Athens, Georgia's resident musical oddballs The B-52s had earned a strong alternative rock following by serving up cultural kitsch with loving winks, but the loss of founding guitarist Ricky Wilson in 1985 was a serious blow. Yet the group came back swinging; released on this day in 1989, COSMIC THING became their most successful album, soaring into the Billboard Top 10 on its way to quadruple-Platinum sales. Produced by Nile Rodgers and Don Was, the collection includes such standout tracks as “Channel Z,” “Deadbeat Club” and a pair of Top 10 singles: “Roam” and irresistible signature song “Love Shack.” If you don't already have a copy, COSMIC THING is well worth your “jukebox money” - it's a surefire way to get a party into high gear!

This album is my childhood and brings me so much happiness
I love The B-52s! I saw them at a concert in Cologne, it was great! And the best part was… I caught a Drumstick from Fred Schneider! 🤩😎👍🏼🎶 Many greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

Bushfire was always the underrated gem for me on this fantastic album. Cindy and Kate hit some sick notes and their harmonies are as good as ever. Love me some B-52s! Ultimate party band. Instant depression-fixer. The more batshit the world gets, the more thankful I can crank this music up. Cheers, Rhino, for the new upload!

Such a great album. I was about 10 or 11 years old when it came out. My dad would play this tape in the car when I saw him on the weekends. Reminds me of a time that’s now long gone, for better or worse.

The band's correct name for many years was "The B-52's", but in 2008 they dropped the apostrophe, posted on their website, on the Funplex album cover and single reading "The B-52s"

Today is not only the *1* year anniversary of when the B-52's' 1989 album "Cosmic Thing" was uploaded but also the *35* year anniversary of when it was originally released! I think that "Cosmic Thing" might be my favorite album of theirs. Either that or their 1979 self-titled debut album. 🤓👍

When B52 made the 1st albums & Devo,Kraftwerk,the UK New Waves bands, it was still 70s ! Disco & Reggae was the main thing! Even worst Progr. Rock, Heavy metal & super groups with their own jets & limousines! That's why PuNk came out in the scene. Thank gods
