I used to eat these as a kid Gareth... I must admit i quite liked them at the time... However, when i tried them as an adult years later... They didn't taste anything like i remembered them... It's the same with the Westler Tinned Burgers you tried the other day... I used to eat those too... I also had the Tinned Fray Bentos Meatballs... They just don't taste the same as when we were kids... Maybe it's just our taste buds that have changed over time... A bit like kids always hated eating their Vegetables... But as an adult we all quite enjoy them... Sometimes a memory of how good some foods tasted when growing up... Simply don't live up to expectations when we try them again years later... I remember as a kid... I used to love drinking Barr Tizer... Then a few years ago i saw some on offer in the supermarket... And i thought it would bring back some happy memories... So i bought them... But unfortunately they were a big disappointment... They should have just remained a happy childhood memory... Oh well it was a lesson well learnt... Thanks for the review Gareth... All the best... Cheers mate. 🍺

Best way to cook them is in the oven, I think you will find that its 210 deg for a fan oven, 230 is conventional oven. I used to like them, but they turned to mush, i've started getting home made ones from my local butchers, much nicer and then make onion gravy to go with them, delish!!

@@BaldFoodieGuy if you don't like offal you probably won't like them. I do remember them being a bit more 'dense' years ago but it's still an enjoyable meal when cooked for ages in the oven. I always take the lid off for a good while. I serve them with home made mushy peas and roast potatoes, maybe some savoy cabbage. I don't think they're bad at all compared with some of the things you can buy for the same price in the freezer section. I also love haggis though. To me this is good old British comforting wartime fare and I think that plays a part in why I enjoy it so much.

Used to eat these quite a lot when I was a kid (My gran used to make her own) and still have them now and again. Check out the fat, sugar, salt and carbs % and you'll see they are really quite healthy in comparison to some of the trash that is being marketed now. I know there are quite a few "E" numbers included in the recipe but they are mainly stabilisers. Not eating liver, kidneys and offal as a whole is turning people into wimps, liver has fantastic nutritional value, better than burgers and takeways. Liver does need cooking properly though as it can become very dry. If you just lightly braise liver in a rich onion gravy then it takes up the flavour and is lovely with heaps of creamy mash, or you could try lambs liver, a more subtle taste. 30 years in the meat trade taught me we should utilise as much of the animal that has been killed to provide our food.

Really amusing. I’m surprised that you cooked them in a microwave - big mistake. In an oven the gravy is more congealed and they tend to be crispy on the outside. When I called into Prince Charles’s butchers on the Poundbury ‘Brace of Butchers’ they had some hand made ones. I must try them. They reminded me of balls of Sage and Onion Stuffing. You really need to eat them with mash. My grandmother would cook them probably eaten during WW2.

My dear late partner, who was a Somerset lady, tried them with me once and said they were nothing like the real thing, she said the best ones are from local butchers in Somerset or home made.
This was a good one! Maybe you should do a short series where you really push the boundaries with some far out food tasting - starting with gourmet insects?

Really amusing. I’m surprised that you cooked them in a microwave - big mistake. In an oven the gravy is more congealed and they tend to be crispy on the outside. When I called into Prince Charles’s butchers on the Poundbury ‘Brace of Butchers’ they had some hand made ones. I must try them. They reminded me of balls of Sage and Onion Stuffing. You really need to eat them with mash. My grandmother would cook them probably eaten during WW2.

Cheers yes oven next time
They need heat over time to become soft, flashing in microwave will only make them hot. It was probably gristle that hadn't been broken down by cooking.
Hahaha! Had these as a kid quite liked them. One day I asked my nan what was in them and she said, the whole of the pig including the earholes and a'holes! Funny as but never ate them since. Good if you mix them up into your mashed spud and cabbage. 🤣

I absolutely love these, had them as a kid, still eat them, I would never microwave them though, invest the 55 minutes in the oven. Love the blogs.

Great video, I bet you are off Mr Brains Xmas card list LOL. As a Londoner I would love to see you having a go at one of my favourites, jellied eels, you can get them on line, and there's no cooking needed.

@@BaldFoodieGuy I moved my family out of London in 1972, I could read the writing on the wall (and I was right). Now live in the Lincolnshire countryside in a small village, and it's great, the only thing I miss is pie and mash and jellied eels but still get them on line. By the way, look me up on line when you get the time, Ron Ryan DC5 will get you there, and a Band from Leeds 'Hootenany' have just recorded an album of my songs, if you type in Hootenanny, The thought of never seeing you again, you can hear one of the tracks from it and it's selling quite well. I do like your videos, and might even write a song about you LOL good luck mate, and keep on the good work.
Perhaps they come from a different factory Oop North, Gareth. We love them. Strange how the comments are love/hate.

Thanks Gareth, another one to avoid then 😂 But yes, they were very popular when I was a kid, like others have said, with mash n peas a tasty tea. Like most things, not as good as the old recipe it seems. All the best 👍
