Avery N - Eggs On Toast

The short film starts out with a woman, Alex, in her kitchen, making breakfast for two.
Alex asks “would you like to help with anything?” to which Raine responds: “no, I like it when
you make it.” She brings the finished food out for her partner, Raine, after which they eat it
while cuddled on the couch together, having light and happy conversation. Raine leaves for work
after a hug and a kiss on the cheek. After Raine leaves, Alex sets up her table to study and sits
down. Just after she sits down and starts to focus, she gets a call from Raine, checking in on her.
She then gets a text from her friend stating that they haven’t seen Alex for a while and asking
what she has been up to. Alex responds that she has been busy with Raine and schoolwork. At
noon, Raine calls and says that he wants to have lunch with her because he wants to see her face,
and that studying can wait for a bit because she needs a break. At this point, the calls become
more frequent, about little things like Raine asking if he left his water bottle at Alex’s apartment
(he did not), and if Alex knows what she’s making for dinner. One call asks if Alex is really out
with friends instead of studying, and if there are any male friends there. Another call after Alex
eats dinner asks if she has eaten yet, to which she responds yes, and immediately starts to explain
that it’s because she needs the energy to focus on studying, but before she can finish, Raine
abruptly hangs up. After a little bit, Raine calls back angrily, explaining that eating together is a
sign of love and dedication, and that eating on her own means that she doesn’t love him and it's
probably because she has been hanging out with “that group of friends” recently. He follows this
up by asking when she’s coming over. Alex says she can’t because she has to study, and if she
fails another test she won’t be able to graduate on time, and Raine replies with “you know that
you’re always the one who cooks. If you don’t come over I’m going to starve, and someone who
loves me wouldn’t want that. If I’m really that unimportant to you, maybe I’ll have to find
someone who actually cares about me.” Raine hangs up, and Alex sits for a while and tries to get
back to studying. She clearly has difficulty concentrating, and after some muttered curses grabs
her things and walks out the door.
