AVOIDING a REMOTE ID for your DRONE
Mark your calendars - on September 16, 2023 the FAA will require your drone to have a Remote ID...unless you fall into two strict categories.
What is Remote ID (Identification)? Well, a Remote ID is the ability of a drone in flight to provide identification and location information that can be received by other parties.

None of my drones have remote ID. None of my drones will ever have remote ID. None of my drones are DJI.
But DJI latest update for the Mini 3 Pro has remote ID. DJI says once it's installed, you can't uninstall it. This is a drone under 250g and for the recreational flyer, you're not mandated to have remote ID but DJI is forcing it anyway. Until they stop this, don't buy DJI drones!!

A little too big brother for me! And I was not aware that the remote ID could not be uninstalled. The govt is taking the fun out of it.
Just carry a less than 250 g drone with you at all times and if the cops come all you do is switch it you’ll never know the difference
Haven't updated yet and waiting for a Remote ID mod/hack. I think its bull$hit... If Im flying my Mini 3 (less than 250grams) drone away from others for scenery videos, it's no one's business.

I stopped updating years ago. There's apk files on Google where u can pick any software instantly for free
I was hesitant to go the DJI route since someone told me years ago, the fine print you signed means, DJI (China) owns your drone footage rights. Now the forcing Remote ID on

I know what you mean ... I flew a drone ALOT a few years ago (before I did youtube stuff) and loved it. Just did it for fun and family home movies. Have a DJI mini 2 now and wanted to upgrade - until I heard about the forced remote ID. I'm now conflicted...

@@traveleaz Someone will come up with a hack to disable/cripple it.. Waiting to find that.
Anyone seen a hack /mod to disable Remote ID or strip out that section in the firmware?

oh that is a great question - personally, I have no idea but I'm sure one or more are to come.
Where to get those non remote ID drones? Mini 3 is now bugged with it :(

It's not too hard to learn to build one. I've built four of them now, so feel free to toss me questions if you're interested.
However, if you follow say AMA's CBO safety guidelines, you cannot fly over people. Under FAA rules, states something about non-sustained flight over people are allowed...but...to stay in Category 1, will need to have propeller guards which then pushes the weight of the mini 3 over the 250gm limit and will need to fall into Category 2 with other hoops to jump through. I guess fly now till September 16, 2023 when government will potentially ground recreational flying (i.e. no identified FRIA and no RID module, then cannot fly?). These rules are creating more stress for the hobbyist and might kill the hobby.

Your last sentence nailed it. So many people I know are now reluctant to use their drones - just not worth the bother (their words)
Does the mini 2 have forced remote ID software?

This is a good question needing a good answer. I have not recently got a software update to my mini 2 - so I cannot be certain (but I don't think it has the forced remote ID YET).
