I'm about to start 78 training! Never used a hud before. I'm coming from the airbus. Helpful video.

I’m a boeing pilot but not type rated on B787. Question: 1. isn’t it a callout “fire warning” instead of “engine failure”? 2. After memory items stopped at fire warning handle pull and rotate, when plane reach above 1000 AFE, should the flaps retraction on schedule happen first or waiting for time up for rotate fire warning handle to the opposite?

1: this crew are correct: particular SOPs for this company are to call the reason for master caution/warning (fire) without stating which engine. In this case it was failure initially with no audible fire warning. Priority is to fly away from the ground, gear up and nav etc. The fire warning occurred once airborne and FCOM is no actions below 400' other than to get the gear up and concentrate on the flying to avoid getting sucked into a problem that hasn't even been correctly identified by both. The fire warning should be (correct in this case) called once above 400', confirmed by both and then the monitored and coordinated memory items carried out. if the fire warning occurred at the point of failure then yes just "engine fire" without stating which one and still no actions below 400' other than to cancel distracting bells/alerts etc. 2: This crew is correct. The EOSID asked for is the company emergency turn procedure to deal with the high terrain (in this e.g. EGCC) once the turn away from high ground is established then the crew accelerate and clean up. At an airport without an engine out procedure, you are correct as at a minimum 1000' AFE you can accelerate (providing of course you can maintain terrain seperation)
