Awase exploration in December, 1986 - Okinawa

Музыка

December 1986 - Exploring old stomping grounds in Awase and we found the house that our friends, Bob and Amy lived in back in the early 1970s. The "Pink Store" (Awase Grocery) was fun to see again. We found "Pig Farm Road" too. After dodging pot holes we wend our way to Rte 329 (old Highway 13) then to Rte 74 to Chibana, Kadena Circle and end up at our house in aza-Oki on the Yomitan Peninsula. A huge advantage of being a passenger and not the driver is that I was able to notice and record a lot of the day-to-day mundane scenes along the way. DOZO!

I am a local. I enjoyed your posted video with my 70’s parents. All my childhood memories came back with lots of joys and nostalgic feelings. We still live at that area. Some places are changed and some are still the same scenery. Your films are definitely valuable and treasure for especially Okinawa people! Thank you for sharing it here! I hope more Okinawa people find your videos. Great!!

Konnichiwa! Thanks for taking time to send me your message here. I'm happy that you found some good memories. I also hope that more of your friends will see my videos. Tell them about it! I have some from the 1980s and even a few - not very good though, but they're memories - from the 1970s. I do have tons of videos though from 2013-2019 so please have a good time watching them!

Wow...this is awesome. In 1986, I was in the 8th grade. Attending Kubasaki Highschool. Man, I used to get high on Bron, go to the Sega arcade by the McDonalds and play video games all day after school. My dad was a Major in the Marine Corps and we lived in Plaza Housing. My friends and I used to go to the love motels and break into cars and steal shit. Money, jewelry, etc. I was only 14 at the time. This really brings back memories. Thank you.

That's "Hotel Carnival" at 16:23. Although the area has changed a bit, many of those love hotels are still there in varying states of upkeep (and many hotel names have changed). I believe Hotel Carnival is now some sort of auto shop...which is a really weird place for an auto shop. Hotel Arcadia was mentioned...that's still there and I drove around it a few weeks ago...it definitely looks old.
