Kevin and Liza, the more I watch your videos, the more I wonder why these people continue teaching incorrect English. They don't even use articles before singular countable nouns, which is the basic of the learning process. I really appreciate your efforts.

My teacher used the two examples below to show the subject-verb agreement. 1. The knife and fork is mine. 2. The knife and the fork are mine. In the first case, "the knife and fork" is seen as a set of utensils, so single verb form is used. In the second case, "the knife and the fork" are seen as separate tools, so plural verb form is used. Is that really so to native speakers?

  • @Summer-3

I am not a native English speaker here but I believe the second structure is grammatically more correct. But I am Russian and we don't even use verbs in sentences like I am a student for a example. In Russian I will say " I student" and it makes sense and is correct. We miss out the verb to be all the time. And if you do say it in Russian, you must be a native English speaker. That's why those two are making those mistakes. I hope Kevin will clarify your comment.

There is a scene on Home alone movie when there is a nosy boy asking too many questions to the driver's van and he replies to the boy : "kid, I don't know, hit the road" So I suppose hit the road may mean beat it or something like that. Am I right? Thanks in advance.
