About KIRBY:
Kirby Pábalan-Táyag Aráullo is a Filipino American historian, content creator, and renowned culture bearer based in California. He is also the author of the groundbreaking book “Black Lives & Brown Freedom: Untold Histories of War, Solidarity, & Genocide,” and the Co-Founder and former Director of Operations for the Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies at the University of California, Davis.
Kirby is a direct descendant of the last indigenous Paramount Kings of Luzon (of both Lakandúlâ of Tondo and Rája Matandá of Maynílâ), of the anti-colonial revolutionary Katipuneros, and of World War II Guerilyeras who fought for the liberation of the islands we now call the Philippines.
Born in Angeles City, Philippines, Kirby spent his childhood amidst the rebuilding of his homeland in the aftermath of Mt. Pinatubo’s cataclysmic eruption. His childhood beneath the shadows of the city’s red-light district, slum neighborhoods, and Clark Air Base (a former U.S. military installation) sparked his lifelong passion in advocating for the rights and the well-being of marginalized and disenfranchised communities. As a direct descendant of revolutionaries, politicos, and activists, Kirby’s upbringing was molded by productively engaging and navigating the realms of advocacy, traditional politics, and grassroots activism.
With a keen interest in varying fields (such as history, public affairs, and filmmaking) and a strong commitment to serving the community, Kirby studied at some of the world’s most prestigious institutions, such as Harvard University, the University of California, Davis, and the Université catholique de Louvain (one of Europe’s oldest universities). He has been teaching Filipino people’s history through writing in indigenous Philippine scripts (Kulitan & Baybayin) for over a decade.
Today, Kirby is well-known for his educationally engaging KZread channel where you can find videos about history, culture, and everything in between! He is also currently working on his next big book “Luzones & the New World: Forgotten Histories from Southeast Asia to the Americas” along with an easy-to-read book and zine series known as “Know Our Roots,” and an educational coloring book series called “Color Our Roots.”
Kirby is an educator who is well-rooted in his culture and passionate about his colorful heritage (Kapampángan, Tagálog, Indigenous Áytá, Pangasinan, and Spanish-Basque-Portuguese-Irish Mestizo); he strives to decolonize Philippine history and democratize Ethnic Studies through knowledge and creativity. Kirby is a Dátû and Lakan by blood but an Artist-Scholar-Activist at heart.

let me share this thought too; as the Fire Empire tried to subjugate their own masses and the peoples of other nations and the nations fought back, the chains of events weren't peaceful, in fact, it was very bloody, unlike what happened in EDSA, where people, some of them were even passer-by just got stranded. 2nd, if we really are "free" thanks to the "Revolution", then why are we still economically and socially subjugated by local political overlords and corporatocratic and global elites - unlike in the series like in Korra's time when people (from all nations) are depicted to be individually free and individualistic - unlike in our Filipino setting when we are more like fanatic pawns for political parties and candidates - not thinking about our real liberty to be just free from being controlled by local overlords - when our sociopolitical climate speaks the total opposite. 3rd, the people in the series depict different forms of societies and cultures with different perspectives in life, not about people from different walks of life and cultures wanting to eliminate their national identities to establish a "new society". 4th, if Marcos really was a "fascist dictator" like what the woke Left falsely correlates him to Hitler, He would never have cared for the safety of those who were on the Avenue, he would just have ordered violent dispersals like what happened in Tiananmen Square in 1989, to keep him in power - just like how the Fire Empire brutally subjugated all other nations and even their own people to keep Emperor Ozai in power. these are my honest thoughts.

I was grade 6 when EDSA People Power happened. As people in Manila faced tanks and guns with rosaries, flowers, and prayers, the rest of the nation gathered in our own localities in prayers as moral support to those in Luzon. At that age, I learned by what I saw how the Filipino felt about the Marcoses. I’m still at awe how the Philippines is where it is now. The 180 turn is mind boggling to me. With only 2 leading characters of People Power left alive, madame is laying low and the centenarian seems to have changed the narrative about it. When/where did it change, Kirby?

Hello Mr. Kirby. I appreciate your inputs to our history. It really enriched of what I already know. May I suggest a topic for you to dive in. This is crimes committed by the US soldiers before and after ww2. This is relevant because of the possible presence of a big number of US troops on our soil. I hope you give a positive reply to this. Big thanks in advance.😊

Edsa revolution is the most beautiful bayanihan Filipinos ever did in history every one is hero of peace and soldiers of equality and democracy. 🎗 the chill it gives when you know the whole story it was actually ordinary people who made the oppression over and give freedom to the nation without violence and blood. Just unity. A real one.

Don't get me wrong, I watched the original animated series. And Fire Lord Ozai, who proclaimed himself "Phoenix King", was defeated by Avatar Aang at Oolong Forest. He then was replaced by his son Zuko, who sacrificed his life to defeat his sister Azula for the throne, and the Fire Nation entered a new era.

And now I am living in era where misinformation affect the unity that EDSA people power built. People who stood up for truth were villainized. Is the machinery of the villains are to blame? Or should we look at the ignorant people who didn’t gave a damn for people’s sacrifice before. Information is now conveniently available everywhere but we’re taking it for granted.

At every regime may mga rally na😂😂😂 at minsan marealize mong kailangan ba talagang magrally ang mga tao para mapakinggan ng gobyerno o di lang talaga natin maamin na palpak talaga ang governance sa pinas when it comes to peace and order and equal rights.

The EDSA revolution is a poor example for peace, because there were violence that did happened and those protestors and liberals did bombed the presidential palace and committed to assassinate the President and the first family. The people from EDSA were far from being peaceful, they mostly antagonized the government and the military. Instead of the EDSA revolution you could have made an example what people like Mahatma Gandhi, and President Nelson Mandela made an example of justice and peaceful nonviolent. Especially what President Nelson Mandela’s journey and his struggles why he was at Robin Island and how his time at Robinson Island had only prepared him for his come back as President of South Africa.

@@francoq2768 At that day/time there was no plan for a rally or any type of gathering. Even the uprising wasn't planned. It was a reaction to Marcos about to arrest Enrile. He went from his home in Forbes and holed up in Aguinaldo. Right across in Camp Crame, Ramos decided to join. The two security details of Enrile and Ramos knew each other. When word got out of what was about to happen, that's when people started gathering in EDSA. It wasn't planned.

I agree, though the Avatar series may have some hidden messages regarding the sociopolitical climate of this world - but Woke Marxist people have been falsely correlating it with their so-called "Social class struggle and revolution". the social climate in the Avatar series only shows people from different walks of life and different nationalities preserving their own identities and cultures. and then also falsely correlating Marcos to Hitler and Emperor Ozai who were real-time serial mass murderers.
