Hakudo sensei insisted on students wearing white so that he would be certain that students would properly present themselves in the dojo. I left the UK in 2004 and returned in 2016 to be aghast at karate students etc; children and adults, wearing their gi's in public. Never ever should be allowed. I would not, if I were teaching to allow my students to do so. So sad to see how standards have fallen.
