Slight correction in the last few seconds: 161 does not empower the police to call a person (witness/ accused) during investigation, this is under section 160 crpc. 161 is just about the statement recorded during investigation. Another thing, sir is almost accurate regarding statement under section 161 having negligible value but still it can be used to contradict such person at later stages (trial stage).
