I agree with both @Hgoenge81 and @BlackArr0w on this. I will add that there are DEFINITELY some Babymetal MVs that are iconic and this is one of them. I would add Megitsune, Headbangerrrr, and now Ratatata to this list, among a few select others. They are historical on their own right and actually add to the lore and frequently the understanding of the material. So, of course, watch the Live versions, they are always superior, particularly with how they interact with their fans, but no need to skip ALL of the Music Videos.

Great reaction, and welcome back to the Fox hole! 😄 "Karate" is an exceptional song in their portfolio. The MV is outstanding, super well produced, as is the audio. Most of the time they overdid compression etc. on the Delo (CD 😉, you might get what "Delo" means if you dive deep into BM´s history), but not for "Karate". You could blast it in your car, and it sounds super clean, and HEAVY 🤣 Nonetheless, you should do one of the live versions some time in the future. Most recommended is - "Karate, Download Festival 2016", which is also called "Karate at the DRownload Festival" because of the heavy rain during their performance. But the place was PACKED despite the heavy rainfall! And their producer mopped the stage before the ladies entered the stage 😉 This performance is a vital part of BM´s history. They did it at DL 2018, too, and they did it very recently, at the DL 2024! If you want to see, what BM is like in a more "mature" state, try the latest. - "Monochrome live at the PIA Arena MM, Yokohama 2023" is a song from their concept album "The Other One", and the performance is a highlight 😉 - "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL)" from 2015 is their flagship live performance of their early years. You´ll witness three stage generals of the age of 17, 15 and 15 at work. A sight to behold! And you´ll listen to one of the finest female vocalists of our time. It´s on the BM official channel. You could do a more recent performance of this song, "Road of Resistance live at Pia Arena MM, Yokohama 2023", too. There you´ll see less of stage generals, but more of "The One". This is what BM call the fans, but also the whole of a performance. The Japanese crowd is even more awesome in this! The "For The Fox God" channel has reactable videos of the Yokohama performances.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 👻 👻 👻 Funny that you mentioned Korn and Slipknot. One of the first times I saw BABYMETAL was when they were opening for Korn and Stone Sour on the 2017 Serenity Of Summer tour. This song made them a lot of friends on the metal festival circuit. Both the heavy riffs, and surprisingly, also the choreography. : )

I agree... usually their LIVE is best. Some ask why? Here is the general flow: A new sng is created so the audio or sometimes audio plus studio version comes out. (Fans want to get a piece of any new material). Then they perform this live, so that is why live comes later in the game. For example, "Leave it All Behind" has not yet been performed live by ALL members yet (there are live versions WITHOUT BM but not by all) so you should check out their MV, then get blown away again when they perform this live, I understand will be in Thailand this summer.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

I think Japan just loves music. When I was in Kyoto I found a bar for every kind of music. There are blues bars, jazz bars, even a bar playing gospel music!!! An actual bar for gospel music?! I don't think you'll find that anywhere else in the world 🤩 I have so much love for Japan and Japanese music, and Japan has so much love for all kinds of music and for the world, I think. Japan is the world's charm point 😂🥰 I saw a really good Jazz band playing in one of the western-style bars in Kyoto. Really amazing, and the coolest drummer I've ever seen. Jazz is great in Japan. I am an amature trumpeter / flugelhornist to play J-funk music. It is a minor genre for very limited fans. But there are still many places where we can play sometimes with professional musicians.

If you like change ups in you music you will love Babymetal, every songs structure will keep you guessing what's going to happen next and all their songs are very different from each other. Most people will suggest to watch Babymetal live because that's where they really shine, they are one of the most polished groups in music today, the production on their live shows in Japan is second to none from the girls performance to the Kami band to the the visual production and the audio quality is better than the studio versions.

This is one of the few MV that really worth to watch for the first time and understanding the meaning of the song a little bit, with that being said always remember that live performance is when they really shine, except for certain MV such Megitsune, Doki Doki Morning, Iine! Those are better to experience with the official MV first. "Karate" is one of their stronger weapons along with "Road Of Resistance" from 2nd album "Metal Resistance" released in 2016. It's an uplifting song about keep fighting besides the obstacles no matter what, and if you take a closer look at the end you'll see in the eyes of their rivals that they're fighting against no other than themselves. Some fans also find anime vibes on BabyMetal songs, the only other song I could find with anime vibes besides this one and "Divine Attack - Shingeki", is "Syncopation" another banger. They watched several footage before making this song, one of those were "Karate Kid" old movie, that's why you see MoaMetal catching a bug, that's a reference to the movie, after this she became the bug catcher expert when traveling on live tour lol. The bats and the concrete blocks testing strength is another infamous Karate reference. Btw just in case, the band playing behind in this MV are hired actors, they got their own set of musicians when performing live called Kami Band, they're not always the same musicians but currently this year they've been playing with a western band unlike early era after 2012 when they had a Japanese band. You can enjoy the live version with the blaster sound of the East Kami Band watching Download Festival 2016 among many others but this one is safe to react. During the recent Europe Tour, already finished, they played this at different festivals including Rock Am Ring and Pinkpop among others and they did it like never before plus new super cool outfits or battle dresses, it was really beautiful and there are proshot clips around but so far Pinkpop is the only one safe from this year, but remember Download Festival 2016 is your best bet not getting risk of being blocked. Also another cool version to watch and meet the new Metalverse subgroup is Karate live at PIA Arena MM 2023, they got their own songs but you can start with this introduction. Just remember to enjoy early era and classic songs such Megitsune and Road Of Resistance with live performance before 2017, although like I said Megitsune official MV is one of the very few MV that really worth it for first time reaction, after that you can go with any other live version including recent live versions from 2023/2024, it's just the best way to experience and enjoy BM evolution, trust me.😉

This is one of Babymetal's best music videos, but Babymetal is all about the live experience. They shine brightest when they are performing in front of a live audience. I had somehow never heard of Alter Bridge before watching this video, and I think you may have just changed my life a little. Or at the very least improved it vastly. Thanks for the reaction. You're just scratching the surface of BabyMetal and I think you're going to like what you find. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to listen to Blackbird on repeat. XD 🤘🦊🤘

BM has such a deep back catalogue nowadays that they are starting to drop previous essentials (like 2016's Karate, until they revived it for this year's tour) as well as older favorites (like 2012's Headbanger) from their live setlists. Former zeitgeist-defining hits (like 2011's Doki Doki Morning, 2012's Iine, 2013's Ijime Dame Zettai, 2014's Catch Me If You Can), as well as the entire Black Babymetal repertoire, were already shelved/retired between 2016 & 2018. Except for the 10th anniversary gigs in 2021, they would revisit these only as an occasional live bonus, mainly for nostalgia's sake. Understandable when their newer material have become such crowd-pleasers (2019's Distortion, 2023's Metali, 2024's Ratatata), or are representative of the grown-up BM with the Americanized Kamis (2020's BxMxC, 2022's Monochrome). After all, BM can play only 5-7 songs at music festivals & 10-13 songs at their own headliners. So there's currently no room to purposely milk other collab songs (2024's Leave It All Behind, 2020's Kingslayer, 2019's Brand New Day). Have fun exploring the foxhole. You'll see BM changing metal subgenres literally from song to song, never cashing in on the same formula even when they have a hit. Be more adventurous lol if you wanna showcase your own musical knowledge too: try analyzing more polarizing material like Oh Majinai, Shanti Shanti Shanti, Da Da Da, Night Night Burn, The End, or 2023's The Other One album (sans Monochrome) where their unconventional experimentation &/or multigenre fusion still welcome more insights.

I think Slipknot, or at least Corey Taylor the front man of slipknot is friendly with Babymetal. He's mentioned in an interview that his son got him into Babymetal and also had a very brief cameo of them in his CMFT song kzread.info/dash/bejne/dHmEq5hyk9uYYqg.html

Do check out a live performance or two! Their Japanese shows go absolutely crazy.

Karate is awesome! It's hard to find a better combination of heavy music and a radio-friendly chorus.

They toured the US with Korn. They have a cameo in Corey Taylor's "CMFT" (along with a lot of other metal artists). Rob Zombie did an epic defense of them on Twitter against metalhead gatekeepers. They have also opened for Lady Gaga. They do what they do extremely well and their team has a reputation of being very competent, professional, and nice. They helped open the door for other Japanese rock and metal bands to tour the US and Europe. One of the recent festivals in Europe had I think 5 Japanese bands with Babymetal being the most prominent billing.

I am a Maggot, Slipknot has been my favorite band since Iowa, I also have been following Korn since almost the start. I totally enjoy Lamb of God. AND,!! BabyMetal is on my list over favorite bands. Welcome back, great reaction - and the next BABYMETAL song you listen to will be different again. 'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - that was a very important thing for them as well. As with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards. The figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that). They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time .... and she let it go. We all know Moa wouldn't hurt a fly. This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards". If you fancy a live performance, a spectacular one with all the lights, staging etc for you to watch would be from Budokan 2021 or you could watch them at a festival with no special effects etc performing in the English rain at Download 2016.

That thing at 4:32 is called pinch picking, it's a technique to make these high pitched sound from the guitar. Not very difficult but it takes a lot of practice to perform that on the stage reliably.

To be fair, the musicians are almost always the same and they are very important. There are two sets of the Kami Band known as Eastern and Western Kami Band formed by Japanese and American musicians respectively: The Western set is formed by: Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio (guitars), Clint Tustin / Ryan Neff (bass) and Anthony Barone (drums). They play with BABYMETAL since 2019 and only the bassist has changed for some legs of their tours, all during the last year. The latest Eastern set includes: Takayoshi Ohmura, Isao Fujita (guitars), BOH (bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums). They performed for the last time with BABYMETAL in January 2023.

@road-runner but from what we ve seen with Kingslayer, Bodyslam, Electric Callboy.. all amazing songs the ladies shine on. They don't need the Kami band or any single same band backing them. Their next album could have 20 songs all with all different bands behind each song and it would be the girls aka Babymetal making it all amazing. So yea my point is we come here for metal goddesses before anything else as they're the ones that make it special

@@jhorse6968 Yes, and they were already BABYMETAL before the first set of the Kami Band joined them in 2012. But having a live band like that is what allows them to perform basically everywhere and being respected as a "metal band" (and that's important in the metal scene). Of course, their charisma is out of the charts and I always say that I got interested because of their music, stayed because of Suzuka's vocals but I became a die-hard fan because of the whole concept they put on stage. So, for me, the band has to be there and get the credit they deserve.

@road-runner but they don't have to be there proven by the past year. Kingslayer, no kami band, AMAZING song. Leave it all Behind, no kami band, AMAZING song. Ratatata, no kami band, AMAZING song. Who cares if hardcore metal bands accept them? They've never been a fan of them anyways even with the Kami Band. They've proven it doesn't matter if the Kami band is behind them this past year. They fucking rock no matter who's behind them because they themselves are special. Even in the beginning they proved they were amazing without Kami band with Doki Doki Morning, iine!, gimme Chocolate, etc

Babymetal played Toronto, ON in September 2023. I missed them. There are soo many different genres they blend into their metal. Their song YAVA! has a ska vibe, BxMxC is rap, PaPaYa is just high energy. Monochrome is a great song but I actually prefer Monochrome the First Take piano version, which gives you a real sense of Su-metals vocals. A few others I've really been feeling lately is Shanti Shanti Shanti, Awadama Fever (has two step drum and bass mix), Metalizm and Metali. Su-metal, the lead vocalists also has a few solo songs; Akatsuki, Rondo of Nightmare and No Rain No Rainbow. As someone has stated below, they have about 70 songs from 4 studio albums. BABYMETAL self titled first album, Metal Resistance, Metal Galaxy and The Other One. I like pretty much every song. Lastly, I prefer their live versions over their official music videos. Babymetal live shows in Japan are absolutely amazing to witness. I wish they would play an arena in Toronto and put on a show like they do back in Japan.

@@cudahitz I whole-heartedly agree that going with live shows is the way to go... I think they are similar to Iron Maiden, Dio and Judas Priest in that the recorded track is just the baseline that establishes the song, but it is in the live performances that they find their true expression. Listen to Priest's Sinner in the Sin after Sin album vs their live version in Unleashed in the East as an example of this. That said, the ARE some Babymetal MV's that are iconic and add to the lore and understanding, like this one, so you did well choosing this one. Others might be Megitsune and ヘドバンギャー！！ (Headbanger) but, in the end, Babymetal was constructed for live shows, so definitely hit those when possible, if you want to follow this further, as it sounds like you do. Good reaction but you've yet to see them LIVE - and they are a live specialised group - MVs and "official" videos will invariably be studio sound (also no intros or fans). The “I was not expecting this” and “WTF did I just watch” are the typical reactions among first-time BABYMETAL viewers. A lot of their songs tend to get that - even after you watch a few of them! Anyway . . . . You’ve opened a can of worms! Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer. BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums with over fifty songs, and have been on a number of world tours. as to the BPM .... it goes back and forth between 90 and 180. in my opinion , the best "contrast" you talked about is on their collab with Bring Me the Horizon on the song _Kingslayer_ (official live version is a must)

Good reaction, but try not to compare to other bands, ( Yes that is your background knowledge; I have none of all the bands you named) but Babymetal does not just do one genre. Collaborations are nice but do not reflect Babymetal's style, you have to see them by themselves, live, then stop comparisons, see them as they are. (Otherwise it's not a reaction video, it's a comparison video, of what you like/don't like/understand). Also watch the entire video (action, lyrics if you can find them) just analyzing the music is good but there is so much that you missed out. Road of Resistance Live is a good one. Keep learning and enjoy.
