坂野家住宅は「四間取り」を基調に江戸時代後期に母屋を大幅に増築したもので、東側の土間や南面する客間は、入母屋作りの屋根とともに大型農家の特色をよくあらわしています。また、1ヘクタールに及ぶ広大な屋敷は、従来武家屋敷に設けられた薬医門と土塀に囲まれ、昭和43年に国の重要文化財の指定を受けました。現在は、周辺の里山風景や便益機能の整備、主屋の保存修理工事を終え、水海道風土博物館として、一般公開しています。また、映画やドラマのロケ地としてもたびたび使われています。

The Sakano family residence was a major addition to the main building in the late Edo period, and the earthen floor on the east side and the guest room facing south, along with the gambrel roof, clearly express the characteristics of a large farmhouse. In addition, the vast one-hectare mansion is surrounded by a Yakuin gate and an earthen wall, which were traditionally installed in samurai residences, and was designated as a national important cultural property in 1961. Currently, the surrounding Satoyama scenery and beneficial functions have been improved, and the main building has been preserved and repaired, and is now open to the public as the Mitsukaido Landscape Museum. It is also often used as a filming location for movies and dramas.
