I had the privilege and pleasure of meeting Mickey Rooney back in 1976 at the Downingtown Inn outside Phila. Was lucky enough to have him treat me to lunch because I did some work for him at his cottage on the golf course. He performed at the dinner theater there and if I remember correctly had a part interest in the resort. Great guy, polite and really down to earth.

Mickey Rooney was a genius. His talents were effusive. He could pickup any instrument and play it in 30mins like a virtuoso. I'm still trying to find a clip where he plays the banjo and a couple of other instruments as if they were his lifelong attention. His talents were under-rated and under appreciated. But where there is great talent there are also great flaws.

When The Addams Family went into TV syndication and Carolyn Jones' movies starting cropping up along side King Creole with Elvis.

It's occurred to me over the years, that Mickey Rooney made it his life's ambition to distance himself from all of the "Andy Hardy" and "Judy Garland" films he made when he was much younger. In the 50s and 60s etc. he seemed to always be playing the proverbial "tough guy" , all 5 ft. of him. He in my opinion , seemed to be obsessed with putting as much distance as possible from his early films. Tremendous difference between his early and later films........

Thank you very much, ghostrepublic, for uploading this film. And here they are, the usual suspects and heavies of film noir: Jack Elam, Ted de Corsia, and Elisha Cook Jr. (very good as Sydney Greenstreet's gunsel in The Maltese Falcon and better, still, in the epochal early Kubrick film The Killing (1956)) Bug-eyed Jack Elam could be very funny, c.f. him playing James Garner's sidekick in Support Your Local Sheriff and in Support Your Local Gunfighter (a.k.a. Latigo). @4:36 Screenplay by Daniel Mainwaring. Under the name of Geoffrey Homes, Mainwaring wrote the novel Build My Gallows High, which, under the title of OUT OF THE PAST (1947, Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer), was made into one of the very best classic films noirs.

Good thing I downloaded this. One of my favorites of all time. The era also produced Young Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Corman's Machine Gun Kelly, Ma Barker's Killer Brood (1960), The Bonnie Parker Story, The Rise and Fall of Leg's Diamond, I remember this watching on the late late show in the 1970's. When The Addams Family went into TV syndication and Carolyn Jones' movies starting cropping up along side King Creole with Elvis.
Wow what a story actors were incredible the mood was such that you feel as though you were there what a high standard of story line you would hard pressed to equal this in any time period thankyou so much for this Gem of a Movie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

When asked whom they thought was the greatest entertainer in Hollywood history, more of the great Hollywood stars named Mickey Rooney than any other person. The reason they all gave was that he could not only do everything, he could do everything well . . . singing, dancing, comedy, romance, drama, whatever. This movie was not his best. But Mickey is still one of the greats anyway.

The other film with Elisa Cook, Jr, that you're thinking of may have been "The Maltese Falcon" (1941), with Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Sidney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorre. Cook played Wilmer, the henchman of Casper "Fat Man" Gutman, Greenstreet's character.
John Hoyt and Jack Elam @1:04:20 both starred in a classic Twilight Zone, "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up ?" I thought this Mickey Rooney flick vanished forever. I last saw it on tv in the early to mid 60s. Morticia's lookin good in her pre-Adams Family days.
Amazing movie Ghost. Thank You.
