Avocado Trellising: Growing like apple trees in South African orchard
Tests so far have shown higher packouts and exportability for trellised Maluma avocado trees, but there are still lessons to be learned. Allesbeste Farming Company production manager Zander Ernst tells us more.

This is interesting. I never seen an avocado that needs a trellis but those avocado are different than the ones that we have. Great video. Loved and Subbed
This is awesome. I always thought this would breast to espalier form.
Amazing
Hope you can stay and work there . .more labor . But worth the effort . Interesting . Howdy from So.Cal
Thanks for sharing,I have 2 questions: 1. How high do you allow the plants to grow. 2. Can you use agriculture lime to paint the stems?

Maluma question here. How is the cold hardiness and overall 'toughness' of this tree - what's your climate like there?
Interesting, different method of growing avocados, im a grower in Mexico were trees grow much much bigger, that method would not work here.
Sounds like it will be the Hedge AVO
Hi ek sien jy antwoord nie die ouens nie het julle dit noord suid geplant? Of suid oos?
Can other cultivar like Hass or Reed use trellis method? If not, why? Thank you
Hi. Really enjoyed this video. I'm wanting to grow avocados in my small urban garden, and growing on wires is the perfect solution. Can you tell me the planting distance between trees, please? And could this be done using Hass variety? Thanks for posting this. :o)

I am interested in doing the same. Did you go ahead with espaliering in your backyard? Did you use one or two Haas? What spacing of the wires and how high? Thanks 😊

@@LorraineWatson Hi there. I'm sorry to say that no, I haven't taken on this espalier project. I have such limited space, and I am thinking of apples more. If only I was on some acreage!....lol. All the best for your endeavours. :)

@@DefenderOfTheLarder thanks for your reply. I have just embarked on espaliering apples, pears and plums but have been given an avocado; not sure sure it'll be right for espaliering though. Good luck with your apples.

@@LorraineWatson that's a great selection of fruit. So satisfying growing your own, right?! I read somewhere (haven't fact checked it yet) that once harvested, fresh foods can lose most of its vitamin content after only 4 days. Not sure if that's true, but I will look it up sometime. Let me know if you eventually espalier your avo. Enjoy your week. God bless.

I have attempted to grow avocadoes on an espalier system and can say it is very difficult. I see it working for a few years but long term it's not feasible

Yeah, what exactly do you imagine would happen in the long term?
Oops. In The last post the two space bars (blanks) should be _ to form an unbroken line ending with pdf

For espalier rule of thumb usually is 7 to 10 ft. It looks like his are maybe 4 to 5 ft.
What’s the age?
Why are the trunks white?

To prevent sunburn for the young branches -- until the branch color turns brown (young ones are green), they are susceptible to sun scalding.
Are your avacados grafted? Can you do the sane style with mangoes?

Visit htfg.org/conferences/2016/2016 JohnYoshimiYonemoto GrowingandHarvestingtheBestAvocados.pdf Jump to overhead 38. Better mgt if laterals are slightly sloping to suppress water shoots.
The tying up is restricting the growth of the trunk by chocking it, the trees need to have sunblock applied to each trunk because of the lack of shade... too complicated. No thanks.
Running after the profits.. shame
