Best option will be a mix of option 2 and 3. Use the transmission case of option 2 for 19.99 and the links of option 3 for 9.89 and also the foams for 7.90 , the cover for 15.99 , ending with a total of 53.77. Just 0.59 over the budget

Option 4 (modified option 3): Use one set of foams and cut them in half. That's what most of the SCX24 guys do. I run them like that in Scramblers and it works great. That frees up $3.95. Definitely keep the steering link upgrade. Ditch the alloy upper truss. Keep the rear diff cover. That leaves you with $23.35, so add in the alloy transmission case for $19.99. That leaves you with $3.36. Use a couple of cents from that to throw some grease in the stock shocks and maybe print out some pre-load spacers from Thingiverse if you need them.

Fun is spending hours making a fire extingisher with a 1/4 inch label and a little stick man pointing it even made the little diamond insignia, my little bungees made from pony tail holders look legit, I almost got the full kit, rifle, shovel, pick , tow rope, I might be a little obsessive. I got a Deadbolt with a creep body, SCRUB, Camo paint, Wranglers, Metal beadlocks brass knuckles, internal spring shocks, and a little lead on the servo and rear diff, I'm having a blast with mine.

I would recommend a mix of parts from Option 2 and Option 3: Option 2 - trans case ($19.99) ; Option 3 - steering links ($9.89) + CI foams ($7.90) + Rear cover ($15.99). Although it's slightly over the budget at $53.77, I think those changes are the most effective.

Your guys should do a budget build off with comp style flat rail trucks, start with a builder's kit, Axial, Element, SSD, or axle kit and trans (with a similar total price), and then the chassis kit.

Awesome content. I put in the steering links and the shocks. The shocks were prone to binding and took an afternoon worth of fiddling to get in, but SO MUCH BETTER than stock. Worth the cost and mucking around (heck - that’s the hobby, so all good!).

Great series 👏, as far as the shocks , I have pretty much tried them all . And for me the emulsion shocks actually work the best . I use a 40 w Traxxas oil . And there is dampening. And takes a lot of the bouncing down the rocky straightaway on our crawler track. If they are sticking they have replaced them for me . Much appreciated. Because when Done right these little shocks are smooth and with the light springs work great . I used mofo's flex blades with them and now they are made of aluminum along with his shock plate mounts also aluminum now . I also use a small washer in between the plate and upper shock mounts. To keep the shocks in line helps with any binding. I want to hear more about the tire foams and how well it works out on the rocks . I have always used the stock foams . And I do see how my Patagonia tires are looking very soft as our crawlers have gotten heavier over the months of mods . I like the tires you chose. We chose Patagonia because they don't rub and I hate rubbing 😒. And that they really work well . On our natural rock course. 🪨 they just stick and don't slip . And I have tried and spent money on a lot of tires that I just won't use . I always go back to Patagonia . Thus hobby with these scx24's is so much fun . I find myself working on them 7 to 8 hours a day 3 to 4 days a week . I'm retired and glad to have all my grandkids enjoying them . We have 7 now . Lol 😆 🤣

The steering link upgrade is a must, helped so much on mine. I’m super on fence with foams, running mine with those steelies and no foams, it stays air tight and let tyre comfort around obstacles. Shocks I want oil filled ones but they all seem a bit wonky, grabbed some power hobby knockoffs from Amazon with no seals for like a tenner and they work okayish for now. Portals seem hella cool but all the 24 need are cvd’s for sharper turning

Funny how so much has changed in less than a year. Now, we have alloy portal axles, brass portal axles, CVD's, universals, wide axles (+16mm), adjustable hub wheels, multiple models of 64mm tires, multiple comp style chassis with sliders and flat skids, better stock electronics, two new models of SCX24, and tons of other stuff. I know you don't want to do the same model twice, but I think it'd be a lot of fun to do another build-off using current parts, then test your old builds against the new ones.

I recently installed some Crawler Innovations foams, in the same configuration you suggested: soft front, med rear. I cut mine in half, so they were about 30% wider than stock. It still feels plenty supported, but the tire still flexes on extreme side angles. Time will tell how they last through water, as I run around the river bank frequently. The stock RC4WD foams were very degraded..

Option three but add the trans case and get rid of the trust

I would do option 3 minus the foams, add the trans case. Or just blow the budget and do the foams too!

I'd like to see a budget build off where you have to build a one off crawler with strictly off the shelf parts from a bunch of different makers, and maybe bonus points for *more* different makers.

Next build should be a 6x6 recovery vehicle. I would love to see the different styles you two would come up with.

Great build. I'd go with option 3 since it'll have the best performance for the dollar. How about no prep semis for the next build?
