Averie's Journey: Thriving with VATER Syndrome and Overcoming Limb Differences at 2 Years Old

Averie was born with VATER syndrome, which is a disorder that can affect multiple body systems such as the heart, kidneys, vertebrae and cause various limb differences and develop in early pregnancy. Averie’s differences are limited to radial longitudinal deficiency in her left arm (she is missing her radius bone) and a curved femur in her right leg. Drs. Stutz and Podeszwa have recommended that Averie wait a few more years before any decisions are made regarding possible surgical corrections, but at age two, Averie is not letting her differences slow her down. Though she was delayed in walking, she now spends every day working hard to keep up with her big sister. Her parents are grateful for the care she has received and know that she is in the very best hands at Scottish Rite. #limbdifference #pediatricorthopedics #patientstories #pediatriccare #medicaljourney
