To me the memory ram indicator is pretty accurate, or at least it is on my Odin Lite. When playing Skyrim on Skyline Edge you can see the indicator reaching 100% after a few minutes causing gameplay lag and the app to crash.

Got the ayn odin 2 Max version in white, all i can say is, the device is unique, I play switch and ps2 games on it via yuzu and aetherSX2

where do you download the switch games?

how did you get the B button mapped to jump and Y bottom to attack on blasphemous 2? I can't get it right and I just can get used to having different control as there is no bottom mapping in yuzu. Great showcase of those two killer machines

In Settings app, Odin settings, did you switch your buttons from “Odin” to “Xbox”?

Damn, at least you got a few games working. Mario kart won't even load for me it just crashes and takes the whole system with it

Out of curiosity, could the SWAP ram issue be fixed by an update or is it a hardware issue? If it's hardware issue, then we are screwed 😅

I’m reading on the Discord that it is something that might need a full format of the internal storage. Nothing confirmed yet but to me it’s not a hardware issue.

It's Linux, swap requires it's own partition and install config. If your stock Android doesn't have it, you probably need a complete reformat and custom install. There are tools to adjust partitions live, but this is on Linux. Supposedly this was possible on older Android with proper tools, but newer Android is so locked down. This is something the Android firmware people need to address, but frankly none of them care outside of Google Pixel. The company itself likely won't do it, because they're deliberately segmenting their products. There's all kinds of tweaks for Android, but they're not done on purpose to sell segmented products, and the Android hackers have done nothing to make modding easy for normal people. You either understand Linux or you can't do anything with it.

I am totally new to all this as well as new to android but I have been really craving old school retro gaming. I am one of the original VR gamers, been doing it from 2014 with the DK2 then onwards to present and still really loving it but im thinking of a new hobby and needed a little down time from wearing a headset and this is it. I just ordered the Odin 2 before I have seen this video. This is the first Video I have seen after watching many other video's on this product and its the first I have seen with this many problems you are having. Should I be worried? hmmmmm

Just to catch you up, there is a community fix for this issue (I have some videos testing this) and an official fix has been promised in December. However, I don’t think you need to worry at all if you are just using this device just for retro gaming - 8GB is definitely enough memory for playing PS2 or Gamecube games (or below). I had a DK2 as well back in the day and have good memories of the desk with the plant and lamp on it as well as the rollercoasters. Welcome to the channel!

Is this a base model issue or even for the pro Odin 2? I was almost ready to order 😅

Yes, but there is a community workaround for this now (see description of kzread.infooffTfM-oKDk?si=CZ-ThfgDtDh0YwON) and ayn will issue an official update in December.

I ordered the base model and do want to play some switch. Can I ask if they fixed this? I see the videos a few months old. Wish I got the pro now☹️

It definately improved things but I think there will be a few cases where the Pro is still better than the Base. Zelda games for example.

And here im waiting for my base model to come cause i didn't want to pay extra for the pro. This video was great, but geez the base is not looking good at all. I wouldn't expect it to play mario wonder or newer switch games, but feeling like i may have made the.wrong choice...Hope I'm wrong and they can fix this soon

They have a new update today that did not improve much but promised something more in December. At least they acknowledge there’s some work to do.

I just want to confirm - PS2 and GameCube emulation works perfectly with the base model?

Yes, it works good for me. There’s some crashing issues on Gamecube but they can be avoided by using OpenGL setting instead of Vulkan.

Could you test Winlator version 2, it's as you can guess, a Windows emulator, which with better drivers, would play quite powerful PC games.

I don't think you can use egg ns unless you have a gamesir controller

Can you test more Switch games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom?

Genshn impact would be bad for the pocket air as it use about 6GB of ram

Am I missing something sounds like you're making a missing swap file seem like there's a hardware issue. This should be a simple firmware update. It's implementing a swap file harder on Android than it is on Windows?

Also I'm not an Android dev but using the flash as a page file depending on how often the OS has to go to it, will ware the flash out faster limiting the lifespan of the device might be a reason to go for the bigger one like I did I got the max. Not sure if Android 13 has trim support My bed is chat GPT has the answer.

Hopefully it is as easy as it is on Windows! I honestly don’t know how hard it is to turn on the swap file on Android.

Only way they can fix this is by implementing SWAP or ZRAM for the 8gb model.

I'll break down all the marketing now, but switch emulation doesn't take up more than 6GB of memory in the heaviest games. This problem was resolved back in 2020. When they sell you more than 8GB for Android, it's just like throwing away money.

@@DTGofficial The pro only makes sense if you want a different color. Because of the memory there is definitely no point, save your money for a new model next year.

You have a good point. At the rate these devices come out, there could be something new available by the time they fix the software.

@@forthenext You just don’t need to perceive devices from China as branded consoles. The life cycle of Chinese devices is often shorter than the warranty period. They haven't sold the current device yet and are already releasing a new one. That’s why it’s very funny when people talk about the future, as if it were a steam deck, which has its own ecosystem and Valve is constantly working to improve the software.

You must be more informed than the yuzu developers to claim that. Go take a look at their android specs requirement page.

Give the frontend RetroX a go - only 2 drawbacks, has to be connected to WiFi at all times, and costs money to a subscription, but sets everything up for you easily, just add games, and tell it where they are, boom all artwork and uses cloud backup of all save state's and save games. Even downloads the emulators for you, and sets them all up.

Try out some ANDROID games: N.O.V.A 3…. SAMURAI 2 vengeance… MODERN COMBAT 3 or 4 or 5….🤓🤯👌👌👌

Still not seeing how using storage for as ram with an Android device is good for the storage space. Ram and gated storage are not the same- storage is way less resilient.

What you stated is 100% correct but with the RAM restriction of the lower 8GB Base Odin2, we need this functionality to stop games crashing outright when we try to load them.

@@forthenext Android though will attempt to constantly use those “ram” addresses in some fashion. Android is a different beast from x86 and iOS based ram utilization. If want to play Switch, getting the 12GB seems a better fit. Perhaps folks doing this will be okay, so never know.

The ONLY game I can run on my Base on Yuzu past the the loading screen is Mario Kart 8. Every other one the reviewers tried crashes when in game from those I've tried - Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe, Metroid Dread, Mario Wonder. Really disappointed so far

Sorry to hear it, this is my experience too with Switch. No reviewers got Base models so we only found out when the retail versions were sent out.

Dont know what's going on with this mate but seems they are definitely prioritizing KZread over everybody else for this device i got my pro early September and not even had a shipping noti yet 👎 so far especially when it alot of money to alot of people and struggled to buy it early to get it early 💯💯🏆💚👊

I paid for my Odin2 Base on 22nd August and I was number 13 in the order list. I also live quite close to their offices so I received mine very quickly. I did not get any preferential treatment.
