Azure Cost Optimization Deep Dive

Ғылым және технология

This is the video version of a blog I recently posted over at savilltech.com/2020/05/04/opt... (which also has all the links in it I refer to in this video). It covers key considerations around optimizing your costs in Azure including gaining insights into costs and optimizing costs for resources used. Grab a drink before this one ;-)
Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas in the comments!

Great talk John. Reserved Instances are great! I just checked and it's not turned on for my client. Huge cost-saving opportunity there. You just made my day Good sir! I wish I could buy you a beer ( or two! )!!

Remember use RI for the baseline use as you pay 24/7 so don’t buy more than you know will use or will use for majority so discount worth a little waste.

Great video. We're going through the reservations process at my company right now and saving a fortune! May even be the start of a dedicated Finops team.

Nice one! Very informative on the cost optimization levers that are available across compute and storage. I expected it to be a cost analysis deep dive but its mostly me who read it wrong. More of a wishful thinking, but may be a cost analysis deep dive is on the horizon?

I may do a cost analysis video in the future around Azure Cost Management but there is already a lot of material out there on that.

Hi John, I like your content because it is explained very well and simple. I do have one remark on the vidoes that bothers me as a viewer that I want to share. 😊 For whiteboad sessions I understand you to stand in front of screen but for PowerPoint sessions you are covering 1/3 of the presentation. This leaves the visual learners that want to follow what you say with the presentation out. It is small viaual remark but I would rather watch you in a small screen in the corner instead of in the middle of the presentation. 😊 Cheers

i typically have the PPT taking up 2/3 with gap if you look at most other videos. This was actually created for another reason but decided to record quick :-)

what are your thoughts on the Burstable series VM? seems basic and straightforward but I'm still cautious about it in production workload

I think make sense for workloads that only need cpu in short bursts but always small risk you won’t be able to burst to full amount so it’s cost vs need to definitely get 100%

Great to hear. T shirt fund is all good but thank you :) as I’ve said many times this channel is about giving back to the community and I don’t want to make money from it. Why I don’t have advertising on my content. Thank you though. If compelled donate to a charity or cause for something you think worthwhile.
