AZHT: How to Properly use Spurs on a Horse - STAY SOFT

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Learn how to use spurs properly to disengage a horses hind quarter. Spurs are not meant to stab or kick the horse they are used to roll and be light with it. Get your horse used to the spurs on the ground first, take the time to roll the spur softly on both sides till they are comfortable with the noise and feel of it. Let them smell it and feel it with their nose if they are weary. If your horse has not seen or felt a spur, they may spook and become reactive. Therefore, it is important that you reassure them that it is not harmful on the ground first.
As always it take time, patience, and practice!
Soft Hands, Soft Horse!

I had a couple of horses that would start acting up periodically I put my spurs on in front of them and never had to use them my uncle told me Spurs are like a 45 you don't shoot everybody you see because you're wearing 45

Your absolutely right you should never use spurs unless it’s necessary and when you need to use them it’s very important to understand the functionality of the spur and not just jab them into a horse I always make sure to use my leg signals first and if the horse doesn’t respond then I’ll softly place the spur on my horse to get a response. Thank you for your wisdom and your support very much appreciated.

Your absolutely right I rarely use spurs myself but I see a lot of people use spurs and instead of using them in a respectful way they automatically go to kicking and jabbing at the horse expecting them to be comfortable with it and to me that’s just cruel if I’m gonna use spurs I want my horses to understand that I’m not going to hurt them at all and allow them to be at peace with it whenever I do roll one on them but everything we do with horses must start from the ground up that way you leave no gaps in your horsemanship thank you for your wisdom very much appreciated God Bless
