He really helped me to overcome my fear of speaking wrong english in front of others who can speak it very well. I'm glad he can represent everyone in the same situation, and good for you overcoming your fear :) I believe most people may be better than they think, but are afraid of sounding stupid and being judged. it's so funny to see eurovision fans finding out about ralli-english. it's a thing. and it has a very simple explanation, finnish is always pronounced exactly how you spell it, meanwhile english is not. therefore, finns speaking english have trouble pronouncing english words "properly" cuz it goes against our natural instincs of how words should be pronounced. and yes, käärijä is very cute and i am very proud of him for trying his best at english even tho he knows he's not the best at it.
@raapyna8544
Жыл бұрын
I speak excellent English but somehow I'm proud when we send people who don't speak English much at all like Patrik Laine and Käärijä to represent us abroad. It feels good, like how Japanese and French people don't need to speak English. It feels like a privilege to only need to speak your own language while being a world champion in something. Finnish rally drivers are famously bad at English and it's an example of this too, although they actually often speak very good English, just the pronounciation is very Finnish. I also know many university researchers whose pronounciation is horrible... I almost feel proud of it. They're still excellent in their field and speak professional academic English, just with very Finnish accent. I almost feel like a simp for speaking English so good.
@juniperp8650
Жыл бұрын
I am not sure if this is the case. I mean if the reason behind the difficulty is that finnish is pronounced exactly how you spell it. Greeks also pronounce words the way they are spelled but they don't do the same mistakes. However, they have one of the worst accents when speaking English. Finnish accent in english is so cute

Does it also have something to do with English stress patterns? As a native English speaker there are some words that I've known all my life and still if you asked me to say them out loud I'd stumble over which syllables to stress. "its crazy, its party" words of wisdom
it's so funny to see eurovision fans finding out about ralli-english. it's a thing. and it has a very simple explanation, finnish is always pronounced exactly how you spell it, meanwhile english is not. therefore, finns speaking english have trouble pronouncing english words "properly" cuz it goes against our natural instincs of how words should be pronounced. and yes, käärijä is very cute and i am very proud of him for trying his best at english even tho he knows he's not the best at it.
@raapyna8544

@juniperp8650
