#5 the best advice I took was from Warren Huart, sit in your mixing position, but don't mix, just relax and listen to all of your favourite music, stuff you've heard hundreds or thousands of times. That's the one single piece of advice that made the biggest improvement to my mixing. Every now and then, I spend the night drinking beer and listening to music in my mixing position. I'm just using Sony stereo system speakers, but I know, if the bass seems a little loud and cuts through clearly, and the cymbals seem a little bitey, then it's about right, because that's my favourite music sounds like on those speakers. Cross referencing on every different system I can access after a session too of course.

I hate when people say to never use the solo button. Like why has the solo button existed all these years if we are never supposed to use it?

Every single tip you find must always be interpreted and understood. In the specific case of the "Solo" button, they tell you not to use it to make important mixing decisions. But to understand in the micro what happens to the individual tracks, it is a brilliant invention.

It's all in the ears. It helps if the ears say so.
