    Great Vlog... whilst we were in Delhi I couldn't understand why so few tourists were using the metro... we went everywhere and saw all the sights from our base close by Karol Bagh Metro Station (The Pooja Palace Hotel, well recommended...) it`s so easy, so frequent and unbelievably great value... Suffice to say I fell in love with India on my first trip and can`t wait to go back to see more...

  • @death_parade

    @death_parade

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@shravan7623 One thing that I find really weird is that all of India's metros are different. The rolling stock is all being offered to different contractors and I think that is preventing some of the benefits of mass production from accruing cause right now, its batch production instead of mass production. Again, there are two different power transmission system types: 25kV AC OHE and 750V DC third rail. And then I remember that there was a controversy on the gauge of the tracks. Indian Railways uses Broad Gauge (1676 mm). So when the Delhi metro was first built, and the contractor was building it for Standard gauge (1435 mm), a group of railway officials protested against this move. As a result, Delhi metro was built on Broad gauge, just like the Railways. And everything was fine, but then some genius decided that it was a good idea to introduce another gauge and voila, now most new metros are being built on Standard gauge. Even the new high speed rail line from Mumbai to Ahmedabad is being built on Standard gauge technology. I don't get this. We can build space rockets and cutting edge weapons systems, but somehow, we were unable to invest in railway technology innovation. I mean look at Train 18. Its not like we can't come up with the technology for high speed rail on our own. We have enough technological base in the country to make it happen for Broad gauge. But we chose Japanese imports and Standard gauge anyway. Its stupid IMHO.

    @@rohitk.2209 I do know about BEML. They did not develop the rolling stock in-house. They got it from Hyundai via a Technology Transfer agreement. They supplied rolling stock for Bengaluru metro but it was as a JV between BEML and Hyundai. I am lambasting the lack of home grown technology. I prefer "Made in India" rather than "Make in India" which essentially depends upon import of technological know-how. I say we have the capability to create the technological know-how within the country. But we did not pursue this. At long last, some steps have been made in this direction and we are already seeing results in the form of Train 18, which although still based on foreign technology and consultancy, is a very Indian alternative to the likes of Talgo. However the most major step to further railway technological creation within India has been taken by this government, which is the setting up of a National Railway University. This will prove to be a major step if subsequent governments continue to fund and nurture this institution. A university is the correct kind of atmosphere required for the kind of research I am talking about.

    @@DivertLiving visit every part of our country. To do so u will have to stay here for your whole life. Show good and bad both. Don't eat from street vendors and stalls who are unhygienic. Stay alert always. Never kiss in the streets(it's not acceptable in our culture, though I wish to change that). If you need help just ask(never ask only from one person, ask multiple person). Never follow anyone strange. If u are in emergency dial 100, it's like 911. Wish you happy and Safe journey.
