We got this version and it’s the only version I’ve played. The thing I’ve noticed is that if the allies can survive the initial onslaught, their economies become unstoppable towards late game. Germany has to take the English Channel or build a factory in France in order to prevent d-day, and japan has to build a factory in Manila to force the US to split it’s pacific forces. Once the allies get organized, it’s over for the axis just based on IPCs

I have the 2008 Anniversary Edition. The only thing is that, it is well made and presented that I don't want to dismantles the parts and pieces! And this has collectors value!

I hear ya. Wish I would have bought the 2008 edition. I'm curious how this release will effect its value.

Hey Gijoe, It is interesting looking how other players take on this new revised edition of AnA50. For first time players dedicated to AnA40, it may be hard to adjust to play this version, but to own a copy for the first time, it's worth to add it to the collection. Great game though, pre AnA40, challenging and original pieces. Jon

Always good to have different perspectives and viewpoints when it comes to things like reviews and un-boxings. I had forgotten to even talk about the box shape and weight(I think net weight was 9 lbs). Realized also that I did not even flip the setup cards over to see stuff on the back. Good job, everyone adds their own flavor and opinion!

I'm not sure if you guys were aware of this but IL did a printable copy of the map years ago. It's not exactly the same print but the territories and parameters are the same. The good thing is, like your G-40 maps, you can print it off any size you want. I'm going to play the game a couple of times first before I decide if it's something that I want to spend money on. Here it is; www.mediafire.com/file/mhmjmln0wqj/AA50+non+editedable+final.pdf

The global is impressive, and makes game geeks weep with joy at the mere sight of it laid out (at my age, I haven't had those strong tingly feelings for a while!), but for simple playability one must go with the anniversary edition. Global is very complicated, and lacks the play aids that make anniversary easier. A lot of "stumble and stutter time" is built into each turn, particularly as the rule book must be consulted constantly to see political restrictions and national objectives, for lack of quick reference cards as provided in anniversary. Global is more restrictive in allowing the players to make war when, and against whom, they chose, presumably in trying to stick with an actual historical timeline. The US isn't allowed to go to war for the 1st four turns. And the concept of neutral nations is good in principle, but in practice is additional complication and headache. The national objectives are more achievable in anniversary. VERY IMPORTANT: An anniversary game can be played out to the end by anyone other than novices in 4 hours, or 6 hours with pizza break and the customary heated military discussions. Global; this is going to be a full day marathon, if you can even finish. Global is not very convenient for people with typical size furniture. My dining table is fairly good size and the global boards still overhang a little at the corners, and the battle board and boxes of pieces require supplemental TV trays. The much larger map area of global is offset by the plethora of new territories, making placement of pieces even more cramped than in the previous versions, particularly since some of the new pieces are larger than previous equivalents. By itself, global seems a little short on pieces and chips. Not a problem for someone who has 1942 Second edition, Anniversary Edition, and Global, but by itself it is a weakness. Irritating pieces if one is integrating those of previous editions. With new mobile AAA, every German artillery piece from all previous editions just became an AA gun. Italian battleships and cruisers are very hard to tell apart now, being close to identical in size and profile. On the other hand, the global introduced pieces that represent actual Italian aircraft instead of Japanese in just a different color. Global does introduce tactical bombers, and mechanized infantry without having to get them by random chance on R & D rolls. The escorting fighter rules from 1942 2nd edition were more realistic than the rule in global. A bomber shouldn't have an equal chance to shoot down a fighter as vice versa, and fighters escorting bombers to enemy targets should be vulnerable to flak also. The R & D rules are better in anniversary, as breakthroughs take time. In global, breakthroughs can be almost guaranteed each turn if you throw enough money at them. One major issue with anniversary, which is readily apparent in the product reviews on Amazon, is the quality of production. The large non folding map boards of anniversary often warp, and require constant pressing between games to keep them reasonably flat. But they do at least provide a large playing surface that will still easily fit on most tables, and territories that can reasonably fit a suitable array of pieces. Lastly, I generally don't get into recommending "house rules" for any game, but integrating the published rules for different editions of essentially the same game is an acceptable loophole. I recommend playing the anniversary with the fighter escort rules from 1942 2nd edition. And I will be integrating tactical bombers from global into my next anniversary game. Enjoy your play time with family and/or friends, and exercise your right to massacre your enemies! (ONLY in the game, of course.)

Maybe this question has been answered before, but my buddy and I are wondering the following: If Japan places a complex on Manchuria, or Kiangsu, and and Ally captures the land, does the complex just go straight to the box tray? Japan would have to buy a Complex every time Manchuria or Kiangsu were liberated, it would seem. Edit. Nvm. Lol.

Hey CODEwater. There are: 30 $1s 30 $5s 30 $10s The bills are much better than the ones from the old classic A&A. However, if you like paper money check out Siredblood’s custom cash. Excellent. I haven’t used paper money since I got my IPC chips from I Will Never Grow Up.

Hey Chris! Thanks for watching. The 2008 one is out of print and can only be purchased on eBay. It is expensive (probably a few hundred bucks). With this re-release coming out that cost may come down. You'll just have to watch eBay. This edition is pretty much spot on to the original one. Any differences are so minor I'm not sure it's worth spending $200-300 extra on it, but that's your call.

This is a reprint of the anniversary edition because it was such a popular ‘grail’ game. There are some very minor tweaks in this edition but rules are the same. It is not called the 50th year because we are no longer in the 50th year. I would suggest getting this reprint... unless your dad is a hardcore collector and wants the peculiar sculpts that came in the original.

What’s the point of the cash? I find that a pen and paper works 10x better. Maybe I’m missing something...

Since IPC can be carried over between turns, and you can collect an enemy's IPC by capturing their capitol, it cuts down the math. How much cash you have on hand is what you can spend. And as a play aid, it's just cool to have the cash. Sort of like plastic figures instead of cardboard markers. In the end, you paid for the game, it's yours, and whatever you like is what's best for you.

It’s A&A Global 40 (AAE40 and AAP40 combined), but using a custom printed map made by Young Grasshopper. It’s a one piece map with no creases/seams. Enhanced colors as well. I have a video talking about the printed map if you want to check it out. It’s called “Printing Grasshoppers Map”.
