This video's fantastic. I've always wanted to use Azgaar's but it just seemed so insanely complicated I never tried to touch it. This is a phenomenal breakdown and I'm gonna play around in the software ASAP!
So glad I could find a tutorial on Azgaar, hopefully gonna try recreating the world from Guardians of Ga'Hoole with this!
OMG you've given me so much to work with! I have my own roleplaying map done by hand and i wanted something to make it look better. I was going to go with inkarnate but wanted to give azgaar a try since it looked cleaner and now you've just casually given everything i wanted! So great, thank you for your videos!
I came across this generator a few days ago and was really impressed, but haven't played with it much yet. I was surprised when you mentioned that names are generated according to the culture. When I was looking at a few maps, it seemed to me that they were all completely random, or generated by someone banging their head on the keyboard.

The namebase generator in an incredibly unique tool with occasionally very funny or nonsensical generations. My Part 3 video covers cultures and their effects in a little more detail as well.
i can't believe how much detail is in this! I've used the map generator before and loved it but THIS.... omfg Thank you so so much for the tutorial! This is epic
These were so helpful and got me hooked on using Azgaar, thanks Bepis!
Very thank you. I tought it was just a random world generator. You just changed my whole perspective of this software.
Brilliant tutorial for a brilliant tool. Thank you very much!
Fantastic video, it gives a perfect synopsis of what the generator can do at a glance. A friend of mine showed me this to help me make more fleshed out areas in my dnd settings, since as you put it it can be tiring placing hundreds of small towns. Thanks a lot for this, I'll certainly be showing it to all of my other friends who'd need it.

Thanks for the support! I got the inspiration 3 years ago to make my own world, utilizing my love for history and just making maps and timelapses as a hobby. Since then, it has evolved into the seat of a D&D campaign, and I hear many others use it the same way. Anything that you can apply maps to, you can use this program for.

@IsBepis

Does mouse wheel not work for zooming in and out? You should be able to zoom with ease. There are certain types of generation which leave off some of the map intentionally rather than creating full continents.
By the way, you can use this on your phone. It's clunky but you can
Fun fact: If you erase the full map and finish customizing you'll have the perfect map for a cluster of islands
I've started using this program a couple days ago and I'm really liking it so far. I've got one question though. When you save the map using the "Machine" option, does it save directly to your computer's hard drive?

So sorry for the delay in response! I'm unsure what you mean by white lines around the landmass. Cells should respond to the presence of a river or not, and relief icons and biomes should act accordingly.

Is it possible to give the borders of the landmass and randomize the height map keeping the coast lines?
@IsBepis
Жыл бұрын
There is no straightforward way to do this but I have some ideas: First is to use the templates editor, which takes a bit of technical know-how but may be more accurate to true randomization. Second is to paint the outline of your heightmap the normal way and then use the disrupt brush along the interior. Third is to use the Taklamakan heightmap preset and then carve your coastline into it.
Hey, i was wondering if there is an easy way to add/remove specific relief icons. - I only want mountains, not the tens of thousands of other items it spawns cause it will take an age to manually remove them even with the brush delete because the number of them turns it into a slide show.
@IsBepis
Жыл бұрын
The best option is to the use the paintbrush icon on max settings to delete all other icons. I would recommend turning off all layers except for relief to minimize the lag. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a better way.
Checking it out right now. Seems like the maps generated for my part differ slightly from what I see in your video. The water seems to be visible through the landmasses so I never get any solid land to show up.
@IsBepis
2 жыл бұрын
So you're not getting any land to generate? It is random generation so everyone's maps are gonna look different in shape. There's also plenty of styles under the "options" tab which might make your map appear visually different. It's hard to say, let me know if any of that helps or not.

is there a way to add a border around the perimeter of the map? like if you wanted there to be trees or something?
@IsBepis
Жыл бұрын
Like on the edges of your screen? At the moment, no, though if you want to add trees yourself, you can do so via adding relief features. Granted, the map doesn't actually have any border, it is really just the same size as your screen.
do you know if the names that it generates are random names or related to d&d or somthing like tht. i love some of the names and wanna use it for my story but scared that its used in other things.
@IsBepis
Жыл бұрын
The names are generated from Namebases (which you can find under Tools section). They work by taking in input and combining inputted words together to form new ones. So you are free to use all the names you see, even the ones from my videos lol. Most of these namebases are historically based, (some are based on the classic fantasy species like Elves, goblins, etc.) The inputs are real names of cities and locations, but they generate completely new and original names from them. For example, the Greek namebase has Macedon and Antioch, and but you'll see on a generated map a name like "Antidon". Only thing of note is that I have seen the same names generated before. For example the generator really likes the name "Inzburg" somewhere when using the German namebase. Still, you are perfectly free to use all the names given to you. Apologies for the delay in response!

Have you tried placing it anywhere on your map? There can sometimes be limitations, such as you cannot place a new country in the same cell as another country's capital, and you cannot place a country where there is no culture or population present. Otherwise, it may be a glitch - try refreshing your browser. Clear cache if that doesn't work. If the problem persists, I would suggest asking and providing further details in the discord.
How do you add a label on the map? Like, add a name or something. Is there a textbox option or something??

For JPG, PNG, and SVG filetypes, you can only import through the heightmap image converter. You can only directly load .map filetypes into the program, which you get when you save your map to machine.
Hey bro. For some reason i can't figure out why one of my states has a bunch of provinces and the other has none. Also one state has the full name of the Council of while my kingdom state instead of being called Kingdom of, its just called by its name. Can you help me out
@IsBepis
Жыл бұрын
Provinces are mostly determined by how many you set in Options, size of a state, and how many burgs it has. It may also be influenced by the government type, populations, or culture? Regarding the naming, the generator automatically chooses which form to fit the space for the state. Every state has a long name and short name which you can edit via the States editor. If a state is smaller, it will more likely use the short-form name, but you can edit what it uses and override this.
is there an eazy way for a state to annex another state without having to redraw the Provinces?
@IsBepis
Жыл бұрын
There is no direct feature other than state painting. What I normally do is paint over one state entirely with another (excluding the Capital because it won't let you) and then deleting the annexed state. Provinces should be kept in tact and even transferred to another color. The only change you'll need to make is with the former state's Capital Cell.
So is there a way to have the style much more easy to read like this? the current one is all glass and see through detail.

i have a pretty good pc and cant go over 20k cells. how do u go for 60? is it the browser or the ram? why can u do this?
@IsBepis
10 ай бұрын
That one's still a bit of a mystery. Definitely has something to do with your browser version and browser ram. I've started using Opera because I can mitigate ram directly and it seems to have helped a little bit. Lag might also be attributed to which layers you have turned on (at the moment, relief icons and labels tend to generate the most lag). Try using more cells with no layers on and see the threshold you can handle. Part of it is also just having to put up with some of the lag unfortunately.
Hi nice video I would use azgaars fmg a lot I kinda understand how to use its just its laggy for me. I have a pretty decent laptop that can run some high quality games but for some reason azgaars fmg really lags me out and when ever I zoom in or move the map it has like a 5 second delay which is really annoying. So I would appreciate if you could give me some suggestions on how to clear the lag thanks.
@IsBepis
Жыл бұрын
On my main map I have also been facing recent lag. Always check layers - relief is often the laggiest, followed by points number, and then different style types. If turning those off doesn't improve much, "labels" layer has been giving me a lot of issues as well.
So I literally tried to reproduce all of the settings he had ( and I do Mean ALL of them ) but every time I try to make my own map, after I draw the new map and finalize it, it disappears and I'm left with nothing but ocean... insidiously blue ocean. I've even tried just editing the random map I'm given and still, poof gone.
