This is another BM fans favorite song and is already a classic one they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist when performing live such recently at FOX_ FEST Festival last weekend when they even opened up the festival with a exclusive remix version and dance called "Akago Kinzoku" dancing with a hand-fan. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal) and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀 This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want. So for you looked it up: lyrics of Megitsune by: Norikazu Nakayama aka NORiMETAL and Miki Watanabe ( 渡辺未来 ) aka MK-METAL source: Discogs I was reading the Wikipedia page of Gimme Chocolate, not much there, but I realized something, the videos with the highest rising views are: Gimme Choco MV and the recent collab MV with Electric Callboy Ratatata, both have gun onomatopoeias.

Nice reaction. Many say to react to live Babymetal. But to me their music videos have there own value. Maybe watch both. They don't have music videos for all their songs in this style. Mostly they're live performances with maybe the recording played over it. They do have concerts on blue ray. That are Amazing. This song is very cool and while playing heavy metal get to mix in many Japanese sounds and cultural references. Rather cool. To see how Babymetal like to move on from the past and yet never forget it. Watch this music video and then watch the music video for Metal!. It's them young first and then them today. So many similarities and yet different. And that's Babymetal. They do music that is similar and familiar but different. And they make it work. That part is Babymetal magic. On paper or just reading it. Mentally most would say this isn't going to work. Even the entertainment company they work for didn't think so when they started. Babymetal won them over by going out there and building a fan base. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises

Megitsune is still performed during live performances. It is a very difficult song to sing, and SU-METAL said that the feel of singing this song during rehearsal will tell you how you are doing that day. Please check out the video of the live performance! Basically, BM's lyrics are often consistent with their age. Since Japan is a high context culture, it is said that the true meaning of a sentence cannot be understood without interpreting the meaning between sentences. I can't explain it well because Japanese people are brought up only in this culture, so I don't know what they don't understand, but please try to read the lyrics, imagining why these words were uttered. As for the Megitsune, I am sure you have figured out what it means, but it is a song about a maiden's heart at their age. In Japan, foxes, snakes, and cats are believed to possess very high psychic abilities. The fox is 妖怪(yo-u-ka-i=specter), a messenger of God, and a God. Most Japanese are afraid of foxes. Great reaction again ... and you're right, same as one or two others in the comments, I have my paragraph(s) ready for you.🤓 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, I have no idea on the difference) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video🦊) which, as you were aware, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional subservient female role in Japanese society (notice right at the start when Yui and Moa unravel Su from her restrictive traditional clothing), saying that is changing I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive kitsune (foxes), they are maiden-like megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe. You asked had they changed Su's voice early on ... in the studio recordings they tended (more in the first two albums) to compress and over-produce the vocals - it is one of the main reasons we recommend live versions for most of the songs over the official videos (even though they are all good and should be seen as well) because the live vocals just sound so much batter - as do the Kami Band's live instrumentals. Talking of live performances, 'Megitsune' live at PIA Arena, Clear Night is so good if you want to do a reaction to a live version.

One of their very best MVs. Great reaction. There are many layers to this MV. I like it because it gives more insight into their message. I also learn so much from the comments from the fan base: for instance, one pointed out how at the beginning YUI and MOA pull on SU’s Japanese costume and the next scene she is transformed into SU-METAL. 🦊 🖖❤

Great reaction, thanks! Yes, I have my paragraph ready. 😁 "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 341 times... and counting! (not counting here the recent "teckno" version). It was released in June 2013. Su-metal was 15 years old while Yuimetal and Moametal were both 13 (about to turn 14) back then. The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown. That breakdown hits hard and (apart of those pig squeals) the melody is from a well known Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms). The word "Megitsune" = "me" + "kitsune" which means female + fox so, vixen. Hence the "kitsune" masks everywhere. In Japanese folklore, the "kitsune" is an entity able to transfigure into a human form (mainly into a young lady form) with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So they sing that they aren't "kitsunes" but "megitsunes", "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes", as the lyrics say. It's basically a women empowerment song. BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. So, you can tell this song is important! It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is one of their best songs (if not the best). In my opinion, this music video is a masterpiece. And about its locations: - The stage where they are performing (not a set) is called Nohgakudo (Noh theater) at Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage used for playing music and performing dances during marsuri (festivals). - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the famous Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. The girls were so happy that the director traveled to Kyoto just to film that sequence. I love the hugely over the top bad guys and poor Sanosuke getting the umm stuff kicked out of him every fight. Waiting for the 4th to be released on Bluray hopefully Steelbook to match the others.

Megitsune is still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. Su has mentioned that this is one of her favorite songs, even though it's a difficult one for her to sing live. She hopes to sing it perfectly some day. : ) The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. Megitsune has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song, and frequently comes in at, or near the top in fan polls for favorite song.
