these bands were. "Road of Resistance" was an absolute shock for me, it completely overturned my musical worldview. I was shaking and tears in my eyes and I couldn't believe what had just happened. A short time later, after a 20 year break from making music, it motivated me again. The return from bass to guitar this time was the best thing I've ever experienced, it's so much fun. I can only confirm your rating of 9.7. I've heard and seen the song so many times, it still impresses me. Babymetal has profoundly enriched the metal scene (and it works and belongs to heavy metal). The musicians of the Kami Band are definitely among the best musicians in Japan (R.I.P. Mikio) An extremely great reaction !!! 👍

  • @road-runner

WOW! That was not a reaction, that was a whole new experience! Thanks! Since you have already a ton of information on the comments I just wanted to point out that this was the last encore of a 95 minutes concert all performed with this level of energy. They (both the girls and the band) are totally awesome. This performance is usually described as epic for a good reason. And a final fun fact: for this music video they shortened the "WE ARE? BABYMETAL!" part to 1/4 (aprox.) of the actual length since they ran through all the parts of the stage doing it.

there's nothing more to add to your amazing reaction, you certainly are one of kind like our girls. I will add this just in case no one already told about it: The Kami Band consist of a rotating line-up set of different elite musicians, sometimes you will see the same musicians, sometimes not, they wears a burial clothes or kimono and white face paints, in the BM lore they are a chosen Fox God band sended to help our girls to bring the metal sound. \m/ Yes it is a six string bass. You better obey Su-Metal commands signs, you don't want her death glare in your nightmares. Very nice you spotted the girls singing and what's their job. The Fox God sign is something they created by accident tying to make the classical horn sign, after that the fox theme was heavily introduced as part of the lore, you can find songs like _"Megitsune"_ starting with that theme. You got it right about the "We are BabyMetal" but also they said this letting know the fans as a way to feel part of them, they (us) belong to BabyMetal. Btw BM fandom got an official name, we are "The One", and they even did a song for us, of course, it is called _The One_

Buenas tardes. Dragon Force and Babymetal's relationship is worth telling. When the girls (they were 16-15 years old at the time) participated in the 2014 Sonisphere, when even in the West they were practically unknown among the majority of Western metalheads (they began to work on KZread with Gimme chocolate) they played before about 60,000 and triumphed. But not everyone in the metal world accepted them. The Donwload promoter said they were fine with the existence of Babymetal, but their festival was not a place for them. When Dragon Force found out about this, they were already at the festival and decided to bring them into their show, taking them out on stage and playing Gimme Chocolate with them, I think I remember. The producer's face must have been a poem ... the following year, it must be said, they were already at the festival officially.

More than that. Babymetal was scheduled to play a smaller stage, while at the same time a big band either canceled on them or pulled out.. so Dragonforce got them moved to the main stage, where there were the classic metal heads who were the die hard Iron Maiden, Big 4, typical fans that would let you know if you sucked. And the band was scared as hell before playing. By the time they finished their set, those die hard classic metal heads were screaming “we want more!” “One more song!”, and rushed out to buy up all of Babymetal’s merch. That was Sonisphere, in 2014. If David reacts to Ijime, Dame, Zettai (No Bullying Forever), he’ll see that crowd and how they reacted.

@@athlonen, you are conflating two different stories and an urban myth. For Sonisphere 2014 Babymetal was originally booked for a smaller stage. But because of the hype surrounding them online they were moved to the main stage by the festival. No Dragonforce involvement. Months ahead of the festival. It was Download 2015 where the promoter would not book them. Dragonforce did have a booking and invited Babymetal to join them during their set. I don't know why I get teary-eyed at that scene, just like you. In my own way, I tried to think of the reason. No matter how strong we try to be, sometimes we are lonely. In that scene, we are suddenly confronted with that. But when the "support" of the performance was removed, and I sang in chorus with everyone, I suddenly felt as if my loneliness was healed. That's why I was so moved. Isn't that right? From a fan in Japan.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏴 🏴 🏴 "Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance) - David Heretic: "You know how I feel about long videos." (posts a 55 minute long reaction) : ) As you saw, this was pretty much a master class in audience control. Su had just turned 17 a couple of weeks before this January 10th, 2015 concert. Yui and Moa were 15. Su is about a year-and-a-half older than the other two. BABYMETAL believe that if a song sounds too much like one genre, then it's not a BABYMETAL song. You can definitely feel the speed metal component in this one though. DragonForce members Herman Li and Sam Totman contributed guitar tracks for the studio version. This performance was at Saitama Super Arena (SSA) with a sold out crowd of over 20,000. Su first appeared at SSA in 2008 as a member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's, when she was 10 years old. She's been back many times since, headlining with BABYMETAL, as well as opening for 'Guns 'n' Roses a few years ago. Guitarists for this show were Leda Cygnus (black guitar) and Takayoshi Ohmura (with "Pink-chan", one of his ESP Snapper 7 signature guitars). BOH was on bass, playing his six-stringed Atelier-Z BOH custom. The drummer was Hideki Aoyama. Hideki's father and brother were also drummers, so it's kind of in his blood. The other current Kami Band drummer, Anthony Barone, is phenomenal as well. He used to play with Shadow of Intent.

Not that the girls would ever do that. Great reaction and technical analysis. You'll find that outside of their Babymetal characters, the girls are the sweetest and humblest performers you will find. The crowd follows them not because Su-metal controls them, they follow her because they love all three girls. And you may know it by now, but Su-metal was about 17 here, and the other two were about 15. And yes, it was a pretty big crowd. 22,000 I believe at the Saitama Super Arena.

@@johnschultz7765 I think I've actually seen that reaction a year ago. I think many have to watch some of the early Sakura Gakuin videos to see how to girls were like when Babymetal first started as the subgroup. You don't learn too much about their personalities from just watching Babymetal interviews or performances because they are still in character. And it's very very rare to see them NOT their Babymetal characters now ever since they graduated from SG. I've told many people this, that I miss Su-chan, Yui-chan, and Moa-chan. But in the absence of any news about them in the wild, BM is the only thing we'll get. And I am secure enough to say that Babymetal is my all time favorite band, and I have immense respect and admiration for the girls who work so very hard to make each performance perfect, even through injuries. And the heartwarming tears they sometimes display (out of character) in performances do tell how appreciative they are to The One who have supported them for so long. I'll bet at least half were Fukei from SG. And like the other girls in SG, I also have the same respect and admiration for all of them too.

Many people, even professional ones, are quick to disregard them because of their image, not realizing how legitimately awesome the musicality is. You should love hearing Rondo of Nightmare for some unconventional arrangement and style mashed into a really dark but beautiful ballad. And since you love crowd work, would be interesting for you to see Karate live at Download 2016 to see how they work an unfamiliar crowd, in a not ideal situation (festival, heavy rains, stage drenched and flooded).

Great & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。I am surprised at me myself watching 1 hour-long reaction video 😄 . You saw Su shout some words at 35:17. It means "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at metal elitists who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. Now in 2021 BABYMETAL restarted their activities taking strict countermeasures against infection here in Tokyo and completed 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN concerts on April 15. On the last day (Day-10) Su shouted the same words in the grand finale for the first time in several years. She did it smilingly with mild and friendly voice. It must be addressed to the audience meaning "come on!". I was there with tears for joy 😢。 Talking about the crowd involvement, American audience did good job in any of 20 shows during 2019 US Tour. For example, 17,500 American audiences did the same chanting (even much longer one) at the Forum, LA on Oct. 11, 2019.

Nobody strikes a hero pose like Babymetal. Approx 20,000 in that crowd by the way. They also sold out the Tokyo dome with a capacity of 55,000 for two consecutive nights. Another thing to remember about Babymetal is they have been making music for 10 years. To use a Beatles analogy, think of the difference between “I want to hold you hand” and “day in the life”. Wait till you hear some of the stuff from their third album, Metal Galaxy.

You'd be hard pressed to find a group that puts as much effort and energy into their live shows as Babymetal does. That ending section with the "WE ARE!"..."BABYMETAL!" is a thing at all of their shows. In fact, the actual ending at this show was much longer. There were two other bridges to the left and right that went out into the crowd and they visited each of them and did the call and response. It was trimmed down for this video. The largest stage setup they've ever used was for their Tokyo Dome shows in 2016. They packed in 55,000 people each of the two nights they played there, and the stage was a multi-story, centrally located setup. In addition to the stage setup, every member of the audience was given a neck brace that had remotely controlled lights in them that were turned on and off for different sections of songs. To see a sea of 55,000 lights come on out of the dark was incredible, and even Su-metal was taken by surprise during one of their songs.

This was performed on January 10, 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena in Chuuou-ku, Saitama, Saitama, Japan. The arena's spectator capacity is 36,500, with the main arena's capacity being between 19,000 and 22,500. It is the fourth-largest indoor arena in the world. As for how "big" BABYMETAL is? That's a long explanation. But in short, they got their start as a sub-unit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin and quickly branched off into their own band as Babymetal in 2010 (when Suzuka was 12-years-old and Moa and Yui were only 10-years-old). Their early indie success led to them getting a major record deal in January 2013 after having debuted live as Babymetal the previous August at Summer Sonic 2012. And from there, they basically just kept getting bigger. On March 1st and 2nd, 2014, Babymetal would perform at Budokan, becoming the youngest to ever female act to perform there. And then they began their first world tour. Yui left the band in October 2018 (after being absent from performances for the year prior). Also, this song 'Road of Resistance' was co-made with DragonForce's guitarists, Herman Li and Sam Totman. They've even performed it live together a couple times. Edit: And your comments on Suzuka/Su-Metal's control over the audience perfectly proves how massive of a stage presence she has always had.

The reason why they had the band with the actors is because they (Babymetal) could not afford to hire studio musicians to go on tour when they were first starting out. It wasn't in the budget. So they had to hire cheap actors to pretend to play. The Kami band came along once Babymetal got bigger and could afford to hire QUALITY session musicians to tour the world with them. They have two sets of Kami bands, the East and the West. Pretty self-explanitory. But there is a song called Rondo Of Nightmare (with Mischief of Gods intro) where each member has a solo to begin the song. It is also one of Su-Metal's solo songs, where the other girls take a breather. It's good stuff man!

Damn, that was satisfying to see after your previous BABYMETAL reactions. I didn't expect them to hit you that hard. Awesome reaction! All the things you mentioned when talking about sensory overload combine to why I think they is the most complete package of entertainment in existence. There are many good bands, but their shows are so much more than just music. I'm glad that you acknowledged that the choreography does indeed add to the entertainment value. It's like a catalyst to the transfer of the energy from the band to the crowd. There are probably still many songs of theirs that are not in your ballpark, but I'm glad we took this hurdle. I'm pretty sure that you'd like "Rondo of Nightmare" as well, especially the version with the instrumental intro called "Mischief of the Metal Gods". You'll see more of the six string bass (and all of the other instruments), and the vocals are great as well. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aot2psuFfbHAk6g.html The handsign resembles a fox, "kitsune" in Japanese (if you listen closely, you can hear Su yell "put your kitsune up" at the very end). There's a whole bunch of lore behind the band, and at the top of it all is the Fox God, who had sent them to earth to unite the world in Metal. The sign actually evolved by accident, as back in the early days, the girls misinterpreted the Metal Horns sign. I'm not sure whether the Fox God lore was already in place at that point, or whether it was inspired by this. Perhaps other fans can educate me here. But it's a cute story, and I think it's very cool to have a unique symbol to ourselves. And it fits the concept of Metal mixed with cuteness perfectly.

Foxes are an important element of the Shinto religion and the wider Japanese culture and society. They adorn and protect many entrances at Temples across Japan. In Shintoism, Foxes can be shapeshifters, mischievous and indeed, can be gods. The 'Kami' in the Kami Band is also linked to Shintoism. Kami covers a wide range of figures in Japan from ghost-like beings through to devils and demons. Kami can have connotations of destiny as well. During the Second World War, Japanese planes loaded with explosives would deliberately crash into targets (mostly American ships) in a suicide mission for the pilots. These were called Kamikaze (translates as Destiny Wind). So, to answer your question, the Kitsune hand sign was a misunderstanding of the Devil's Horns hand sign. The girls were quickly corrected but they thought the Kitsune sign was cuter so they stuck with that and incorporated that into their onstage persona. It is, as you have said, Kawaii Metal after all. The Kitsune sign also helps tie them to their cultural roots.

@@lencooke944 Kitsune (or Foxes in japanese) are not actually "god" in japanese mythology, it is BabyMetal who made it reach the god status, they're indeed important in japanese culture and society. According to mythology or folklore (i know is not the same) they serves as a messengers of *Inari Okami* god (or goddess, can be both) of foxes, rice, fertility, agriculture and more. Kitsune have supernatural powers or abilities like you mentioned and such, they're a type of "yokai" or spirit (but not like a ghost) , there are too types of ktisune, to resume, the good ones and the bad ones, but also they gain more power depending on the amount of tails, the nine-tail is the more powerful (we know him from Naruto, most of us :P ) As far as i remember Kami, is not related to "destiny", is the japanese word for a god, deity, divinity or related to force nature, in that sense Kami-kaze means "divine wind". @@jakemuller8626 Thanks for the explanation Jake. Us Gaijin lack the understanding on nuance in the Japanese language. In English, while the meaning has slight differences, 'spirits' and 'ghosts' are pretty much interchangeable. I take your point about kitsune not being 'God', but messengers of a god. This is known, but sometimes I will compress information in an effort to keep it short. My apologies, it that caused any offense. And, you are 100% correct about the connotation of destiny and Kami. And then if you watch their "Distortion" performance at Download 2018 you can see how she can also command crowds at festivals :D

@@Inosuke_Hashibira75 Are you a knowledgeable fan by any chance? Can you explain a couple of things to me? The hand symbol they do, that looks a bit like the horns, what does it mean? I've seen people talk about a fox god, and The One. What do these terms mean? Is their any kind of fictional persona these girls have, or any kind of lore or story connected to their music? I've seen many musicians that do stuff like that. Edit: One month later and I've heard every one of their songs dozens of times, own $350 worth of merch (so far), and I'm very knowledgeable about all their lore, story, and history. It is ridiculously easy to fall down the foxhole! 🤘🦊🤘❤ Edit: 7 months later, up to $1,500+ on the merch collection, and still listening to them every single day. BABYMETAL is a drug. 🤘🦊🤘

Another reactor stated that they were impressed that at her age (and still being young in her career at this time) that she knew to reel the crowd back in to rhythm on the chant. Also if you want something from the other two, check sis anger.

I have never considered what the artist can really feel at that moment. I listen with emotion to what you have told us and I think ... these girls were only 17 years old Su and 15 or 16 Moa and Yui ... How would they feel, with the difficulty of being so young to manage those strong emotions?

Ohh, boy a 55 minute video ! Time to sit down for that one... 16:00 Yes, Babymetal is the visual and audio assault to the senses, but you forgot the fans: "I counted 23 circle pits" - western music/metal journalist Stephen Hill Metal from Hammer magazine on the That's Not Metal Podcast who was at this show as a reporter. The girls were 15, 15 and 17 at the time, this song wasn't released yet, this was the 3rd live performance of the song. This was at Feb. 2015, 2014 was their first world tour. She turned 17 in Dec. 2014. 36:19 her yell is that's actually not on the album, that's just her. But as you noticed, Babymetal live is all about emotion ! The "we are Babymetal" is actually a nod to X-Japan, which also did/does that. Their were actually 3 runways and at least the middle one, if not all 3, came down from the ceiling like a bridge. The show started with them coming down in coffins actually... which is a great thing in itself :-) Rondo with Kami intro would be a good next video to react to.

A couple of answers, they do the fox sign instead of the horns, Babymetal created alot of lore surrounding the fox god, which is a deity in japanese folklore. Yui and Moa are scream and dance, which is to say crowd control and interaction, but they also have their own songs to sing and dance to, and that is called Black Babymetal, 4 songs whilst Su takes a breather. Headbanger at Budokan is a must and Rondo of Nightmare with mischief of god intro, of course Babymetal Death Legend 1997 the year Su was born.

BabyMetal makes us all emotional. :p 🤘🦊🤘 One of Yui and Moa's most important jobs is to direct the crowd. Yeah, they sing and dance, but their real role is to connect with the audience and guide them through the interaction. They are like intermediaries. Priestesses of the Goddess Su. The crowd most definitely has their own choreo, and not only does Su command, Yui and Moa demonstrate. When they jump, you jump. When they pump their fist, you pump your fist. When they say they can't hear you, you call back louder. They are the cheerleaders and their part in the performance is so much more than just backing vocals or visual interest. And yes, they are impressive performers. Always in sync. If you watch the Headbanger Legend 1997 video, you'll see them leading the crowd and generally being badass. You're going to enjoy the Kami Band intros on other songs, too. They really showcase the players' abilities.

You kind of hit the nail on the head with what you said at the end about Yui and Moa leading the crowd response - that's actually a thing with a name in idol music: ai no te. It's what "scream and dance" refers to; Yui and Moa don't growl or do pig squeals or whatever, they shout to the crowd and hype them up, usually as part of a song. You heard it a little bit in this during the first pre-chorus, and you'll hear it more in other songs of theirs such as Headbanger and Catch Me If You Can. Speaking of, I would definitely recommend either Headbanger live at Legend 1997 or Rondo of Nightmare live at Budokan Black Night for your next reaction. Both of them are great performances, and both of them are copyright-safe, so you don't _need_ to pause so much (though you certainly still could if you wanted). If you do Rondo, make sure you get one of the 7-minute videos; there are some uploads out there that cut out part of the performance, unfortunately.
