    Regarding your flies, why not plant a trumpet pitcher plant in your Paludarium set-up? Should do fine there. May be more effective for the flies too.

    Great idea. Those sticky paper strips are awful. Reminds me of my grandparents home in summer time as a kid and I'd see dead and semi alive wriggling insect bodies stuck to them and sometimes for days. Gross. 🤢🤮 Apart from that everything else is looking great.❤🙂

    So happy you decided to go with the Apistogrammas!!! I've got Pencfish and Hatchetfish with my Apistogramma's in a planted 75 gallon. The Pencilfish and Hatchetfish are both natural dither fish for the Apistogramma's. I have 3 pair all being different species. Cacatuoides, Hongsloi, and Viejita. I also have a pair of Agassizi on order right now to add to the mix. I can't wait to see what your setup looks like!!

    Timmeh is just too friggin CUTE! A brilliant choice to change it up so he will be more comfortable & happy. I'm so excited about the cichlid tank! Be careful stocking too many males because they can become very territorial. With some kinds of cichlid they will develop a male and female pair that is dominant and just kind of keep the others from breeding.. with other breeds, which are more territorial, you can wake up to a bloodbath 💩 MD! This is an amazing channel! I really appreciate all the care and time you put into your creatures and their setups and well-being! You're a great fish daddy 😸

    If you go with rams be careful. German blue/electric blue/gold/black rams are very like discus. German blue rams are one of the few fish that are very sensitive to nitrate so make sure you keep ontop of the water changes. Personally I wouldn't do more than 2 pairs in that tank. Also need hot temperatures (27-30c) to do well.If you go with bolivian rams they are alot hardier, might be a better option to go with. Apistos should be good though. Good luck!

    first, South American dwarf cichlids would be AMAZING, so I'm really looking forward to that. Second, if you can set up a light for a couple of plants, try some Pinguicula. They are easy carnivorous plants that love midges and other small insects, and could add a cute element to your plant collection. Since your water is soft (slightly less of a concern with Pings), you might be able to grow them in your setups in the emersed areas... worth a try. Mexican pings (the easiest, I think) can grow on rocky walls. They need a dry period, so you might want to put them where they can be easily removed to rest, but it might help with your midge issue in the meantime. Anyway, a thought and something that you might want to play with.

  • @adiemurrell5761
    @adiemurrell57614 жыл бұрын

    If you’re having trouble with fungus gnats/midges, that’s really common when keeping houseplants too. A cool idea that doesn’t involve fly paper is to get some carnivorous plants - so many of them like boggy, humid, low nutrient conditions and they’d sit amazingly as marginals among the mosses and ferns. They’d look really cool, and catch bugs for you without endangering the fish. Can recommend mini Nepenthes species for the job - the variety I have is called “Monkey Cups” - but you could get sundews, pitcher plants, Venus fly traps (less efficient, but still cool) and many other options.

    It's a really nice setup. But you definitely have to block all of those gaps and holes inbetween the rocks! Turtles tend to go through EVERY gap, at least, they try, like 'hey, my head fits into I will get along'. As they grow and get more powerful they can easily shift the smaller rocks and make the whole construction unstable. In worst case, they get trapped or even slayed. Be aware. All the best for Timmyyyy ;-)

    In my opinion you should use sand,not gravel,or something of small granulation. Don't bother making a fixed and perfect arranged scape,filling gaps and looking perfect, as cichlids love to dig and will move sand around. I would recommend making the hardscape have more crevasses and places for the cichlids to hide. Awesome job,love your channel!👍👍

    MD Fish Tanks You could a cool species only tank with a big group of one of the ones I’ve said before, or with some paracyprichromis nigripinnis. Edit: Also you could do a community of some electric blues and yellows, some Neolamprologus pulcher, Julidochromis marlieri, lemon cichlids. Stuff like that. Edit to the edit: You should put 20-30 cichlids total. I know I’ve already commented this on another vid, but I think it’d look so cool. And since you asked for suggestions again, here you go.

    Hey African cichlid needs cracks and and crevices.. and prefer caved sections so that they can dart in and out. You can buy fake sunken ships with a lot of holes.. it looks beautiful and a perfect environment for them. Also sunken ship restricts the flow and a lot of dirt gets collected behind the toy and that helps increase the ph. I have 23 african cichlids in 4ft long, 15 inches wide and 18 inch tall with a top filter and a UV filter...

    For the cichlid tank, the substrate will help tremendously if it is aragonite. My cichlid tanks stay at a ph of 8 while my planted tanks are in the 6.6 range. I recommend substrate small enough for them to put in their mouth so they can excavate where they would like, but keep in mind the super fine substrate like aragonite “sugar” will be siphoned up a little each time you clean. I’m excited to see what you end up with, but definitely look at pseudotropheus saulosi. Also consider a community tank of Tanganyikans like leleupi, julidochromis, and either similis or multifasciatus and perhaps some ciprichromis leptosoma. That would be an awesome combination. Your rock formation screams African, but if you want to continue with plants and softer water, consider Electric Blue Acara, just anchor your plants well.

  • @spencergibbskibbe4435
    @spencergibbskibbe44354 жыл бұрын

    You should put Saulosi mbuna cichlids in your tank! They are dimorphic so you will get the blue in the males and yellow with the females and juveniles. They are a dwarf cichlid so they'll only get like 3 inches and the are mouth brooders so that's super cool!

    it's very simple: your filter is too slow because of the rocks in front of it. So, move your filter to have all the power of it and I think it will be good. And the UV ligth is not very good for an aquarium because too much powerfull and it allows algaes devlopment. (I hope it was clear, I am French ^^)

    Hey man! Just btw the red light you're using isn't too great for reptiles. They're marketed towards them, yes. But those kinds of lights are known to blind reptiles. I'd switch it out for a ceramic heat emitter or just a normal basking bulb

    Great video! Sorry I'm so late to the party! As a side note I always add beneficial bacteria to the tank when I add fish or do a large water change. It gives the fish less stress cause they seem to dislike change and such. Oh Yeah and Ember is an awesome name!

    Get some tanganjika cichlids. They are more suitable for "small" aquariums. Like some rare shell dwellers (neolamprologus occelatus for example) or altolamprologus and so on. Also, they have an extremly interesting behavior. Malawi's just have nice color... btw. Love your videos, greetings from Germany 💪🏻

    you may already know this but just be very cautious with the use of gravel in the turtle tank making sure it isn't small enough for him to try to eat which can cause impactions. Love the vids keep it up!!

    I like the rocks as is for cichlids; I wonder if you could do some emersing aquatic plant(s) from the island in Timmy's tank (bolbitis or hygrophyla etc)
