I see why people wish that her lyrics would go "more deep" into more stuff "than Love" but she also maybe was over labels telling her "what to do" and being through a 5 year break through lyme disease getting life and partnerships back on track Head Above Water not cutting it like they wished, I guess.....if you see Love Sux as a more guitar heavier Version of TBDT you might like it more than before. That's how I went.

When her My World DVD (Try to Shut Me Up Tour) came out it has an extra CD with “Why” on it, so it’s on the My World EP on streaming! She seems to live in an alternate reality, where the only problems people have are relationship issues. You would think at her age she would have matured a little more.

You’re entitled to your opinion on it, for sure. My take is that your assertion is a little unfair. Avril’s music has always had this identity. I think a lot of her fans look forward to her expression on the topics that she writes and sings about, as they have for the last 20 years now. For what it’s worth, Avril has never said that her later albums would have a broader reach. To me personally, I find this very authentic. She is an artist who is grateful to be supported by the industry and her fans in the present day for her just being herself. She’s pandered here and there, mostly because of the label she was signed with at the time, but otherwise has really followed her own voice. That’s why she seems so free and happy right now. Like so many artists who have succumbed to depression or addiction, Avril has managed to avoid those lows and has done her own thing and landed her where she is in 2022. Of course, feel free to disagree, but that’s my take. What’s awesome is how many fans on the Canada tour are here for her. It’s uplifting to see her concerts so well attended and with fans that go all the way back to Let Go. I’d think her US tour with MGK will be more of the same (along with Euro, Asia, and South America where she is beloved).

@@browngilll I understand what you're saying, man. My point was that she comes across as being self-absorbed, and doesn't seem to have much substance to her personality. It's like she lives in a pop star bubble, and doesn't have any awareness of what's going on in the outside world. Also, I find it annoying when she laughs at almost everything she says, like it's some kind of inside joke we're all supposed to be in on... I used to find her attractive, but I don't think I like her much anymore.

@@marcdellorusso180 To your point, I definitely get that. I’m still very much into her vibe, her energy, and her talent. I especially love when you can see in 2022 glimmers of the Let Go, Under My Skin, and TBDT Avril in her interviews because it’s the same person. But then if I go back and see her interviews from 2002, 2003, and 2004, I’m blown away by the teen and kid she was when she first blew up the scene. What an icon. Where you and I split is I’m able to adore and cherish the Avril of today for who and what she has become, but I totally understand where you’re coming from. For me, I’ve had to reflect and accept that Avril couldn’t remain the angry and moody teenager we all fell for in 2002. Like all of us, she grew up and became a young lady, then finally a full-fledged adult. As you’ve described, I think fame, wealth, and small town Canada to Malibu California has an effect on someone. It makes sense that you and I represent the dichotomy of fans that either could follow her or choose not to anymore. Regardless, I get your point now.

@@brentthompson1607 that is true. On this album cycle more than Head Above Water, there’s been a lot of “pop punk” thrown around, and she’s let it happen with regularity. I still think it isn’t a conscious strategy from Avril so much as a going with the flow, especially since DTA records has kind of owned the genre recently. When you say she has “conveniently” done so, I think that’s right.

She’s always had pop punk songs though-TBDT completely, her earlier albums had songs scattered around like he wasn’t, skater boi. Not a fan but this isnt a fair take.
