In this episode, we chat with Kalkidan, a software developer, Udemy instructor, and remote work expert. Kalkidan's story is one of determination and hustle. She started her software journey in university, tutoring to earn passive income. Her skills grew, and she offered courses in Java, web development, and mobile development with Flutter. She even hired others to teach graphic design and video editing!
The arrival of Covid-19 presented a challenge, but also an opportunity. Kalkidan leveraged her savings to start her own company, building websites for local businesses in her hometown of Combolcha. Despite the distance from the capital city, she persevered. However, just as she was gaining traction, Covid restrictions eased, and she was called back to university.
Undeterred, Kalkidan turned to Upwork and freelancing. Her hard work paid off, but she also discovered the challenges of freelancing - writing proposals, competing for projects, and encountering clients who undervalue her skills. This led her to seek a full-time remote position. Through LinkedIn, she landed a dream job with a Danish company in Copenhagen.
However, after living there for a year, Kalkidan realized Denmark wasn't for her. She returned to Ethiopia and poured her experience into creating a highly successful Udemy course, "Leveling Up as a Node.js Developer - Advanced Node.js 2024". Now, with over 500 students enrolled, she's passionate about growing and promoting her course.

Very educative , she is very knowledgeable in technology and with amazing courage. For gugut my suggestion is please don’t interrupt guests before they finish their idea. Bruk you are really good in your questions but would be really great if you let the guests finish their idea. This is not criticism just a suggestion, all of you guys are doing great in interviews specially on technology!!! Regarding the spiritual part, it somehow changed the episode 😂 I thought I was on a different show or I clicked wrong link. She still needs to work on that but she is good on technical, that is enough for the episode. I like the motivational aspect of that even though I don’t necessarily have to agree on the spiritual part.

Biruk, I really like your critical thinking/insights, but, please, don't be ignorant and full of yourself. You might be an expert in your arena (technology) but that doesn't mean you know everything about everything. It's one thing to add your input about things here and there, but you present your ideas as if you perfected everything (in this specific episode, about ART). It usually ends up making you look like shockingly ጥራዝ ነጠቅ and spiritually obedient to tech. It doesn't hurt to say "I don't know about this" OR listen to someone who really does.
