Baby elephant Khanyisa reaches 415 kgs and plays with her new friend - the mop!

Khanyisa managed to break her scale so this milestone crept up on us now that the scale is fixed! She is officially 415,5 kg this week!
To celebrate her big milestone Khanyisa was full of playfulness out in her garden. After gulping down her milk bottles 🍼, this 415 kilogram elephant discovers the nursery mop that Willinton is using to clean the orphanage and takes it for a spin!
Enjoy some closeups of her growing tusks and pink tongue as she slurps her bottle and her joyful garden morning as the herd come to visit before they all start their day together. Tokwe, Limpopo, Pisa and Timisa all stand close by, curiously smelling their neighbour.
We will share more scenes of the herd soon but today we have two special celebrations! It has taken a lot of tenacity, dedication and thinking out of the box (or at least more like an elephant) to get Khanyisa to this point!
And we could not have done it without your support - helping us to provide her with her milk formula, vegetables and vegetation, around-the-clock care and medical needs, and of course her elephant herd who have helped Khanyisa integrate into a family and a wilder life once again.
Khanyisa will need milk for at least another two years before she is weaned. Milk is the greatest expense when it comes to her care.

I never imagined that one of the sweetest happiest sounds to my ears(besides her rumbles)would be the noise of our girl demolishing those milk bottles like they are nothing it’s amazing to see how much she’s grown and to see all the milestones she’s met/continues to meet every single day just amazing I feel like a very proud Tia(auntie)Meisekind is truly blooming into a very beautiful curious and sometimes a little naughty pink butterfly she is slowly but surely growing up her,making friends with the mop definitely gave me a giggle I couldn’t stop smiling. I’m reminded every time I see Khanyisa that she absolutely has the perfect name because she brings us all so much Sunshine and light with her antics as well as her never ending courage and happiness she is pure love and I can’t get enough of my beautiful baby girl,if you had told me a year ago my life and heart would become so utterly invested/transformed by a tiny pink elephant calf on the other end of the world I wouldn’t have believed it yet that’s exactly what happened.I’m so blessed to have found Khanyisa’s story I feel like I came upon it for a reason,we are both survivors each with our own challenges and stories.Pink Princess is simply a gift we all didn’t even realize we needed in our lives.💖💖🐘🐘👑👑☀️☀️🐘🐘💖💖

It is something isn't it how much we love and respect HERD. I feel connected to them emotionally. I feel like they are my extended family.
All I can say is GOD BLESS HERD, ADINE, AND THE CARERS WHO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE FOR THIS SWEET BABY, AND THE OTHER ELEPHANTS UNDER THEIR CARE AND PROTECTION! The pink princess is maturing so fast From this side of the world it seems only yesterday that she came to HERD all damaged and sore from the snare. Until then I thought the mouth bomb injuries were the worst . With your care and devotion, she has healed to become a wonderful Queen of the Mop. Well done and thank you.

Aww I feel for her. When I've watched baby elephants drink from their mothers they use their trunk to touch the underside of mums belly. Its a comfort to both mum and baby just like when a human baby carresses her mother when feeding. So I watch when they feed her to see who allows her to touch them and respond with compassion. It tells me who understands the importance of touch with bonding. No matter how much we try our best no one can replace mothers. She is so lucky to have herd and the companionship of the elephants who love her as much as us.

This brought me a smile this morning. She's so funny.
Such a beautiful and healthy baby pink elephant.... thanks to Adine and all of the carers and vets and staff. She sure loves her milk bottles. I remember when it took her quite a while to finish one bottle of milk. Now she gulps those two bottles of milk down very quickly. So cute with her mop friend.... LOL
It would have been hilarious if the mop head wasn't attached to the stick. At one point she put the mop on her head and if the stick wasn't attached she probably would have left it on her head for a while. It would have looked like a wig. How funny that would have been and a keepsake picture to keep. Lol!😆
You may not have got a good view of her teeth, but you always get a good view of the pockets around her tusks! And learning about her anatomy is always fascinating! I'm so much more aware and curious about the elephants now, in all of their anatomy! I'd like to know how far back those pockets go. So of course, I'll google it. lol
💞✨The moment to moment joy and elation which all of HERD, brings, is immeasurable. Khanyisa is a lightening speed, milky vacuum. Not a drop to be spared. 🍼😆 The simplest items are the perfect play things. Thank goodness for HERD

Must be all the sweet potatoes she eats that help weight gain. She is going to look so comical when she's taller than the carers and still being bottle fed. Funny that she likes to play with rake and mop. The inner tyre tube is also fun for her. You should get someone to make her a giant cuddly elephant "doll" to keep her company.

Just shows how really smart she is. Obviously she has seen a mob in use and when she finally gets a hold of it she is figuring out what part she normally sees on the floor and how people manipulated it, as she is trying to mimic that activity. That she is doing this, not being taught it as a 'trick' but just out of her own observations shows how well her development is going, not that mopping is a development step of course, but he ability to see how another does something and repeating it - which is how she learns things from her mother and the rest of the herd.

Looking bk on older videos of our Baby, she is so clever entertaining herself and exercising at the same time, i could watch Khanysia drink her milk all day, and those beautiful rumbles 😍 Khanysia is thriving here, youd not know how unwell she actually was as the love, care, compassion and patience and the will to survive has transformed our Baby into one happy Elephant, i cnt thank you Adine and your team enough. Wow, 900lbs and then some! Great news, our Khanyisa is getting hefty. Aww so sweet seeing Tokwe and her girls. Tokwe always keeping an eye on her herd. Surprised Kumbura wasn't at that fence too. So happy little Khan is not so little anymore. ❤

Yea, Khanyisa! Over 400 kilos! Getting bigger everyday. I'm so proud of her growth. She had a hard time for awhile but now she's doing great! She even has little teeny tusks coming in. So cute! And she can drink two bottles in no time. I remember when it took her a long while to finish one. She's come a long way!💕🐘💕 Silly girl, playing with the mop!😄
