My home town. I was brought up in New Plymouth. Beautiful. My two brothers still live there. My Dad won a helicopter flight over Mt Taranaki but he was too claustrophobic and couldn't get into the helicopter so Mum went instead. She loved it.

I lived in Taranaki for 50 yrs Tim. I recently moved to West Coast Buller S I in last 8yrs. I fly up to NP every 4yrs or so to visit family. I look for the mountain. Its an automatic response for a local. It draws you in somehow. Its a wonderful place to have grown up in.I find.I miss the mountain. Yes I've climbed Mt Taranaki. Also tramped several tracks and stayed up at the different huts. Lots of memories. Pouakai tramp was an amazing one. Wilkies pools, and Dawson Falls, eating lunch at its base. And Bells falls and many more. North Egmont at night after a snow fall reminded me of Silent Night Holy Night. All is calm all is Bright. The stillness, peace. Making Snow Angels. AWESOME! HAPPY CHRISTMAS TIM. Thankyou. Kia Ora.

Hello Eileen, I enjoyed your memories of time spent on the mountain, I did walk some of the way up, but nowhere near as far as you did, it really is a beautiful place, I especially liked the views from a rail cart along the old SOL Railway, heading in the Stratford direction. Thanks for the Christmas Greetings, I hope you have a good one too. Kia Ora.

Volcanoes. The last major eruption of Taranaki (also known as Egmont Volcano) occurred around 1854; the mountain dominates the productive farmland of the Taranaki region. The 2518 m tall cone volcano last erupted about 150 years ago at the culmination of several eruptions in the preceding few hundred years.
