B&M Empty track vs filled track sound comparison.

Use headphones for the best audio. The empty track gives out that signature roar that can be heard from quite a distance, while the filled track is nearly silent without much of a change in ride experience.

@mme725 The second park, Knott's Berry Farm, was originally what it says -- a berry farm famous for its pies and fruit preserves. The amusement park was built to entertain customers while they waited for pies (and fried chicken too, I think), and it ended up becoming the primary business. The store that sells pies is still there, but they don't grow the berries on site any longer. Anyhow, the point is that in their case, the city was already there, and they bought two city blocks and built on them. It's a little like Disneyland that way, only worse (they're in the same general area but Disneyland is several times the size).

An empty track B&M sounds like a low-flying fighter jet - Monster at Walygator Park is extremely loud, both off-ride and on-ride! This clone of Cedar Points "Raptor" might not look very nice, but the lack of a mid-course brake run makes this ride very intense - it's awesome!

Some B&Ms are made to be loud even with a filled track, the parks want riders to be intimidated by the sound or the sound matches the ride theme. For example The Incredible Hulk at Universal was made to be loud to represent The Hulks roar. Ride theme example being Afterburn at Caroeinds, originally called Top Gun (movie) the trains are supposed to sound like a Jet.

The filled coaster is also part of an astonishingly small amusement park in the middle of a major suburban area. It's not even like people moved in after the park, the city was there first. Noise ordinances apply, and they have to shut down earlier than many other places (say, Disneyland or Six Flags Magic Mountain) that have a little bit of isolation between their noise and the city beyond. It's silent or nothing, unless they want to move the entire place.

These sound the same, and that is because Silver Bullet uses the empty track. The Filled track was introduced by re-doing some parts of Leviathan, and B&M started using a slightly different track design by filling the rails with sand. @@pittsburghthrills1281 Defiantly not speed related. Nemesis at Alton towers is 5mph slower then Silver Bullet, but still sounds mean AF. 2014 was the first time retroactively filling B&M track, but they have been experimenting with filled track and supports from the factory since the 90's, using either a lightweight sand, foam, or gravel. In addition to Silver bullet, Medusa at SFDK in 2000, Talon in 01', Patriot at Worlds of Fun in '06, as well as parts of Gatekeeper in 13', All have filled track, and all have opened before 2014. Its not a new thing like the Engineering explained video would have you believe. Edit: Also, keep in mind that the recording setup i used to make this video was identical at booth parks: a Zoom h1n, with auto level on, no low cut, MP3 format, and the SP-TFB-2 in ear binaural mics. the ambient noise at Cedar point was MUCH louder, with the swelltones playing in the midway below, so even tho my video compares the sound, it doesn't capture how radically different they are in volume.
