Avishai Cohen Trio live | Leverkusener Jazztage 2021 | Jazzline
Ойын-сауық
Besetzung
Avishai Cohen - bass, vocals
Elchin Shirinov - piano
Roni Kaspi - drums

The way Elchin Shinirov plays the piano in this consert is different to almost all pianists in jazz history. Normally we are used to pianists taking place, trying to make their solos to be some sort of the center of the show, so to say. But no, Elchin is disciplined, he knows what it is all about, he plays his part in the most distinguished way, and therefore I love his playing.

Roniiiii! Oh lord! You've reached! So proud of you! ❤🙏🏼❤🙏🏼🤩
Roni Kaspi is absolutely an “outlier”. She is a very superior artist! So young and so bright! It almost feels like he's been playing for 50 years. She was born sitting on a drum... It's a great pleasure to hear her play - even more so in the company of "monsters" of the quality and importance of Avishai and Elchin. Thank you very much! Paulo de Tarso Riccordi, Brasil.

Wow, great show. I've been a fan of Avishai for some time. And pianist Shirinov plays beautifully as well. But holy mother of gawd .... the standout for me was Roni Kaspi. Incredibly musical and she has it all. Dynamics, feel, musical and empathetic to what Cohen and Shirinov were playing , and yes chops. But she plays for the music. When she soloed on Seven Seas she absolutely knocked it out of the park. Blew my frickin' mind.

John Fordham - 10 Jun 2022 Avishai Cohen Trio: Shifting Sands review - exhilarating, incandescent jazz Since his emergence in Chick Corea’s trio in 1997, the Israeli-born double bassist Avishai Cohen has become a global star for his bass sound that joins cello-like purity to percussive drama, and for original compositions embracing American jazz, Latin music, Sephardic-Jewish folk song, avant-funk, orchestral works, even pop-tinged vocals. 40:09 Source: The Guardian
🇹🇹KZread algorithm must be fed up of me playing this… I question if they are people? They are so simple. To play that level of music without a script and from memory is extremely extraordinary! The bassist; the pianist; the drummer…oh my goodness!!! May Almighty God bless their soul and give them long life to continue to make us happy with their soul soothing music…Woooow!!! 🇹🇹 And ohhh…we sometimes forget the hidden guys; epic sound engineering and camera work!!! 👏👏👏
Supreme jazz pure relaxion Avishai is awesome!. A double bassist , is rare in any genre of music today, Wow!
One year since I first listened to this. It still has the grip on me, maybe even more, as I now learned all the details. Still one of the best jazz conserts I´ve heard. So lucky this is always available on KZread.
What a trio! We’ve waited for so long for such a powerful trio that spins along Jarrett or Mehldau offerings. Pianist Shirinow displays perfect knowledge of the Jarrett and Mehldau idiom and In the second piece I hear Lyle Mays reincarnating, building his solo from silence to a continuous gradation, reminding pieces like Half Life of Absolution. And: Shirinov doesn’t come as epigone but as a complex thinker in its own right, providing of excellent technique in order to produce flow and a Trip factor in his soloing. The whole trio acts perfectly homogenous in timing and phraseology. This trio is a bliss!

I've come across this by accident. A jazz fan going back to the 60s I'm no doubt guilty of not being as open as I should be to what came after the '60 but this reminds me that jazz is alive and well and evolving in the 21st century.
