Today I had the chance to interview Petur and and Reynir from the Pax Dei dev team ahead of their early access launch. I tried to ask some difficult questions along with some fun questions. Pax Dei is a vast, social sandbox MMO inspired by the legends of the medieval era. Here, myths are real, ghosts exist, and magic is unquestioned. In this immense, open-world playground, you choose the role you want to play.

Thanks for the video! Im like 50/50 about getting Pax Dei in a couple of hours. Im just worried because 90% of the times I play solo. Also the game is nowhere near the state to be EA. Im so confused because youtube has a lot of videos with mixed reviews...

Great interview, but sorry excuse for a game. Their selling point is "Player Created Content", and that's just to cover their butts because it's an empty shell of a game not ready for prime time. RIP

@@nixutps I hope it grows up into a great game as well, but they are charging way too much for this empty EA building simulator, IMO. Much too early for EA and especially for what they're charging. Because of this, I don't think the game will survive. Hope I'm wrong.
Love this content - thank you SO MUCH for covering this game in such as thoughtful way. Sorely needed.

@@Danneh 💜 I have more faith in mainframe to make the MMO "we all want" than any other dev in my memory. Unfortunately the bar is so very low on that.
This sbould be mandatory watching for anyone who gives a negative Steam review.

Even having PVE caravans with high level enemies the periodically travel through the land would be SO fun to set up ambushes for.

Please could we play 12 hours early please? LOL.... I'm dying here... I love this video... and I love your van. I believe these developers are pure at heart and I will be here for the long haul.. Yeah, I get a good vibe from them, nice guys, good devs, I wish them luck with Pax Dei, lets hope the vision comes true!
I can see one area in regards to crafting that needs to be improved: - Although the crafting is in depth and amazing, I would like to know how they intend to differentiate different crafters. For example, if Im an armor smith, how can i differentiate my crafted armor to another armor smith? At the moment, everything you craft is exactly the same, there are no differences in either stats or cosmetic look of it. Meaning a person from Bronyr will always produce the same plate armor as someone from say Llydaw. My solution is for them to introduce variations such as using different metals to produce something of the same tier. For example, if bronyr has easy access to an abundance of impure iron, their weapons and armors should be more iron-centric. Whereas they can rebalance Tin, Copper, and Bronze into something on the same tier as Impure iron. Then, distribute these resources into the home regions whilst removing impure iron or limiting it, thus pushing smiths of that region to use Tin, Copper, and Bronze for weapons and armors, whilst keeping a small stockpile if iron for other uses. This creates a distinct difference between products produced in different regions cosmetically. A trader or adventurer will slowly learn that, for example, Llydaw is renowned to have copper weapons and armor, whilst Bronyr is renowned for having iron weapons and armors. Another plausible method without having to rebalance the entire distribution of ores, is to introduce cosmetic variations. For example, currently, all swords are straight swords. All armor are chainmail or plate. In my opinion, they should create different types of cosmetics by introducing different base reagents. If i want to make curved blades (scimitar, katanas, etc.), there should be a "curved iron blade", and using that instead of a basic "iron blade" would then produce a curved sword. Same could be applied to armor. Instead of using "iron wire" i could instead produce "Iron rectangular plates" and when using that, will convert my armor into lamellar armor instead of chainmail. One final potential solution is to introduce smithing masteries. The idea that as a smith, I have made over 100 chainmail gloves would make me a "master" as that type of gloves. meaning whatever chainmail gloves I produce would have an inherent slight buff. Heck you can even make the mastery system tiered. Master I, Master II, etc. Each subsequent buff provides a slight bonus to the stats of said armor. There are of course SIGNIFICANT drawbacks of this route, since larger clans would have an unfair advantage of producing one master smith, whilst other solo or small clans would be struggling to compete. Kinda why I think this might not be the best route to break the current homogeneity of crafts.

It would be cool to be able to imprint your sigil or brand onto that piece of equipment so as you sell to players the word will travel of who made it so players can come to your shop

You could release a game in that state in 2012 at the birth of early access. You just can't in 2024, especially with that type of pricing.

Fletching is it doesn't make sense as a separate profession, let him do it better Carpentry or Blacksmithing
7:07 ma honestly he's trying too hard to "do it I'm a unique way" there are so many systems they could get inspired from as they work PERFECTLY in the other game, by other game I mean Mortal Online 2, it has so many systems that pax dei really needs to adopt lol
I will say this, the game *has* potential hands down but also many questionmarks for me (and many others). Here are MY honest opinions and reasons to doubt on this game: Why should I play a building only game that has aweful combat, crafting and gathering animations, no bosses for a PvE focused game and where PvP is terrible designed? Once you re done building your town, then what? You can build your servers most badass town or just a 20x20 square house with a flat roof with chests, done. Same outcome. Yes you could say that about a game like MC too but atleast there's many more mobs and even plenty of bossfights and explore hidden caves. We got loads of building games already. It needs something special to stand out. Like why should I (Pax Pay) play this insted of MC or Valheim or that Hytale that is coming out? Ohh well. Back to Swtor again I guess once WoW SoD is over (if not sooner). I rather play a "dead" mmo like Swtor with my guild still intact with still fun PvP and good story content than this.

I think the idea has potential to become something great. The game itself has shown no potential as of yet. Important thing to differentiate
Combat/PvE Overhaul needs to be priority rn, they're losing so many potential players/buyers because of its current Combat/PvE state. The Gather/Crafting/Building mechanics(from what I've seen) are fair enough to leave on the back burner for a few months imo.

I couldn't agree more. The first hour of Valheim in Meadows is way better than whatever this game has right now, and that tells me this game might not get any better in a year... I hope I'm wrong but I think they really don't know why game like Valheim is really good.

First impressions are extremely important, take a look at New World! I think Pax Dei will have a small opportunity again in a year, if good progression is made on Combat and content in the lands, I think people will give it a chance, but not everyone will.

@@Danneh I never give unfair negative review for games, because I know how hard it is to make games. I even defended D4 when everyone started review bomb on first month, and D4 launch was actual barebone product. However, Pax Dei EA is way too early and still alpha at best, and they are making us pay full price. I'm a Japanese, so I pay in Yen, and the exchange rate of that makes the price higher than Elden Ring DLC even for the journey man pack... This just cannot be justified in any way shape of form. My take might be bit harsh, but honest, and hoping that they take our concerns and doubt seriously and use that criticism as a fuel to improve their legacy game. I want them to confidently tell us "Hey, you just wait! We gonna make you "want" to play our game in a year!" If they make good game people will happily pay money, but they can't expect us to believe anything when all they have to show is how pretty the UE5 graphics is and making us pay more than the price of Valheim EA.
The game has potential, but not ready for EA. It's merely a mediocre building/crafting game with no content. I hope they can fill it out as a real game.
When devs are banning people on the legitimate concerns of this heavily price game? Go away already Pax Dei. Get your refund now.
