    they told me at the local stereo shop I needed one on my 08 civic for my Jensen vx7020 I just bought. I found the two wires in the civic connector, one brown and one pink were for the swc. I hooked one to the Jensen swc white and one to the Jensen swc ground. programmed controls and works perfect. saved a hundred bucks they wanted.

    To sum it up.. 5 wires will be used. On ASCW-1 Red: to ignition power wire Black: just ground it anywhere Black 3.5mm wire: plugs into back of HU(SW jack) Plug the black antenna wire w/blue remote wire into after market HU and then plug to stock antenna harness. Blue wire not used Red & Gray wire: tap into green and red on stock harness. On Stock Harness BROWN WIRE on the stock harness where the green and red wire is located? Tap that wire and just ground it to a ground anywhere. All done. Also the two wires referenced at the end are not related to the green and red. They are the negative and positive for the stock subwoofer.

    The only wire that needed a jumper was the the green/red from the Honda harness. The others, simply used on the metra or scosche harness, black to black ground, brown wire when connected to the M or S harness is blue and that one goes to the same ground used for the HU, either harness or chassis, no need to tap in to the factory harness 3 times,

    hi there, congratulations, excellent videos! one question for you is that, do you still need this conector for a navi upgrade on a 2006 ridgeline? I would like to upgrade but not sure what will need beside the double din dash. cheers thanks!

    Great video. I'm installing mine on a Pilot and the instructions say "Connect Pin 11 of the vehicle to chassis ground (you can use the same chassis ground the black wire is connected to)". Did you have to do the same and if so, how exactly did you do that?

    Thanks for the video. Question....the part when you are showing the directions and the harness connector....were those directions specific to your vehicle? Aka, the web page you were reading through you navigated to for your vehicle? Or were those general directions for the Axxess / all vehicles?

    Only the one wire needed to be spliced the the factory harness (the green and yellow) the others could have been spliced into the radio harness.

  • @akindofyoga
    @akindofyoga9 жыл бұрын

    Axxess makes vehicle specific harnesses for the ASWC. I got a vehicle specific harness for my Camry, so I was able to leave the factory harness alone. If you don't get the special harness, I'd recommend splicing the power and ground from the wire going to the radio plug, rather than the one going to the factory harness. That way you only have to splice one wire in the factory harness.

    So you're saying you'll have two sets of vehicle interface harnesses then (one for the steering wheel controls and one for the aftermarket radio)?

  • @akindofyoga

    @akindofyoga

    9 жыл бұрын

    Exactly. One harness was the special harness for the ASWC that connected to the car's steering wheel controls. The other was the regular harness to hook up all of the other connections to the radio.

  • @Browningate

    RogerIyengarDotCom Or you can just chop into the vehicle's connector for the steering wheel control interface and just use the one harness for the radio, like what was done in the video.

    ***** I would rather pay $10 for the steering wheel control harness and leave my factory wiring alone.

  • @Browningate

    RogerIyengarDotCom Makes sense. You're saying that the harness has a female connection for the vehicle's connector and ends in a male connection to connect into the female plug of the aftermarket radio's harness? It just sounds like a lot of cabling in a cramped space to me, but if it's what has to be done, that's fine.

    At about 3:13, you said you had a couple wires that had to be connected. Which ones were those, and what did they go to? Were they the brown and brown/white wires? So far I've done everything the video said to do, and the controls didn't respond at all. I have an 06 Ridgeline, and the wiring setup has looked exactly like your video. Please help. Thanks!

    So what you are saying here is that the Brown is not an actual ground wire, you need to jump the black wire to the brown wire to give it ground correct! Then the brown wire sends the negative to the steering wheel and the steering wheel controls with it's resistors send back the information back through the green/red wire to the Databus! The way I understand this is that the black wire on the Metra is getting tapped twice (One for the Axxess Black Wire), Two ( For the Brown Wire on the Factory Harness), Green/Red from factory to the Grey/Red on the Axxess, Red Wire from Harness to Red Wire on the Axxess Red. Correct me if I'm wrong please!

  • @dossegundos7145
    @dossegundos714510 жыл бұрын

    Correction based on what I stated 2 posts before, the blue wire and pin next to the red one on the Metra harness needs to be moved to the bottom to make sure it connects to the honda brown radio remote wire, then simply ground the wire on the metra harness side to the same ground used with the new radio.

    Good tut. But I can't stand when people needlessly cut into factory wiring. On a radio install it can always be done with out touching the factory wiring. If you need more wires for SWC buy 2 harnesses and pull wires out of one to put in the other Or if you have an old harness laying around do the same. That is my only gripe with videos like this.

    DigitalErra It can't always be done. Even when they make a harness, it often doesn't contain every necessary wire, especially on premium OEM systems.

    It's too bad the ASWC-1 is so hit or miss. It doesn't work about 60% of the time. Yes, it worked great on a Ridgeline I just did, but won't work at all on a Harley-Davidson, even with the Metra pre-wired harness. And don't bother asking them why their pre-wired harness for the ASWC-1 is wired completely different from how they instruct you to manually wire one. The Hayley uses five control wires on the ASWC in addition to power and ground, plus two resistors and those wires are completely different in the manual instructions and the pre-wired part.

    I followed the instructions exactly and it didn’t work. What the video doesn’t explain is that you might need to do perform extra steps depending on the radio being installed so visit the website for instructions specific to your radio. I have a Kenwood radio that required use of an additional wire.
