Awesome! I love these MRF videos. The optical sorters and eddy currents are fun to watch sorting all that stuff out. Very true how people are bad at recycling. The most common thing I see people contaminating recycling bins with here is yard waste and wood. Especially the yard waste. I don't know what makes people think they can recycle that stuff. Surprising how the residential WM drivers can drive on the passenger side when on the main roads. With Republic it's the exact opposite lol.

Thanks! Yeah very fun watching all the material get sorted out. I guess one benefit of curb sort recycling is that you get really clean material, just not a lot of it haha Yeah, that's a dumb rule on Republic's part. Kevin and I filmed an AW Curotto and he had to get out and switch sides every few houses. It was ridiculous. WM is less strict about it than Republic but if you are in transit to somewhere (yard to route or TS), then you have to be on the left side. Of course, that's only with low entry trucks because most of the residential WM trucks are RHD only, so you really don't have any other option on what side to drive the truck on lol

Incredible video, Azusa is such a neat place. I had no idea they had so many conveyer belts (and how fast they are) and it is a much larger facility from the inside. That was neat how we saw the truck full of recyclables that was shipped to Azusa from New York in the cargo container, recyclables from El Cajan was not as amazing after seeing that! Wow, you got a clip of the ex Sun Valley yard Athens tri axle at 11:15 in the background. My favorite clip in the video has got to be 9:22, glad to see Joe again, and that's Joe being Joe! Too bad I don't see him on trash every Monday morning anymore. Marc was a great tour guide and thanks for posting this great video, I had a blast.

Thanks! Love Azusa, imagine if they opened this place like 10 years ago, how fun would that be! Yeah that NY trailer was crazy! Haha yeah I noticed that Athens truck when I was rewatching the video, so glad they came here. Glad we stayed long enough to see Joe! What an awesome guy he is. Thanks for tagging along!

This is a brilliant video hopefully 10 years from now alot of these MRFS will be fully automated. Like a car assembly line AMP Robotics have worked with WM to get the robots in the industry.

wowwowwow I've never seen something like this on KZread before hahaha the tour guide said that people suck at recycling and that's true cause people still bag their stuff which makes it harder to sort. Interesting they used a magnet that repels to aluminum and nice to see a clip right after or where those cans go. Also liked seeing all the trucks drive off in the sunset. Awesome to see a Mack still living on. Joe seems like a good guy and wow the 105 series trucks are nice. Awesome job on this one Aaron

Haha thanks! Yeah unfortunately many people are too lazy to separate out their recycling properly. There's a lot of neat technology that goes into this whole process that I never knew about, I particularly liked the lasers that take out plastic bottles. Yeah they seemed to be running a good amount of Macks yesterday but they all came in late. Joe is AWESOME. He's one of the greatest guys out there. The 105s are really nice. We got two more brand new ones (1056 units) and when they're all clean and shiny like right now, they look great.

that's one awesome spot to visit.

OMG, I had no clue that people have to sort through our crap, I always imagined that it was all automated or some other kind of hocus-pocus. Wish that the tour guide had his own microphone though, some of what we did get to hear sounds fascinating.

No problem haha I was personally expecting and hoping for more truck action so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the tour despite the majority of it being of the sort lines and all that. Yeah sure did ask, they said come back anytime. The view we got originally of the tipping floor wasn't spectacular from the ground since all the trucks do their clean out RIGHT by where we were standing so I didn't get any good unloading shots. But next time, I'll try to see if I can get a better view of the tipping floor closer to where the trucks enter the building. They have a great view from the upstairs room but of course, the sound is limited. Either way, we know another facility with a top notch unloading view ;-)

I’m a sorter for waste management at azusa and mark the boss that left did me dirty for not giving my raise for my locks .... it took me 3 months to get my raise when It should of took one month. For a job like this sorting all people trash and diapers we should be getting paid $13+ instead of $11.25 .... who would want to wake up at 3:45 am and get out at 2:30 pm Monday thru Saturday sorting trash... no one will survive in the MRF. #OnlyTheStrongestSurvive #FuckWasteManagement

Nice vid Aaron I like MRFs I have a video of my local MRF from a. Couple of years ago it's cool how they sort everything. Also I have some WM videos up if you haven't watched them yet.

What a neat video! I love seeing MRF videos and recycling processes. Some of the shots you got nearly reminded me of a Dr Seuss factory or something with all those moving belts and machines. My favorite pieces of technology in there are by far those optical sorters for the plastic. I wonder what the success rate is of that machine and if it ever misses pieces of plastic jammed or stuck in other material. I love how your guide told you "people suck at recycling". Wish that wasnt the case but sadly its true. For example, that mess of film jamming up the system at 3:15. Now do bagged recycling material get opened here by machines or hand? Ive heard at other places that due to the safety of workers bagged material is regarded as trash. Also do the plastic bags they pull out on the line get recycled? I know LA recycles plastic bags but not sure about WM. Did Marc also happen to tell you about the quality of the paper material they end up with here? I'd image it would be cleaner than a dirty MRF's. Love to get a tour of this place one day, so maybe you could hook me up! I have a LOT of questions about MRFs!

Thank you! Yeah all the belts here was quite a sight, your comparison to a Dr. Seuss factory is spot on haha I believe bags are treated as trash sadly. Might be wrong though but with how fast the material goes by, it wouldn't surprise me if it's all pulled out. Wow! Thats the biggest MRF I've ever seen! It always interests me how other companies process their recycling. I was really surprised to learn that they can separate out the glass shards into the 3 colors even when they are that small. Do you know how they store the glass before it gets sent off? Neat video!

Thank you! Impressive operation, that's for sure! Yeah I was shocked to find out myself. I forget what the name is of the company that can pick out the glass like that but very surprising to find out that they can sort it like that. The glass is dropped into a bunker and put into trailers to get sent off to the processing facility. Glad you enjoyed!

Nah man his standards are way higher lol Would be nice if every truck's rims were as clean as his though. I myself love a truck with clean polished rims.
