Watching him perform this song is hilarious. Saw him live and half way through the song he almost tripped into the mic. Afterwards he saw how security was detaining people who were crowd surfing and said "You wanna take people from my show?" and divebombed into the crowd(though it was more like flailing). I think this song is a song about realization and disillusionment. There is just so much self-disappointment in this world. People who have hero's that they'll never be, kids who set sights on becoming something simply because there's a person out there that they want to be like, and if they fail at becoming that person, they feel like they, themselves are a failure, when there are other things that they would be so much better at. And in reality, not everyone needs to be big. I believe we tell our descendants the biggest and most damaging lie when we say "This world was built on the shoulders of giants." No, no it wasn't, this world has, is, and forever will be built on the backs of men and women. Do you think Isaac Newton would have been a great Physicist and Mathematician if he hadn't had a house? Do you think Albert Einstein would have been able to develop his Theory of Relativity if there hadn't been a school teacher to teach him the basics of Math when he was a child. Do you think Jack Andraka, the boy who developed a new and cheaper, and more accurate way of detecting cancer would have been able to do so, if farmers weren't around to provide food? Or if Seamstress's weren't around to make clothing? No, none of today's world would be here if it weren't for the working class. There are plenty of kids who have normal ambitions, but are told to bolster them, because if you aren't shooting for the top, it isn't worth it. But if everyone shoots for the stars, who's going to be left on earth? We should celebrate the Isaac Newtons, and the Albert Einsteins, and the Jack Andraka's of the world, but, in the same breath, we shouldn't forget about the unnamed brick-layers, construction worker, farmers and seamstress's of the world either, for they are the reason that the Newtons, and the Einsteins, and the Andraka's can do what they do.

***** Personally, I think that pertains more "The Status Quo" more than a dilemma of "Right and Wrong." The songs basest message is "The Status Quo should change." And I think the kids are the symbolism that not all changes can or will be good, but the fact that the Status Quo did changes is good in and of itself. Because the video could have just as easily been about the kids hearing this, and then throwing out their toys, instead of destroying them, donning business wear, and going to look for actual work, rather than the smarmy chores parent's tell their kids to go beg for money from other people by promising to do said chores.

I tried to find this song for 5 years and here I am😂 First saw this on my 3DS

This song just kicks ass. Too fantastic to be true how this guy comes up with so many really catchy songs. He is the greatest. I love RUN and some of his other new ones too. Thanks to that girl in the rain video my whole family got into awolnation and we went to Bilbao bbk festival just to see them. We left very high and didn't bother to hang around for the next event Radiohead who i found out later are very famous ! But anyway seeing awolnation makes up for all the missed opportunities i had to see all the great bands from the seventies but never got round to. Knights of Shame is an epic equivalent to a Mozart symphony.

This band is seriously SO good. I decided to listen through their discography & I could only get through the first two albums before I had to take a break because it was so powerful & emotionally overwhelming.

It means nothing it's whatever you want it to be ... i think once someone says they have the correct meaning to something other than an assumption i think it detracts from that theory.. there is no right nor wrong it's more of a personal meaning based on one's journey

AWOL is one of those bands that I always liked and then suddenly I look back and it's been like seven or eight or so years? Really freaking weird. And consistently good. It was always just song by song to me, but every single of theirs I have LOVED to at least liked.

My mom listened to this when I was growing up, I haven’t heard it in years but listening again hit me with a wave of nostalgia and forgotten memories
