Understood the reference that people are saying the toad eyes are meant to resemble from the games. But I would prefer Nintendo/Illumination to change the eyes to look humanoid which is what baby Peach look like. And keep in mind that the King Penguin, Fire DK and Ice Peach are created for the movie, NOT from the game. I know it’s a daring move for them to change the eyes and i think it would spark a controversy at the end. But hey, i had fun editing the eyes and wanted to know how it turned out.

Baby Mario and Luigi in Mario Kart Wii had those eyes, and Baby Peach in MKWii also has his humanoid eyes! So thats why.

Welp it's a a complex topic 1. M&L don't look that good with humanoid eyes 2. In Yoshi's Island series, Baby Peach had humanoid eyes and the Mario Bros. had Toadish eyes so yeah

They exactly resemble themselves in Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. The sclera (white part of the eyes) only shows when they’re shocked or surprised 😳

Baby Mario and Luigi were like that ever since 1995, most probably due to Super Nintendo limits. Changing the eyes would be an ultra-cursed appearance at this point.

The dots are also due to sprite limits in the 1990s, which is the same reason why the bros. had dot eyes in the NES (and SNES when small) while TV and art showed normal eyes for them.

Meanwhile in the 80s Super Mario bros was made, and so was The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Mega Man. Belive me the graphic limitations of the SNES wasn't the issue, they made baby Mario with those eyes because they are cute. The end.

i think it's just them wanting to keep the original look for baby mario and luigi. i got no problem with it.

I think it’s about confirmed that the movie more so follows the logic of the cartoon show from the late 80s and early 90s, hence the logic and lore of the movie itself. Of course not everything is perfect (for example, Bowser being named King Koopa in the cartoon show) but I think it’s a lot closer to the Super Show than the games.
