My Avant 528 2015, started after second time when it was - 15.

Yup, those older engines seem to do alot better with coldstart. I've now tried it with a little shot of ether starting fluid and it started way better, still sputtering for a few seconds though.

Was that warm air being blown into the intake?

Yes, with a 1400 W hot air blower.

Why'd it struggle to start so much? With all respect I didn't think -8 was that crazy cold?

I think the Kubota V1505-E4B stage V engine isn't designed for coldstart, but once it's started and warmed up (or even almost cooled down) it restarts instantly. Probably block heater would be needed, and this hot air injection seems to help too, haven't tried starter fluid yet. I had previously a 2014 Avant 635 with Kubota V1505 stage III 28 kW engine and that started no problem with all kinds of cold, maybe with -15 you'd have to try it two times max.

Kui juba käima saab, siis toimib muretult. Soojalt restart ka poolest pöördest. Nüüdseks plokisoendus ka lisatud, ~15 min eelsoendust ja läheb ühe/kahe eelsüüteküünlatsükliga. Kuuma õhu sissepuhkega veel paremini muidugi.

The coldstart issue is with the Kubota V1505-E4B Stage V motor (4-cylinder, 19 kW, 2500 rpm max, 50 l/min hydraulic oil flow), allegedly it has different camshaft compared to the older Kubota V1505 Stage 3A (4-cylinder, 28 kW, 3200 rpm max, 66 l/min) that didn't have much coldstart issues. Current Avant 635i/640i models have Kohler KSD 1403NA (3-cylinder, 19 kW, 3000 rpm max, 66 l/min) motor, I'm not sure if this one has any coldstart issues. There's also Avant 645i/650i with Kubota V1505 CR-T (turbo, 4-cylinder, 33 kW, 3200 rpm max, 75 l/min) motor - but compared to the older ones it's said to have only air intake grid heater, no glow plugs. With the 635/640 19 kW Kubota, if you can run block heater for ~15 min and have hot air intake then the startup isn't a big issue. www.avanttecno.com/global/machines/600-series
