B&M 250 Supercharger Rebuild: Carb Adapter, Sandblasting, and Painting (78 Firebird Ep.26)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The set of supercharger parts we bought off of eBay didn't include a few important things like the carburetor adapter plate that bolts to the top of the case and allows carburetors to be attached, and we're certainly going to need one. It was a tough time even finding one, and we still had to make some changes to make it work. We also have to clean up all of the major components, which means a trip to the blasting cabinet to take off the old paint and years of use. Finally, we'll paint the individual components to get them ready for reassembly.
Timeline of filming: December 16th, 2019 - April 26th, 2020
Song List (Order of First Appearance):
0:01 Take Your Time - Dan Lebowitz
6:35 Jeremiah's Song - Dan Lebowitz
12:17 Parkside - Dan Lebowitz

Literally the straightest angle grinder cut I've ever seen, made by a HF angle grinder... truly a God amongst men.
Your diy machining skills is something that not many people have.

It's a matter of good ole "Can Do" attitude.
I’ve been in a bad spot in life for a few years but I’m im starting to do stuff again and enjoy life and it makes my day coming back to your channel that I used to watch when I was younger and five years later your still my favorite automotive channel. A lot of things I’ve learned about vehicles came from you so thank you for sharing your project’s stories with us
Wow, expert grinder work. Nik Blackhurst would be proud.

project binky forever
If you have to cut aluminium with cutting discs get yourself an old candle and cut into it occasionally when cutting. Makes the cuts much easier and makes the discs last way longer as they don’t chatter and clog. Works with sanding discs and flap wheels aswell just make sure to clean afterwards especially if your ever gonna weld the area. Nice work
I started watching when you installed that supercharger like 4 or 5 years ago, just wanna say man, you've been making great content for a really long time, really educational and helpful, we appreciate you man keep it up 🔥
I'm getting intense flashbacks of all of the times I "saved money" by buying used parts and abandoned projects. Whatever you do, don't start counting up your receipts or time to get that stuff right. 😆 I'm also sitting here with my jaw a gap over how straight of a cut you were able to make with a grinder. It would have looked like I swung an angry beaver at it if I had tried that. FWIW, actual machine shop labor isn't as expensive as a lot of people think it is. I would imagine a "whenever you can fit it in and it's not going on a spaceship" project of that size wouldn't be more than $100. I may also be known to chuck a mill cutter into my drill press... allegedly. ...I also feel like some other guy just made a video about painting car parts. 😎😁
Finally, a video where someone makes a gasket. When I see people say "I paid $XXX for this gasket" or "I'll just have to reuse the gasket as it isn't available any more" I just think they're nuts. 🤷🏻♂️
Only a 20 minute video?!! I could watch this for four hours!! Ha ha
Self etching primer is a great idea for aluminum to get the paint to adhere
Looks awesome. That being said you may find you need to change the rotor seals after running for a bit. The factory machine finish aids in sealing the rotor seals to the case. Keep an eye on boost dropping over time. May mean a seal replacement is needed.
Just the fact the adapter you wound up having to use had matching ribs in line matching the casting of the B&M you have is amazing. Even having to do adaptations that's a hell of a find.
Honestly the cutting you did just adds to the coolness of it all
Between you and ole Ronald fanger I'm bout to go nuts seriously you two guys do this type of you tube the best we just need more content
Wow, what a massive amount of tedious work. Add to that the filming and editing.. Your content is top quality, thanks so much for the effort.
Paused the video a few minutes in... the carb adapter is a really good opportunity for 3d printing as plastic would kill the heat soak between the blower and carbs, easily custom made to fit, and I know with blowers putting weak points to act as mechanical fuses for safety in event of over boosting is a big deal, and a plastic component would work quite well I imagine in that regard
I like and agree that blasting all the surfaces was perfect. The gaskets will actually seal better now.
Hahaha man this super charger is something I would accidentally end up buying. Thanks for sharing I'm glad you are making videos again. Been missing you since the cross country road trip video.
Them are some steady hands brother.
If you're die grinding aluminum, keep spraying your bit down with WD40 - it slows down the material from clogging the flutes.
A good primer that I think you should look into is the duplicolor self etching primer. I use it regularly in a restoration shop, it adheres super well to pretty much everything, and it's just a surefire way to make sure your paint sticks good. Though what you did here should also last a good long time!
Woooo! More fuzzy dice vids!
Nice to wake up to a new episode!
Great idea about the plastic caps for stands to paint,
Nice freehand cutting!!!
Amazing work cutting those straight lines without machine shop equipment.
Yay. I gotta say live the style of your videos. Calming to watch and you explain stuff so well. I’m gonna do a “how to” on painting my truck with tractor paint and I’m probably gonna do it similar to your videos. I’m looking forward to the new videos that you upload
Oh man I hope you’re right about sanding the inner surface
It's great to see you continuing that 454 build with the supercharger, it's been a while. Looking forward to your series it's always enjoyable to watch cheers👍👍👍
2 hours @ 200°F also cures that paint out nicely if you don't want to wait 3-5 days
Wooow (Owen Wilson's vocie), 2 videos that are not 2 years apart !!!!
Yep that's seems like my luck as well It always rare parts or hard to find pieces anyway it looking good can't wait to hear it in action
Wow, great work with that grinder. I think I would have used a table saw to make those cuts. I don't trust my grinder skills. LOL
not bad. see you next time.
That's a wondeful job, Mr.! Congrats and thank's for share knowledge!
Damn, I must say, you are extremely skillful with anglegrinder. Hats down.
I also love Golden Grahams!!!
Glad to see more videos
Very nice job! I remember in High School a guy in the next town had a Dodge Charger with a Blower on it and he use to use Cereal boxes cause his 671 came off a bus! the way you made yours was just how my dad taught me when I was little. Its cool to watch this cause I think your in Maryland and I lived there from 1979-1988 and still have a tun of friends there.

Only because we actually had a bus with a 6-71 in it do I feel compelled to mention it's "6-71", not 671, especially if it came from an actual Detroit Diesel engine. 6 cylinders, 71 cubic inches per cylinder, is now Detroit nomenclature of the era worked (and the 71 series was manufactured for like 80 years, which is why that nomenclature is still popular today). X-71 were inline motors, Xv71 were the Vs. The aftermarket sort of fudges it now with things like "14-71" sized blowers, where there was never such an engine. Anyhow... Please excuse my pedantry. 😉
I appreciate the time stamps on your videos. I've been watching several of your builds over the years, and I think this blower has been the most challenging and time consuming process so far. But if you can get this blower to live happily with the 454, it will all be worthwhile. I salute your dedication.
Looks really nice, I think that Scotch-Brite & WD40 will be just fine on that blower housing.
Looking good Fuzz, enjoying the latest spurt of uploads.
Here he is hes alive
Whoa I love this new uploading schedule 😎
Wow that supercharger is gonna look sooooo good! You really did a beautiful job cleaning up the parts.
Nice work!
Love getting on KZread and seeing that you posted. Love the vids
A really satisfying episode!
these episodes are priceless, i just cant wait for the next one!
I love this channel so much
Outstanding work!! Can't wait to see it all together.
Been watching this stuff for what feel like my whole life but it never disappoints
Can't wait for the next installment, please post soon. :)
Personally I cannot decide if inner surface should or should not be blasted from technical stand point...but final look is awesome.
These videos are fantastic can't wait to see more
Running the discs in a bar of soap helps it to not get gummed up by the aluminum.
Makes you appreciate hard work.
I would love to see it run it
I love your videos! I’m so glad to see you posting again!
love the vids man, you can tell you put alot of time into them, thanks.
nice more videos
I really enjoy all your videos. Thanks for making them.
You have bigger balls than me my friend. I would not have attempted that with the grinder, I would have just bit the bullet and paid to have it machined.
dammit just really enjoying the video and it ends :(
Everything is looking great 👍.
oh hey I'm in the credits now LOL
A VERY satisfying video. Great work!
Great video. Your style of video is awesome, keep them coming.
Great series
Great work.
Welcome back We want to see the ending
great video! Love the time you put into making these and the DIY attitude on everything
Love your videos man.
great job, keep it up
Great video!
YESSSSS new episode
kudos to having steady hands - I would have destroyed it
Looking good the inside of the blower is worth keeping a good eye on as you say. The machine line is an odd thing to spot but if it worked for the last owner, it should work OK now.

In all seriousness, it's nice to see you back! It feels like forever since the conclusion of the Ford Pinto adventure. I'm happy to see the '78 firebird getting some more attention.
Yes!!!!!!
respekt on your name
I wanna point out that for aluminium you can use a Diamond /agressive wheel less dust more cuts!
Let’s go!!!
I tried to double Like!
Yay!
This is an absolutely bonerific episode. MAN I cannot wait to see/hear this on the car.
Entertaining as always dude 😊 I will say though that from an engineering perspective I wouldn't recommend sand blasting any machined mating surface just cos they're machined to give a nice smooth surface to seal against.
Let's go. Ringing the bell helps this time!
Sand blasting the inside of the blower was a bold move. Curious to see how it works out.
Those angle grinder cuts are truly amazing, and I also have a question that I have seen a few others talk about as well. Your house seems to be pretty nice, so I really wonder how you afford it.
In woodworking they have a tool called a router...
@FuzzyDiceProjects

Yep, I've used handheld ones for some metalworking too! But what I have is a tool called a grinder lol
I swear. You have the same luck with cars as me.
The headache with having a sort of "oddball" 250 is making me nervous for my transmission rebuild. It's a T-10 from a '66 Mustang. Almost all Mustangs used Toploader transmissions by '66, so the workshop manual has no information about the T-10 for '66. And from what I've read online, the '66 transmission is sort of a one off, between the earlier T-10 and the later Super T-10 transmissions. Very fun.
@FuzzyDiceProjects
Жыл бұрын
That's definitely frustrating, I hope for your sake that it is close enough to a regular T-10 that parts interchange and there aren't big headaches. Best of luck with your peculiar project!
@TheBrokenLife
Жыл бұрын
You may look into other makes that were using the T-10 in '66 and see if they have better documentation. I know Chevrolet ran T-10s in the Corvette for a period of time but might have moved on to Muncie by then, but Chrysler might not have and I know AMC didn't. FWIW, the top loader is a better transmission if an upgrade path should make itself more clear than a rebuild.
@perotekku
Жыл бұрын
@@TheBrokenLife Certainly the Toploader is the better trans, however the T-10 is the trans of choice for a couple reasons. Firstly, it was cheap, and it's the one I own now. But secondly, the 62-64 Fairlanes (which my car is a part of) only came with T-10s, so for correctness sake, I'd like to stick with a T-10.
@TheBrokenLife
Жыл бұрын
@@perotekku I got ya. 👍
End results are awesome, but I am curious as to whether you considered trimming back the ribs along the edge of the blower case instead of trimming the adapter plate. Regardless, looks great!
