No fancy feathers and wedges here folks, just straight up 1" rebar cut into a hand point and a set of wedges with grass feathers. This is the best video ever for anyone who works with stone. So much respect.

That is why many Archaeologists claim that Ancient civilizations were more advanced than most give credit for,.. They developed techniques like this YES by today's standards this way is crude and hard labor, but back in ancient times they did not have jack hammers & such, they had to to do with what tools they had or could ""invent" and make them work and did what it took to get the job done,,They advanced in their technology by adding to, or thinking & creating new ideas & ways of doing things just as modern day man does

I've been to Prambanan (Central Java). Probably volcanic rock. Looks almost like masonry cement (Portland cement & sand, but no gravel). Quartz would be much tougher to split. Typical safety rules for Indonesia, i.e. none. But he still has both eyes and 10 toes in the flip-flops, so must be good with the hammer and knows when to avert his gaze.

It looks so easy. It seems like they did not split rock, they split clay. But in real extreamly hard. Sory for my English.

If that were me I'd be like Dr. Smith in "Lost in Space". "Oh my aching back" These are some strong , talented, hard working men that know what they are doing. In the wimpy US they would be using heavy equipment with jack hammers and the blasting the boulders because few people know how to do anything manually anymore. I'm confused as to WHY they are making little rocks out of big rocks. It it just to make the stones small enough to be hauled off and disposed of or is it going to be taken by stone masons to be shaped and used on Prambanan Temple renovation? I know many are content with the stone spitting which was cool to watch but I like to know the reasons behind why things are done. I'm part cat.

Mostly they prefer to use powder, hydraulic tool and other modern equipment to do that. All that split stones are sent to the stone masonry, stone crafter and other specific stone company. True, some of this type stones are used for the temple renovation, of course they have to deal with the temple architecture expert. Thank you asking and watching my video, greeting from Java, Indonesia.

The Grass helps to Eliminate Bounce out, If you Hit the steel pins without the grass at the start they would halve a tendency to bounce out of the starter hole.
