As much as I’d like boss music of my own, I think having a subtle sound effect makes it that much more effective in making your presence felt by everyone. Like an, in your gut feeling that something’s wrong. Kinda like with Azula, we never really noticed while watching, but dang it is noticeable.

People who don’t pay attention/ don’t know what a tritone is wouldn’t know why there feeling so unsettled whenever azulas on screen, but these two little dings that are consistently a tritone apart PERFECTLY and simplistically do their job at immediately unnerving the audience whenever she comes on screen I love it!!

i just want to point out that this sound effect is a tritone, which is also referred to as the devil's chord because of how unstable/ugly it sounds. azula is one of the best villain's ever written and i love how this is her little theme

For the musically interested, the ding sound is a tritone, which makes perfect sense for Azula's character.

I’m in the process of watching the whole series for the first time. 1:06 I watched this episode today and immediately as I heard the chime I was like “oh shit it’s Azula”

Hi music person here: The Azula sound is known as a tritone. Throughout history, the tritone was known as the "devil's chord" and wasn't often in music unless it was to show that a character in a play/opera was evil. I thought it was interesting how this was coined as azula's sound because it shows she's one of the most evil people in the show! Let me add though that by "evil" i am just talking about this history of the tritone. Azula being evil also can mean she's misguided, struggling, etc. She is more than just the "evil character."

I don't think it was because of that, I don't think she was in any way putting on a facade here actually- same thing happened when she was a kid, and didn't when she was literally undercover as a Kyoshi Warrior. I think it was more about her being less evil/more innocent in that moment, which is why when that chance at normalcy is broken the sound goes right back to usual.

I refuse to believe Azula doesn't have bells in her hair.

The glorious thing about music composers is their ability to create theme songs for the characters to let you know they're around or about to show in the next clips. Azula's signature was the DING

1:58 you can hear here that the bells sound much softer because she likes that guy and tries to flirt with him and when he rejects her it becomes the angry and unsettling one again such a cool detail
