Aveeno Moisturizer Review | Why I Use Oats on My Skin (Dermatologist)

There are thousands of moisturizers available on the market, and it can be tough to pick one over the other. Here, Dr. Syed explains what makes Aveeno so special, and why it may be the perfect moisturizer for your dry skin!
As a dermatologist, Dr. Syed uses scientific evidence to explain the mechanisms by which oats, the key ingredient in Aveeno's products, help our skin fight against inflammation.
TIMESTAMPS:
3:18 - Aveeno Ingredients
4:20 - Oat Power
5:32 - "Good" skin bacteria
6:56 - Aveeno Product Demo
PRODUCTS:
Aveeno Moisturizing Lotion (Bulk) - geni.us/M2Fv
OTHER SKINCARE PRODUCTS I PERSONALLY USE:
There's no guaranteeing these are the best for you (it's too hard to get the right data for this) but these are products I consider to be from reputable brands, at a good price point, and which I like to use.
Cervae Moisturizing Cream (my daily moisturizer): geni.us/A2CT
La Roche Posay Hydrating Cleanser (my daily cleanser): geni.us/TBAnM
La Roche Posay Tinted Mineral Sunscreen (sunscreen for skin of color): geni.us/EJXv
Differin Gel (adapalene - a retinoid) : geni.us/4mAPAO
La Roche Posay Adapalene (as above, but slightly more fancy): geni.us/poEAc2
Neutrogena Retinol (weaker than above two, more hydrating): geni.us/cpAMAxb

I absolutely colloidal oatmeal. When i first had a flare of eczema and hives all over my entire body i used the oat bath soak and the eczema therapy relief balm i have fallen in love with aveeno products and oats. I wish they’d put it in a tube like cerva has with their healing ointment. I’d love to have that in a tube to take with me. I also love the smell of oats but even though it doesn’t stop me from itching it helps the dryness and just rubbing it on my skin soothes the itching.

Hi! Just found your video and I want to tell you my story. Got history of dermatitis all around my body, got some light GI problem too and from 20y of age bronchospasm made an apparition (my mother was asthmatic but I didn't know what caused the persistent and breathtaking cough that sometimes plague me). Due to family history (and sadly tragedies) I didn't set my mind to cure my respiratory illnesses till 10y ago. My asthma worsened, my GERD too but my dermatitis on the scalp receded (I started using indian herbal powders and then light petrolatum and silicone free shampoos). Thanks to my pneumologist I understood the links between the various inflammation processes and I'm following a healthy diet that made me lose more cm than body weight 😅. With the hot season my eritema flared up in vengeance but I still didn't know how to cure it properly and after it healed a disturbing eczema appeared: a very persistent itch, pain and in a little area even a pus bubble that gave me pain. From then on I discovered Aveeno Dermexa and my skin breathes! Last year I discovered I'm allergic and this eczema was also from very aggressive cleaning products I'm using at work but thank to this product line the eczema receded in a week! I'm no kidding and advising and promoting these products to everyone I know. I also bought the skin relief line for when my skin will be all free: do you think it'll be good for avoiding a relapse? Thanks!

Reading some Amazon reviews of some African Soap I convinced myself my hydrolipidic skin barrier was damaged so I tried using unrefined shea butter and coconut oil (with some wheat germ and jojoba oil) body butter with Lipikar AP+M immediately after every shower (with an organic oil-based soap) and I'm finishing a 3 months period with Collagen+ialuronic acid (and more) supplement: my skin is velvety, it can stand bracelets and my smartband again! 🥺💓 So: pay attention to your skin and your care routine!

I love colloidal oat I find a good 2% Collodial oatmeal base works really good on the skin especially if it’s mixed well with other ingredients I also like collodial oatmeal bath soaks as well when I go camping I always take a collodial oatmeal product in case I get sun burn or mosquito bite because it’s so calming I don’t use Aveeno but that was my first introduction to collodial oats

Hi Gustavo! I’m really sorry you’ve been going through this, it must be a very confusing and difficult time. Chronic telogen effluvium is much rarer and also very poorly understood, which is why I didn’t want to go too far into that subject in this video. Do you get bothered by any smell from the blue bottle with the shea butter? I noticed an odd smell at first that seems to go away within 10 minutes each time I put it on, but I’m concerned I might’ve just gotten used to it but the smell maybe still lingers. Partially because I like to apply moisturizer to my neck before applying cologne, but worry that the odd smell of this lotion might affect the cologne negatively

@@usamasyed i know in your other comment you said either one works just as well for yore, and I’ll probably stick with the blue one since that has Shea butter. Or do you think there are better options for lotion out there in general, even from other brands that are unscented and meant for body use. I primarily just get dry hands from washing them a lot, but still occasionally apply it on other body parts to make sure they stay moisturized. And also I’ve heard that it’s good to apply lotion to your neck before applying cologne, to help the fragrance last longer. Would you still recommend this blue bottle aveeno for that purpose, or is there another product you’d recommend for that purpose also?

I can't comment on the cologne question. But, I've used the original green labeled lotion, and the blue labeled with shea butter. Personally, I love the blue labeled lotion! In my opinion, it moisturizes better! I green labeled lotion left my skin dry, like I have put nothing on it. That's just my experience with it, though. The skin relief lotion has helped my dry skin! It's wonderful! I barely notice the shea butter scent. It dissipates almost instantly after application! I also use the matching body wash, and that's awesome, as well! It does have a slight scent despite it claiming to be "fragrance free" it's not a bad scent, a light clean scent. Other all, I recommend the Aveeno skin relief lotion! It has made my skin so soft and smooth! I know you didn't ask me, but I hope this helps! 😊

Hi Doc! Hope you are doing well. Is Aveeno helpful for my acne skin which is also dry? I've over body heat and I tried different home remedies like drinking water that's left with fenugreek seeds overnight and applying natural Aloe vera gel but I'm getting more and more pimples on my face! I'd love to hear from you some tips to reduce body heat! Thank you.
