That is called a Tunisian stitch. The needle comes in different lengths with a stopper on the end. You can get an aluminum or bamboo needle with a regular length but is attached to a plastic tube of different lengths with a stopper on the end, similar to a circular knitting needle.

Love that stitch...I use a heavier cotton yarn and make pot holders/hot pads with that pattern! Your yarn and your work is beautiful! 🙂
