Floral dresses in summer are timeless. Just choose the right color combination and silhouette and you'll be fine

True, but she has point about there being too many details, and on top of that a print, you might have too much going on.

Great video Lydia! Of course everyone’s choice of clothing is different but I’ve learnt from you that by picking something more basic or neutral means you’re able to dress it up or down, or change the look by adding a belt or different accessories and that way people don’t realize you’re wearing the same dress!

The key words of the video "It іs just not my style". We are all different, and it is great 😊 I wouldn't like to live in the world where everyone dresses in classic style, beige-blue- black stuff 😂 BTW, caftan dresses in bold colours suit Asian women so much more than white/beige classic dresses that Lydia appreciates so much 😅

I like to go for Fashion inspiration to Italy. And they wear everthying, simple, prints, florals, colors. It never feels outdated or cheap, they focus on basics, always good quality materials. And me personally, I like some good floral dress for the summer, it just feel right ☀️🌸

I am french and just now in Italy on holidays. I have to say how right you are, women (and men) are so much on colors and prints here. I like this much 🤩 and I don't think they are not elegant or stylish, on the contrary. The only print I hate but see a lot here is the leopard one, often in combination with wild others and very very colourful. It's Roberto Cavalli's style but I think it always looks cheap to me.😮

I’m wearing prints for first time this summer. There are some really pretty dresses out right now. I would have missed out if living by fashion “rules”. I also enjoy some boho pieces. When you hit your 60s style is all about self expression. I’ve got nobody to impress. I don’t care how long my clothes last. My style changes season to season. That’s the fun of fashion.

I love the looks of your chosen dresses - but unfortunately I'm unlikely to buy any of them, for one of two reasons. Firstly, most have either thin straps or some asymmetry on top, and the idea of having to wear a super tight strapless bra in summer is incredibly off-putting. In fact, it would be great to have your take on this - what sort of underwear do you recommend for tops like these? Secondly, because these are mainly natural fabrics (great!), and are usually not patterned, I worry that unless they are ironed to perfection, they will look like rags after the first wash. I hate ironing (also, I don't have the time for it, plus it's bad for the environment), so the idea of a plain white cotton maxi dress fills me with dread!

Good examples of what you would not wear, which seems to be most with ornaments, boho, bright colours or different colours than beige, white, grey or black. But as many others we love colour and boldness, so we would definitely buy that, maybe not the exact examples, but in general colour, patterns and to stand out... beige and neutrals wash out so many skin tones ... simple have it's place, but so does bold ? 😊 But thanks for sharing you preferences and good examples for simple and stylish clothes.

I admire your fashion sense. Watching your videos now in my mid 40s. I thoroughly enjoyed my younger years wearing prints, florals, full on colors and styles that suited me. It's been a few years since I've started to wear neutral colors and classic styles because personally i cannot tolerate too florally dresses now. I'm treading the thin line between dressing my age and trying not to look older than my age. Classic styles tend to make one look older.

Hi Lydia. I totally agree with your pieces to avoid buying. I love boho but the style doesn’t have to be full of ruffles, tie dye or bold patterns and bright colours. I love midi and maxi but with muted tones which can be accessorised with an interesting belt, jewellery or bag.Personally, I really dislike any animal prints or synthetic fabrics and far prefer linen and cotton. I think living in a Mediterranean climate as I do,simple, fresh and easy to wear, looser fitting outfits are predominant here.

the 2nd dress is a classic design that has never gone out of style & it is beautiful thru all decades ~ halter top styling is very attractive on most shapes ~ i made this dress in a bright floral chiffon with knee length hem 20 years ago & have never stopped wearing it ~ plus i have a gorgeous silk fabric to remake it but with a mid calf to ankle length ~ if you say your style is classic then of course you are not going to like feminine styles or upbeat interesting ones ~ maybe you should have this mentioned in your channel name or in the video title because its not about dos & donts for women in general who might be likely to click on this video like i did ~ i am a clothing & costumer designer so check some of these videos out now & then because of curiosity but am usually disappointed for the reasons just mentioned ~ myself i like 3 types of styling & classic is one of them which includes this dress ~ classic / romantic / fun funky fad ~ those are my style choices & they make for an interesting wardrobe for interesting people ~

It depends on what you think you can pull off, I guess. Both the donts and dos were equally good and bad. In the donts, the bright turquoise can be pulled off only by certain skin complexion. That red dress in the dos can only be pulled off by someone who wants to hide their body (some people feel secure that way and its ok). Likewise the Olive green off shoulder dress was beautiful in the dos. That floral in the dos, o my God was far too bold and is not for everyone. Striped shirt dress in the dos with button all over looked dangerous. Shirt dresses have the risk of the button popping at any time. I never get them.

But a minor comment that came to my mind - you keep repeating that this is „classic”, this is not like, eg. „This dress does not feel classic”. You do not have to be classic all the time. Play with fashion. Classic is framed. Add to your frame some interesting picture 😊 Avoid framing yourself still in one image.

Hmm yes I think perhaps I need to change my phrasing as ‘classic’ to me sort of means multiple things. For example, I think you can have a modern classic piece, or something that is traditional and more of a basic, and that can be called classic too. Perhaps I need to refine that a bit more when I’m explaining!💕

The floral dress looks cheap and wrong proportions with dated belt. Black halterneck one has a belt sash/tie which is too much. Others were really nice.

would be nice to hear less of I LIKE or I DONT LIKE and crisper videos with shorter time on each item - there is lots of repetition i feel and i end up fast forwarding most of the time

i have been counting how many tymes you have made this about you ~ i like / i feel / persoanally / personal / etc ~ ive counted 45 tymes already that this is about your opinion & ive only watched up to the end of the red lace dress ~ if so then your opinion is not qualified or knowledgeable or professional enough to be giving out advice on this subject matter ~ also what you are wearing is very trendy & im surprised you dont realize that ~ it will soon be dated ~

It's a pity that you mainly draw attention to clothes from brands that YOU like, shapes that look good on YOU and bland colors that suit YOU or that YOU associate with looking rich? That is not universal or inclusive?

Please feel free to describe some shapes and styles you like so I understand what you mean😊. Obviously this channel is about my personal style so of course I will be showing that, and you can take it or leave it! 🙊🤍

Lydia often gives great general advice, but if you are struggling with her advice not being applicable to you, I can highly recommend @stylemejenn to figure out what works on YOU. She has an amazing understanding of what works on different people and why.

Loved the Sezane white Broderie Anglaise dress. Broderie Anglaise is so much classier than the cheap polyester lace seen in the swerve dress! A different technique in the making altogether, it’s never really been out of style since the 19th century! Love your videos Lydia ❤
