Raise your swords to the sky! Fantasy themes run strong in my upcoming album, Let There Be Fire. Perhaps the most over-the-top, unique fantasy song I've done is this tale of a traveling bard; his anthem of victory. "Traveler's Song" uses inspiration from a few of my favorite games as the titular bard traverses ancient lands. Each verse of the song is a different fantasy game universe, can you guess where the Traveler has been?
LET THERE BE FIRE will release on May 25th! More music is coming very soon.
Thanks to EpicFroggz for her incredible lineart in the lyric video!

Lyrics:
Sing for the lost, for eternal affairs
Sing to raise our spirits in great despair
Through the ashes of oblivion
Quick and unseen like the dragon's offspring
For we owe no debts and bow to no king
Every war has its costs and we've paid
Won by the bond of the party we've made
Warn with a call that the battle starts now
As the demons listen we strike them down
Fighting back the rifts of blood
Sent from the sky lies a angel in need
Give him muse to strengthen and words to heed
Heaven's doused and set alight
We're knocking on the gates of hell tonight
Broken swords and dragon's bones
Scattered on the way back home
Beating to the sound of clashing steel
When they're on our heels
Now chant the tales and legends told
Strengthened by the hymns of old
Weathered as this winding road is long
So we sing our traveler's song
Play out a spell in your sequence of chords
To inspire and sharpen our rusted swords
Echoing the whisper of the trees
Creep 'long a path where a thousand bards failed
From the thick West Tyrian jungle trails
Come from afar to set prisoners free
Into dark tangled depths from the open sea
Second chances don't come cheap
So keep alert and on your feet
An ancient spirit's song will heal our wounds
Unabashed by our defeat
Spite the bloodstains on these cobble streets
A message to the gods to see us through
Ever heard, yet rarely sung
So raise your voice and praise the sun
I call a new rebirth to keep us strong
Countless souls along the path
Lost to fiends and lords of wrath
But we'll return to play our final song

Had a bard join mid campaign while our party had at the time a half-orc fighter, half-elf monk, twelve year old human sorcerer (I think that was his class), a goblin healer and a pixie ranger. This was how the conversation went. Dwarf bard came up to us asking to join us. I (half-orc fighter) asked him what his quirk was. He got confused and asked what I meant. I responded “I have a lust for power that will one day get me killed, our monk constantly prays to a god that doesn’t exist in this universe, we have a kid who can’t talk to any women with a decent chest without wetting himself, a pixie that thinks it’s the top dog and a goblin who is looking after a random dragon egg as if it was her own child.” He responded with the fact people have told him that being raised by an octopus isn’t normal. If u want more info on the shit my party has done, just ask.

DragonCatGaming to start off the universe we started in only had soul based magic, meaning that if you weren’t born with it, you couldn’t get it and if you were born with it, you had your rights taken away from you and were forced to be a military asset. My character wasn’t born with magic, so he was a magicless ranger. I was contracted to help transport two people who hadn’t woken their magic yet without even knowing why I was transporting them. Hijinks insued which resulted in gaining the son of the most powerful man (plus my employers worst enemy)in the isles as an ally and eventually we got the two people to the target location and waited roughly two years to see them again as we were breaking them out of a high security prison as the leaders of the nation wide rebellion.

Today I said farewell to the greatest D&D group I've ever had the honor of playing with. We fought countless battles, survived impossible odds, and shared more laughs than anyone I've ever adventured alongside. It was an honor and privileged to know them all. And we played this before we went. We said our goodbyes and listened in silence, enjoying each other's company one last time before moving to our next adventure.

I understand the whole mentality of saying "WOW! THIS IS THE PERFECT D&D SONG!" And yes, this is true. But... its more than that. This song is an ode to fantasy itself. The stories set long ago in settings with knights and swords and monsters. Where things are larger than life in a world similar to our own. Where people have extrordinary powers and legends live up to their story. And honestly, to the memories that the video games, movies, and books have made as well. Diablo, Dark Souls, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, Dragon Age, Legend of Zelda, Lord of the Rings, etcetera. I can remember dozens of natural 1 and 20 stories, sure. But I still remember the countless hours of screaming in rage as my friend laughed fighting Midir and the even louder laughter they gave out as I screamed out in victory like a god damn lunatic as we slayed the abyss tainted beast. The long preperation and excitement of hunting a Devil Jho only to scream and panic as a Bazzlegeass swooped in like a B 32 bomber plane and yet still we prevailed. Or the happiness I felt watching Lord of the Rings with my family in my living room as they too enjoyed the genre I love. Or the times I spent in fantasy MMOs, making countless friends in them and lauging at the hilarious situations we put ourselves in going to higher and lower level zones. The countless times I can recall laughing as I traverse Skyrim and headed to space due to a Giants hammer. And thats not even taking into account the beautiful stories they tell. The tears from fighting Sif. The timeless beautiful simplicity of a Zelda story. The countless fun facts and fantastic world building of LoTR. And others I dont know but I know you do. Fantasy is an incredible genre and one I love with all my heart. Yes D&D is by far my favorite example of this but its discredittiing the hundreds of stories in books, movies, and TV shows that also inspired great adventures too. Even the ones that inspired D&D itself. So, this isn't the perfect D&D song, its the perfect FANTASY song.

As you walk into a busy inn, you hear the sound of music, it sounds extremely familiar, a sense of deja vu starts to creep up to you, you're mesmerized by the song, it almost has a hint of magic in its melody. You look around, trying to find the source of the music. A tabaxi waiter comes up to you. "Welcome to the Come On Inn!" He greets, but then notices that you're focused on listening to the song, he smiles. "Ah.. The song fancies your interest, huh? It attracts a lot of customers. One day, no one remembers exactly how many years ago it was, a bard came into our inn, has been telling everyone about his heroic acts ever since. He hasn't left the inn all these years, says he's waiting for someone. Do you maybe know anything about who he might be waiting for?"

Everybody's got a story they must tell, the adventure that came before we fell. The motivation that drove us on, put us on the path to the glory we won. Now hear my song, my friends, let it be the shield that defends. Let the notes I string across my lyre, bring us safely through the fire. The tavern is the home we know, where fine stories and ale flow. The place where our journey beings, and the place where our journey will end. Now I can hear the sound, of heartbeats all around. You know there's magic in the night, and it will guide us in this fight. The party that we build, will not leave our dreams unfulfilled. The mockers said we never had a chance, but we're the ones who have the last laugh. Guided by our gods who stand, watching over this land, we were chosen to walk this path, we will protect all from demons' wrath. And man's greed will attempt to control us, they will call us treacherous, refusing to bow down to any king, we are the wild cards, striking with sting. Now chant the tales and legends told, strengthened by the hymns of old. Allow your heart to be filled with song, to keep you awake this whole night long. I tell the story of my sister's heart, and of the pain that caused her to fall apart. I sing the song of my brother's victory, but I know that it cost him bitterly. I keep in my heart the things I have seen, of the runes and temples most obscene. Of the secrets and lies that we seek to hide, that could destroy us from the inside. Everybody's got a story they must tell, the adventure that came before we fell. The motivation that drove us on, put us on the path to the glory we won. So, everyone raise your glass, and remember to hold fast, the tavern is the home we know, where fine stories and ale flow, that we return here when our journey's done, and we can rest in the setting sun. Lyrics a mash of my own words, Here's to us by Kevin Rudolf, and lyrics from the video you have clicked on.

Okay, now I need a version that's slower, more bitter, and a little sarcastic. A dark reprise. Like someone is standing alone in the battlefield in the aftermath, surrounded by the bodies of enemies and allies, grieving all of them as dearly as family members, and is overcome with how utterly *pointless* it all was. Men fighting and killing and dying, for some imaginary thing called "glory". Like the person used to sing along with all their comrades, chest puffed out and full of pride and valor, and now everyone else is dead and they have nothing left -- nothing but the song. Please? *puppy dog eyes*

This makes me think of a few random people from the present getting dumped into this past fantasy world and got stuck with this tribe with weird culture, food and dances. As they get dragged into the middle of a battle, caused by a long going war, they have to work together for their survival, and bond. After the battle, all the modern people are willing to fight for the tribe's cause, and are all partially experienced fighters now and know what they're getting into. They decide the next battle would be at the "Gates of Hell", and the Protagonist [who has been trying to get the present people to get along with the tribe from the beginning, being modern himself] starts singing. The present people give the beat [the claps], while a teenager who has been 'captured' while playing the guitar [and therefore still has it] was one of the first to have wanted to be friends with the tribe [being the youngest one there, innocence ya know] and starts playing the guitar which blends in with the...polkas? Idk, those instruments at the beginning, forgot what they're called whoops. And it's supposed to represent harmony and bonding and evolution, as they slowly get out of their shell while singing and the present people start to hum/sing? and the guitar guy sings along with the protagonist [the higher pitched echo at the end] and all is well. And at the end there would be either the protagonist or the leader of the tribe saying: "We're here." Just an idea, but wouldn't that be neat? EDIT: also, the protagonist would get the idea to sing after the leader asks what a 'Traveller' is, and gets the urge to explain in the best possible way humanity can

Aviators, you are such an amazing artist, and I really hope you become more recognised for your incredible talent in the future. Thank you for continuing to make incredible songs, and for inspiring me in many aspects of life, such as helping me through my depression with songs like October Sunset. As for this single, it's amazing, and I love the epic atmosphere it has. Please keep creating great music as always, and I'll definitely be buying this single sooner than later (: From Blue, a huge fan.

When I hear this song, I think of the greatest DnD campaign where the party must acquire pieces of an ancient song written by Ao and left across all the realms, culminating in one final battle at the gates of the abyss between the forces of chaos and every single race from all the realms, even the evil ones.

"Each verse of the song is a different fantasy game universe, can you guess where the Traveler has been?" Where has he been seriously? Obviously the world of darksouls, path of exile and guild wars but where else?

The first one, I think, is The Elder Scrolls-perhaps specifically Oblivion. The second part of the first verse is Dungeons and Dragons. And I think that at least part of the second verse is the Diablo universe Also nice name+pfp xd

PhoenixQueen77 you can see where verses end and begin in the description and the problem with thinking that the first verse is elder scrolls is that it would include the line “won by the bond of the party we made” even though you never make a party. Actually you do in elderscrolls online! So if every line is a different game it would be sing for the lost for eternal affairs (arena, find a lost king) sing to raise our spirits in great despair (Morrowind. Cure a plague) Through the ashes of oblivion (oblivion) Quick and unseen like the dragon offspring For we owe no depth and vow to no longer (skyrim, Dragonborn and civil war, from the stormclock perspective) Every war has its cost and we’ve paid Won by the bond of the party we’ve made (elder scrolls online. The only game where you win a war with a party)

One is diablo, "Warn with a call that the battle starts now As the demons listen we strike them down Fighting back the rifts of blood Sent from the sky lies a angel in need Give him muse to strengthen and words to heed Heaven's doused and set alight We're knocking on the gates of hell tonight" As someone whose played I can see obvious references to the fourth and first acts here.
