I'm scared to death of mandrilles. My husband encouraged me to feed them at a zoo in the 1980s. I put nuts in my hand so the babies could reach through the wire and take them, just as other visitors were doing. But the big male right across the enclosure came bounding so fast, thrust his hand through the wire and snatched everything from my palm. I was left with three long lines of blood and scratches across my palm. I will never go near them ever again! How he got his hand through the wire with such precision at such speed was incredible. I was left shaking. No more mandrilles for me.

A mandrill submits by presenting its rump. Not itself being aggressive towards the toddler. However, with aggression, mandrills will stare, bob their heads, and slap the ground to show there dominance and pecking line.

In 1970 in a african tribe were I was going I went in the jungle with my friends to have fun, and suddenly I heard some of those monkeys screaming, and then we runned away, but they chased us, one of them bite my leg, and I had to use a knife on this head to save my life, while my friend which had an ak-47 has killed about 1.000 of these monkey warriors.

@Vinnie, actually, a baboon is any monkey constituting the tribe Papionini, therefore geladas, drills, and mandrills are baboons, there are nine extant species of baboon under five genera, which are the Kinda Baboon (Therocebus kindae), the Yellow Baboon (Lycopithecus cynocephalus), the Cape Baboon (Lycopithecus ursinus), the Guinea Baboon (Papio guineensis), the Olive Baboon (Papio anubis), the Hamadryas Baboon (Papio hamadryas), the Gelada Baboon (Theropithecus gelada), the Drill (Mandrillus leucophaeus), and the Mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx), the guinea, olive, and hamadryas baboons are all more closely related to the gelada baboon, drill, and mandrill than to any of the southern species.
