Axis Pumpfoil Speed and Performance Testing | 1180 & 1150

In this video the Axis 1150 and 1180 are speed tested with two types of rear wings. How much influence does the rear wing actually have on performance?

I have the same rears for my 1150 and 1401. I couldn’t do a dead start on my 1401 with the skinny. It was just too pitchy. Once I put the 460 on my 1401 with the short fuse it worked great. I will have to play with the skinny on the 1150. Thanks!

Interesting! I've only used the 1401 with the skinny so far, but I have been blown away by how user friendly it is. The testing has gone better than expected so far!

Just had a dock start session and I remembered what the issue was with my initial 1401 dead starts. It wasn’t the skinny rear. It was the Advanced + short fuselage. Switching to the regular short made it easy to push off and glide without it pitching down. I tried the 460 with the 1401 today. It is so stable and requires so little pump to move. Rock solid haha. Was having a hard time carrying speed around turns though.

@@AndrewKauf Ah, that makes sense! Perhaps the skinny rear would help with the speed around turns?

Would anyone like to see a duration test with the 1150, 1180, or 1310 and one of these stabs?

Yeah. Good idea. My bet is 1150, 1310 and then 1180. I‘d go with a skinny on the 1310 and a medium sized progressive on the 1180 (400/425) if it’s about duration only.

@mistersuperstoked Interesting take! I only have the 460 and 50 Skinny right now, but perhaps a progressive would be a good addition.

I’ve only got two pump practice sessions with my 1180 with a 350 progressive. Coming from a 425P I felt that the 350P was more loose but easier to climb up the mast. I have a 360 skinny I’d like to try on both my 1180 and 1150. Great videos dude 🤙

I haven't tried the progressives yet, but I did try the 460 with the 1180 and found that the skinny made it alot easier to climb and pump. Let me know how you like the skinny with it!

Im enjoing your videos and waiting for my axis wings to arrive. Wondering what specific wing your' calling the "skinny"? I have an 1150 on the way with a 440, 390, and 360 rear foils. Any thoughts on which set up to try out 1st?

@MaxPayneLane Glad you're enjoying the videos! The skinny I use is the 362/50 and I love it. I've only used the skinny 50 and the 460 pump, but I would say go bigger first for the stability and powerful pumps. Do you have any experience on other gear?

@@FoilFanatic42 I have a 76 hover glide that I started surfing the wake on my boat this year with. I just bought a hover glide quantum 100 before I found a deal on the axis wings. I took the quantum 100 out once and was able to surf the second wake for several minutes. I'm not good at pumping while off the wake but I have managed to recover with a few quick pumps when I strayed too far from the wake.

@MaxPayneLane Sounds like you're getting the hang of it pretty quick! The axis gear will accelerate your learning by a lot due to its efficiency.

Great vids! Been learning basic foil balance skills on a Naish 2000cm with Foil Drive. Planning to switch to Axis foils and learn flat water pumping using FoilDrive to get up rather than dockstart. I’m thinking 1180 + 425 + Black Short. I’m 70kg. Thoughts? Doable? I know PNG would be more friendly but I don’t want to get into a red fuse if I can avoid. Also 1180 has more application to winging & downwinding, which I will do. Your opinion on learning pump with 1180+4xx?

If you have basic foil experience then the 1180 is definitely doable, especially with foil drive. I know that the 460 would help when learning with the 1180 for stability and ease of pumping (lower frequency). A a progressive tail would probably work as well based off what ive seen in the forum, but my experience is limited to the 460 and skinny. Having foil drive to learn will really help speed up the process though!

Curious how the 1180 works with the 460?

Going to be doing that soon as well! I imagine that it will have a slower pump cadence and more stability in roll.

For wing foiling I use the 1180, 1100 sf primarily. Using a 475p, 375p and the biggest skinny. I find the 475p is extremely stable going through wind chop rolling surface waves and is far less pitchy. As you go to smaller stabs the sensitivity to pitch and the effect of surface chop increase dramatically. Some additional drag that is hard to notice when winging but the added stability makes it worth it. Now if wake foiling or surfing ocean waves the smaller stabs help the carve and the pitch sensitivity is less noticeable since you are in a more powerful and consistent ground swell wave than heavy surface wind chop.
