I think the problem with the Crossing is no one wanted Iron Man to be turned bad or to be replaced by young Tony. Some of the tie-in's really let it down. Some of the art was not good, again the tie-in's. But I loved the scope of the story, the ambition and the willingness to do something different. I didn't mind them mutating the Wasp into something more, well, Wasp-like. Some things didn't work but overall it doesn't deserve the bad rep it's got.

During quarantine we should get one of these everyday!

Everybody should have some kind of Totoro memorabilia in every room.

Having never read this storyline, I'm actually glad I didn't after your overview, Omar! LOL! One of the very rare instances where I'm not mad about a retcon. Tony Stark is my all-time favorite character, so that's probably the biggest reason I wouldn't have liked this story.

Somebody at Marvel needs to reprint this book ASAP. Prices on Amazon/Ebay are almost up to $500! I also hope the Avengers issues(390-395, Crossing and Timeslide one-shots) get reprinted in TPB format

I collected this crossover when it first came out and I enjoyed it up until the end. Part of the reason is that I had read some of the rumors about who the villain was rather than Tony Stark. the rumor of Kang using Hank Pym turned out to be true and honestly I liked it better. Another rumor that explained Kang's action was it was not Mantis but Moon Dragon and her mind abilities is the reason Stark was murdering people and why Kang was attacking the Avengers. Another rumor was Scarlet Witch was involved instead of Mantis because her children were fake. Interesting that was used later by Bendis to start his Avengers run. There is one thing that did rub me the wrong way and that was the costumes. They were created by Mike Deodato but this crossover was the only time they were used. For a future review how about the Acts of Vengeance Omnibus and it companion for a review?

Love those Retroreviews 😄 Always a nice addition to my Sunday’s. Can I suggest to do the *Untold Tales of Spider-Man* omnibus since not much of it is covered and reviews are out there are pretty rare about this one.😄

It also occurs to me that Bendis basically did the same thing with the AvX/All New X-Men nonsense.

This is the story that drove me away from comics really until Dreamwave's Transformers books got me back in the shop. Seeing my favorite hero Tony Stark turned to a bad guy like that didn't sit well with me at all. Plus I was a fan of the Force Works team and felt they got their legs cut out from under them far too soon. Dropped all the books when Tony killed the nanny so I've never read the whole story. Did buy this omni for $20 last year for my Iron Man collection though. Thanks for recapping it, Omar. Howabout a retro review of Force Works one day?

The time period when Tony Stark and Hal Jordan seemed to have similar things happening to them. John Stewart becomes Green Lantern. Rodney Rhodes becomes Iron Man then War Machine. Hal losses his marbles and Kyle takes over the mantle. Tony loses his marbles and young Stark takes over the mantle. I always wondered how would they have brought the older Tony Stark back into the fold if it wasn't for Heroes Reborn/Return?

Lol. Not an easy case to make with this much maligned story line. Very entertaining, thanks Omar!

This sounds like an interesting story, even if it was recon-ed. Sounds interesting I may pick this us just to read it myself...and Avengers Forever to see how it was recon-ed LOL

:) I was more of an X-men fan, and looking back Onslaught wasn't the worst X-men story I read.

Mind control and time travel - two of my least favourite comic tropes. Now together for the first time!

I'm glad someone liked The Crossing. I tried to read it and never finished it. Now I don't have to. So, thanks for that!

Because of Marvel time travel rules, Teen Tony was from the past of an alternate Earth. The Avengers made have "TimeSlid" into the actual 616 past and caused it to diverge by their actions, such as getting the Starks killed early and taking Teen Tony away. Or they might have visted an already divergent Earth which seemed liked the past, but had small differences in continuity(and you would have to read Avengers: TimeSlide to decide this for yourself) . But regardless, it was not the past of the 616 by the time the team left with Teen Tony. So: both time travel and alt. Earth travel.

I would remake this story with the evil tony stark as a clone who would be defeated by the avengers and the real good tony stark

Thanks for another great video Omar! I read a few parts of this Avengers event back when I was collecting single issues, but I thought they were not memorable. Being a fan of Iron Man, I did not really enjoy this particular storyline. Thank you for mentionning Avengers Forever retcons this whole thing! And I 100% agree with you, Kurt Busiek is the definitive Avengers run!!

The Crossing is terrible but I read it and re-read it and was sort of fascinated with it. Haven't looked at it in 20 years though, watching the video some of the art is really rough (particularly some of the fill-ins and the War Machine penciller) and even Deodato's layouts aren't very good. But there's a loud desperate energy shining through the event.

@@NearMintCondition Marvel in the 90s post-Image was trying so hard to copy the "extreme" and grim/gritty, this Avengers era is a perfect example with the costumes and attitudes that would fit right in with something like Brigade or Wildcats. Also going cheap on the art on most of the line particularly B and C tier books (that all ended up cancelled). In fact that cheapness is still going on today.

A reprint would be cool 😎

David is going to put out a 2nd printing of this omnibus.

The art looks great has the 90s image vibe, it has a lot of great artists in it. Kinda regret I didn't get it for super cheap a few years ago. However the story sounds like a hot garbage.

So wait an Avenger Leader is brainwashed by one of their enemies into being a sleeper agent and turns evil only to be defeated by himself.....MARVEL you didn't you recycled The Crossing's story for Secret Empire and just switched who the sleeper agent was, granted I'm not one of those Secret Empire haters, the moment Steve said Hail Hydra I was like okay MARVEL you're clearly planning one of your event comics again so what's it going to be this time: Clone, Cap of the 50s returns and is impersonating Steve, brainwashed, Evil Cap from an alternate reality, they of course go with the whole memory altered thing, and because of the backlash had to give away the ending

Ladyhawk is not a horrible movie. Matthew Broderick was a horrible choice for it, but the movie was actually pretty good. I agree some of the line work in the Crossing was nice, but the inking and coloring was not good at all. Some of the character redesigns are head scratching cuz they are a big departure. The actual story is meh. Thanks for the show Omar. Enjoy your mother's day. Stay safe everyone!
