    I agree 100%. I’m curious and would love for your opinion on my videos. The channel is a bit different than most because we feature our entire club in Los Angeles, or anyone there who wants to be featured on camera. Curious what you think of our videos, my biggest goal is to bring better video production and not just a simple iPhone in the wife’s hands kinda video.

    Great review, your videos are always well done and fun to watch. I do have to comment about the locktite on the propeller blade nuts, you NEVER want to use locktite with a Nylock locknut. One - it's a nylock locknut and you don't need it, Two - the locktite will make they nylock fail as it's plastic and locktite eats plastic. A option might be to use a thinner washer on those prop bolts so there are more threads sticking out of the nuts, or just a little longer bolt.

  • @JustPlaneChris

    @JustPlaneChris

    17 күн бұрын

    Thanks for that, I came to the comments section to say exactly that. NEVER use loctite on nylon-insert lock nuts. In fact, you never want to use loctite anywhere near anything plastic. It will likely destroy it.

  • @ModelAV8RChannel

    @ModelAV8RChannel

    17 күн бұрын

    Thanks, but never say NEVER. Lock nuts are not all created equal, and the tiny ones we get with any model from China are not exactly what we'd call super high end. Lock nuts are typically a one use affair. After one tighten, they will not lock in the same way ever again. We'll come back to that. Loctite has been proven in tests to hold much better than a lock nut (many tests on YT, I'll link one). This is a critical, high stress area of the plane that will be spinning at high RPM's constantly...and the bolts are rather short, so the Nyloc is only engaged with a thread or two. The Loctite is engaging all the threads on the metal part of the nut/bolt. So, circling back to the one time use thing...if you're re-using a lock nut, always use Loctite. In this case, considering what it is...Loctite is a much better bond, and keeping it off of the spinner back plate is easy to do. If it degrades the Nyloc part of the nut, doesn't really matter. You still have a better, stronger, and more reliable bond with the Loctite than with a new lock nut. Test Vid - kzread.info/dash/bejne/eaiMrMlqd6W6cZs.html

    What a gorgeous scale model. Everything looks to have been well thought out and the oleos looked excellent on touchdown. For those of us without American sized garages and cars, can I assume it's relatively easy to take out the wing bolts, unplug wires and transport in 2 pieces? Separate removable wings with easy plug connectors are the only things I really think are missing from this.

    It's impressive David. Flies like a pattern ship. That is what I thought. Not sure why they didn't use carbon tubes. That said...I later noticed and thought about my other two 1.6 warbirds. You can separate the wing halves with those as they screw together, but I don't. Both the Corsair and Spitfire I leave the wings one piece to make for a quicker assembly. I was actually not pleased with having to glue the halves together until I realized that is how my other ones are, then I was like, ok what am I upset about, Lol.

    Hey boss. I will offer an off the cuff guess as to the light up front on the nacelle cowl. Now this is just a guess based on some other full scale planes that use deicer boots on the wing leading edges that I have worked on. These may be wing leading edge inspection lights, designed to allow the pilot to inspect the wing LE for ice build up so that they can adequately control the deice boot operation. Not something that the Philippine Airforce would be concerned about, but in other parts of the world... sure.

    Really like this plane but Avios and Hobby King has me staying clear. I purchased the C-130 in the Coast Guard livery when it was released. I had a mishap and broke a prop. I ordered one only to not be in stock. 18 months later I got tired of waiting for props to be back in stock and ordered a set on Ebay for 4 times what it was on Hobby King site. Maybe if this goes on sale, I will pick one up.

    Great review as usual! However, you should NEVER use loctite with a nylon-insert lock nut! You should also keep loctite away from plastic, as it will make it brittle and could fail. I would keep loctite VERY far away from that plastic prop assembly. That's why they provided lock nuts. ;)

  • @ModelAV8RChannel

    Agreed on the cheap lock nuts, and you are correct that they are a one-use item. Having experienced an exploding tail rotor assembly on a heli due to loctite damage on plastic tail blades, I’d still be super cautious of advising the use of loctite near that plastic prop assembly. I may be slightly paranoid about that now. 😂

  • @ModelAV8RChannel

    @ModelAV8RChannel

    17 күн бұрын

    We have had similar experiences. I had a prop/spinner assembly on a FMS warbird fly apart in flight on me because one of the "lock nuts" holding the blades on worked loose. Same type of assembly as this. That is why I use Loctite anyway. I haven't had an issue since. You certainly have a point in that I should explain the technique in the video better to make sure people keep the Loctite clear of the spinner back plate. One good way to do this is to actually put the Loctite inside the threads of the nut rather than on the bolt. This works the excess out through the top of the bolt/nut rather than down towards the back plate. Wipe the excess away, good to go. The nyloc will degrade yes, but it won't matter, and it will hold better in the end.

    @@ModelAV8RChannel Yessir, we all tend to learn from our mishaps! Good technique on applying the loctite to the "hole" rather than the bolt. I do that for many fasteners on my helicopters since it also keeps you from applying too much loctite. Anyway, thanks for the discussion and also curse you for making me want that Tucano! 😛

    You NEVER use locktite on nylon insert locknuts. The locktite will react with the nylon and render it useless .

  • @ModelAV8RChannel

    @ModelAV8RChannel

    17 күн бұрын

    Never say NEVER. If it degrades the Nyloc part of the nut, so what. You still have a better, stronger, and more reliable bond with the Loctite thats also there. Test Vid - kzread.info/dash/bejne/eaiMrMlqd6W6cZs.html

    Great scale flight Adam as always and great video work from Heidi!!! This might be my next war bird. Just wondering if you might know how to obtain a model that I am very interested in. The hobby shop that I frequent doesn't sell Hobby King airplanes and I thought maybe you would know a shop that has one. It's the Avios (pnf) Albatross HU-16 V2 Coast Guard Flying Boat 1620mm. I'm sure that you have many more connections than I do and would really appreciate any info or connections that you recommend! I would be glad to purchase it through your channel or would even be interested in a used one in good shape. Thank you for any suggestions that you might have.

I'm guessing since it is still listed on their website they will eventually get them back in stock. I'd hit the notify me button so you'll get an e mail when it is back in stock. I've never flown one, but they look like a cool airplane.

    Often I do have telemetry. I'd have to change out the ESC to have that in this one with the TX we used. Even when we do have telemetry, we establish an average flight time...or timer setting because almost everyone watching a review wants to know what the flight times are. It makes it a bit easier for us to just put the battery used and timer setting on our set-up info page for easy reference.

    Wow, what a plane. Kinda cool that hobby king was down for a year and a half and come back with a awesome plane like this. You know people are watching. My question is hobby king makes 3 different grades of planes. The avois lineup is the best. Then durafly. But the hobby stuff is junk. I bought the slowpoke and the ailerons fell off during flight. Lol. Just wondering your thoughts on hobby king different grades of planes. Just bought the albatros plane. Love it. I have 3 tundras. Love them. I guess you have to know what to buy. Kinda strange how some planes are awesome and others are junk. Long text but Kinda curious on your thoughts.

    It is man! So, HK has had their issues. Some bad decisions along the way. When what you need to do and what you can afford...or will afford, don't match...there's gonna be trouble. New owners and new management now. The re-opening of warehouses that were closed for quite a while as well as funding to get projects that stalled finished and start all new projects show they are willing to spend the money to do business differently. The question is how many customers will give them that chance to prove it over time? I hope they will get it together and keep it together. So far they are saying, and doing as quickly as possible...the right things. They still get hammered about issues they inherited though, which isn't really fair, but goes with the territory in situations like this. I'll do business with them and we'll see. Just FYI, "Durafly" is smaller size EPO models, and "Avios" is larger EPO models. HK brand are planes done on a budget...by the old regime. I look forward to seeing what they do in the future. So far the Tundra V3 and Super Tucano are awesome.

    I think with the small aluminum brace that is the best way to make sure it is strong. I would have preferred carbon wing tubes myself, so I get what you mean. I have to say though, its so good otherwise. Also, I have two other 1.6m warbirds and while the wing halves can be separated, I find I leave them one piece to make field assembly faster.

    Actually I don't know that, and neither do you. We both know they have had issues with more than just parts availability in the past, true story there. However, ownership of the company has changed hands now, and they have new management in place. They knew exactly what they were getting into when they bought it, and the new manager owned the issues they had in the past, and seems dedicated to change those. There is an interview with him on the RC Groups YT channel if you want to check it out. I know where you're coming from dude, I get it. For a few years there it was looking very bad for them. They were closing warehouses, weren't releasing anything new, and didn't have parts for anything. With the new ownership and funding they have re-opened those warehouses, funded several projects that stalled out and are getting them to completion (like this one), and are responding to the issues instead of being radio silent. Those are all great signs. When it comes to parts for older stuff, that may take more time. There are only so many assembly lines in the factory, and tooling for one plane or the next takes a bit. They can't just snap their fingers and have parts produced for every airplane on the website by the end of the month. I want to see how far ahead they planned with these new projects...see how many parts they have produced along with the planes and how long they last. One thing for sure, if they change but our attitude towards them doesn't, nothing they do will matter. With that in mind, I support them, hope the best for them. I will buy from them and see what happens with the new regime instead of trying to further hurt any chance they have of turning things around by crapping on them in every media outlet I can. You may want to consider doing the same. If it turns out they don't deliver so be it, but if they do...we have another good option that produces planes other companies won't in a lot if cases. I like that.
